Anna's POV

Elsa is glaring at me with tears rolling down her face.

"I finally remember what you did the night of my coronation. Your fake concern as you pulled my glove off…I should have known."

Her words are sharp and I have a hard time believing it's her saying it.

FLASH!

Hans slowly walks over to my sister standing over her with his smirk on his face. Without turning to the guards, he speaks.

"Kill her in secret. Do not let anyone see you. I have to deal with…my sister."

I struggle even more when I see Elsa flinch at his words.

"Elsa, no! It will be okay, I promise!"

Elsa doesn't react at all as Hans steps closer to her. The doors close, sealing my sister with that monster.

I'm shaken awake by Bluda and the first thing I notice is that my heart hurts. The recent events and guilt that came along with it resurface.

Elsa…

The second thing I notice…Kristoff is nowhere to be found. I realize I must have dozed off on this pile of moss? Strange. Some of the small trolls are crowded around me wide-eyed. I look at the trolls feeling slightly uneasy.

"Uhh…do I have bedhair?" I ask hesitantly.

I reach up to smooth my hair demon down as per usual, but to my surprise, I don't feel the bush on my head. Bulda chuckles awkwardly.

"Oh no, dear! Your hair is just fine! It could use a few mushrooms but to each their own."

I allow my hand to drop as I frown in confusion.

"Then what're the looks for?"

The trolls exchange a look before another troll clears his throat stepping up, it's Cliff, Kristoff's adopted dad.

"You just seemed to be having a strong nightmare, that's all." He says with a gravelly voice as he rubs the back of his head.

I smile slightly feeling a sense of fondness at the familiar action.

So that's where Kristoff gets it from…

My smile drops as I look around.

"Wait. Where is Kristoff?" I ask.

Bulda places a stone hand gently on my hands. She offers a gentle smile.

"He's talking with Grand Pabbie now."

I jump up.

"Really?! That's great! Where? Why didn't anyone wake me?" I jumble out fast.

The small trolls roll away to give me space and I guess to make sure I don't trip on them. Bulda points to the far end of the valley where a tiny path lays.

"That way."

I nod picking up my skirt as I step off the pile of moss and move briskly where she indicated.

"Thanks!" I call out behind me.

I make my way down the short path to see Kristoff standing next to Grand Pabbie who is standing on a pile non-living stone to be equal height. As I approach, I hear the end of what the wise troll was saying before I arrived.

"…it's imperative, Kristoff. The longer she takes to it the more permanent it can become. It's – Ah, Princess Anna. You have awakened."

The troll cuts himself off when he sees me and turns to give me a tired smile. Kristoff looks over surprised.

"Anna, are you feeling better now?"

I nod trying to decipher the mood between the troll and ice harvester.

"Yep! I'm feeling much better now and I'm ready to start planning how we're going to free Elsa and stop Hans! So..."

My chipper tone darkens as I turn to the troll.

"What's in that quote on quote, 'healing water' Elsa keeps drinking?"

Grand Pabbie glances at Kristoff before sighing, in doing so he looks even older than the ancient already did.

"Princess…that healing water is something that I thought I would never see again. It's dangerous and almost impossible to reverse the effects."

I frown.

"Wait, you've seen it before?"

He nods.

"Indeed. Eons ago…There was a young troll who showed great promise in medicine. However, he thought us better than humans or other living creatures. He desired to use this water he created to control the humans to serve us. He used the magic used to heal and turned it into a poison."

The troll hunches looking pained.

"When we found out, we were able to stop him before he could learn enough about the powers to accomplish this and banished him. The water was unfinished and destroyed."

He sighs.

"It seems my actions were not enough."

I frown.

"But what does it do?" I nearly cry out in confusion; "Just what is it doing to Elsa?!"

Grand Pabbie looks at me with clear sympathy in his eyes.

"You see princess, the water alters preexisting memories. It's drawn to memories with strong negative emotions and forces the victim to relive it over and over. Breaking the mind for it be rebuilt with the new memories created by whoever administers it."

Huh, this whole thing sounds kinda familiar…

I freeze as the realization hits. I whip around pointing to Grand Pabbie.

"Wait a minute! The healing water sounds similar to what you did to me!"

The troll frowns slightly with a wince.

"Anna, that water may have been derived from it, but it is nothing like my powers anymore. What I did was to save you, not to harm you. I cannot add memories, nor target negative emotions. The troll who assisted in the making of this used dark magic. Trolls should never use their powers for evil. This water forces the will of someone else to bend."

He glances at Kristoff then back to me.

"For instance…making Elsa think she is a monster."

My heart clenches. That's why she said all that in the stables Elsa is not a monster, but does she really think she is?

But wait…

"But what about me?" I ask out loud.

Kristoff steps up looking concerned.

"She's right, Anna was definitely affected by it after she drank it. But Hans never gave it to her. So why did it work?"

Grand Pabbie looks at me.

"You poured yourself the water, yes?"

I nod and he takes a deep breath.

"So you had your own fear controlling it, not Hans. Your biggest memory of fear was Hans trying to kill the queen. So, your mind twisted that memory and presented the dream as your new memory."

He pauses letting that sink in for us.

I really did that? Has Elsa been doing that since she came back to Arendelle? I'm sure Hans was probably giving each serving of it to her himself before that. So she probably only dreamed about "being chased out" until she got back…so what did she start dream after that?

"Wait, that doesn't make sense," I say.

The two look at me confused, and I swallow.

"When I snuck in to find her she had this whole headache looking thing happen and then said she remembered what happened. She was angry, at ME. But it was all wrong, I thought that stuff can only alter memories so how did she 'remember' that?"

The troll rubs his chin thinking.

"I do not know. It could be another effect of the water, or perhaps an extension of it? If she is creating new memories then this will require more work to undo. I shall look into it."

I tilt my head slightly in confusion.

"Another effect? Besides nightmares?"

Grand Pabbie sighs looking down.

"Queen Elsa has magic. Some of the temporary effects of the water would be weaker for her and others would be stronger due to her powers." He pauses to look at me; "However you do not have magic. Not to mention, from what Kristoff has told me, you drank more than the one glass the queen would drink. So the strong effects most likely shocked your body, having no natural defense to it. "

Kristoff looks solemn but his eyes widen.

"Anna's fever was pretty high and she had no idea what was real and wasn't real for a minute or two when she woke up."

The troll nods.

"For a non-magical being, that is certainly an expected response."

I straighten up thinking of that first morning of her return. I walked in to invite her down for breakfast…

"That's why Elsa was so warm when she woke up once. " I state.

Both troll and iceman look at me. I feel my brow furrows as I think.

"In fact, her whole room was icy…or at least slushy?"

My stomach twists. My hunch was looking to be more and more correct. I bet this is why she had such a bland sense of taste too. She's was suffering even before Hans came to the castle.

How just much 'healing' water did she have that first night to do that?

Grand Pabbie looks concerned.

"That is certainly troubling, but yes that is, unfortunately, a perfect example of the effects. That could mean her powers are also being affected by the water as well."

He pauses before looking at us sternly.

"With her powers growing, this water is far too dangerous for her to continue taking."

He then gestures me closer and takes my hands, staring into my eyes intently.

"Anna, she must cease her intake as soon as possible. As you know, love and fear have always been the catalyst of her powers. The stress and fear being grown thanks to the water, will only speed up the process. Her powers must not be forced into these twisted feelings Hans has started to infect her with."

His grip tightens slightly.

"Otherwise no one will survive."

Surprise, I haven't forgotten! I plan on updating every other week. I know there wasn't any Elsa in this, but she'll have her moment soon enough. Thanks for the reviews last time and for reading!
