A/N: Hi everyone, thanks for all of the kind reviews and for all of the favorites, follows and alerts to my story. I just wanted to let all of my readers know that I'll also be cross posting this to a website called hexrpg's fanfiction section. That version will be rated t and this version will remain rated mature. I chose this so that those who want to read the fic but don't want to read mature content can still read it. That site only allows for rated t fics, so if you read that version, you might have to squint at the romantic bits. Don't worry that this version will be abandoned, because this version is my pride and joy, where it's been obvious that I'm still growing as a writer. Without further adue, I give you chapter 24.

Chapter 24: Transfiguratio avem

Harry's POV

..:..

On Sunday evening, Harry, Hermione and Draco sat in a circle in the ROR. Harry and Hermione were going to use this time to practice transfiguring their body parts into and back from their animagus forms. They had decided to ask Draco to join them just in case they got stuck and needed a professor's help to reverse the process. Draco was excited to see his boyfriend trying the process that he hoped to soon begin himself.

"By the way Harry, where were you all day," asked Hermione curiosity getting the better of her.

'I was on a date with Draco. After the date, we kind of fell asleep,' wrote Harry his cheeks turning red with embarrassment.

"Oh how neat. What did you two do on the date?"

"Harry has always wanted to go to the seaside, so I took him their," said Draco nonchalantly.

Harry noticed that Hermione was smiling. He knew that it always made her happy to hear about when he got to cross something off of his list.

"Then forgive me for asking, but how are you two back so soon?"

"We used the Room of Requirement silly," said Draco. "This room really is a truly spectacular invention of the Founders. It can turn into almost anything and provide you with almost anything whilst inside of it."

Harry watched on in amusement as Hermione blushed again. It was obvious at times like this that she was a muggle-born witch.

'I can't wait to go back,' gushed Harry. 'And to top it all off, we didn't even get sunburnt. Draco just required the sun not to have the power to burn. We didn't even have to visit Professor Snape for some sunburn ointment.'

"That's great. Now do you remember the incantation and wand movement for your spell," asked Hermione back in professor mode.

'Yes Professor Granger,' wrote Harry with a cheeky smile on his lips.

"What are they," asked Hermione Harry knew that she was just being cautious and didn't want any mess-ups or miscast spells as this was a dangerous undertaking.

'Transfiguratio avem and the wand movement is a counterclockwise movement with an upwards flick at the end. I'll be casting the spell nonverbally as I don't want my scratchy voice to crack and mess up the spell.'

"But isn't that going to be considerably more difficult," asked Draco with concern.

"Yes, nonverbal magic is always more challenging to cast," said Hermione. "But Harry's right, given his hoarse voice and how little he's using it right now, to cast the spell verbally at this point would prove to be the more risky avenue."

Harry watched as Draco clasped his hands in his lap waiting for the action to start.

Hermione was the first to try and cast the spell. Harry noticed with amusement that the witch who always seemed to get things right on the first try at least wasn't always miss perfect.

On the second attempt however, Harry saw with satisfaction that the bushy-haired witch got it right and that she was luckily able to reverse the process on her own. She now had to practice turning her other arm and legs into and out of the transfiguration and to add her head, chest, face and tail etc. and she would after doing this be ready to work on the wandless casting. He was glad for his friend and hoped that he'd be ready soon as well.

Now it was Harry's turn to try.

He screwed his face up in concentration, visualizing the phoenix and it's anatomy. He pictured a left wing where his left arm was and cast the spell.

Nothing.

Again he cast and nothing happened.

On his fifth or sixth attempt he got it.

The wing looked ugly without feathers. He sincerely hoped that he could transfigure it back.

After several attempts, he got it and where only moments ago sat an ugly featherless wing now sat his left arm and it was completely intact.

"We did it," cried Hermione in excitement. Harry endured the excited hug from his best female friend hugging her back in return.

'I wish that Ron was doing this with us,' wrote Harry.

"Me too. Maybe he'll try it during our seventh year after he's broken up with that bent Brown."

'Yeah maybe. Draco are you going to ask Professor McGonagall for permission to use the book?'

"Yes after transfiguration class is over this week I'll ask."

"Good," said the bushy-haired witch.

Harry's POV

On Monday, an anxious Harry Potter made his way to the muggle hospital for his MRI scan. He had been cleared by the headmaster to leave his last class a bit early to make it their by his three o'clock appointment time.

"Yes Mr. Potter how can I help you," asked the nurse behind the reception desk.

"I need directions to the radiology department," said Harry in a raspy voice. He wished that Draco had been allowed to accompany him but due to the fact that the blond was not excused from his last class early, he couldn't come.

"Oh yes," said the lady who had pulled up his chart finding the MRI appointment time. "Down the corridor and to the left."

Harry used the levitation chair to make his way their. Once he had checked in at the check in area he moved his chair to sit beside an empty one. This test would determine whether or not he would need further radiotherapy sessions. Needless to say, it was a very important scan.

He looked around the waiting room and saw several patients and family members waiting for their turn. Harry fiddled with the bracelet that the person behind the desk had attached around his wrist, identifying him as a patient.

A few minutes later, a nurse came to get him and he followed behind. After taking his medical history, she placed an IV to administer the contrast into. He couldn't see why they just couldn't use his port.

He fiddled with the plaster over the IV and was admonished to 'stop that lest I have to start another one.'

When the lady came back for him, he accompanied her into the radiology suite where the MRI table sat. He changed into the gown and got onto the table and waited.

A few minutes later, the radiologist came into the room and asked his identifying information before explaining the procedure to him. She handed him a pair of headphones so that he could listen to music whilst undergoing the MRI. Every pediatric patient undergoing an MRI or similar test had the option to listen to music to help with their anxiety and to hopefully get a clearer image by gaining the kid's attention.

She left and the table began to go into the machine. It didn't take long for her to perform the noncontrast scan.

She came back in and injected the dye into the IV and redid the scan for a clearer image.

This took a bit longer.

Harry was relieved when the table was ejected from the machine and the radiologist came back into the room.

"Your results will be sent to your oncologist. He'll call you and let you know if further radiation treatments are necessary. Thank you for being such a cooperative patient. You are free to go. Do you need help getting back into your chair?"

Harry shook his head in the negative and got dressed once she left and back into his levitation chair.

He assumed that his healer would floo him and let him know when he would need to be back for more radiation or if he'd need any more radiation at all.

Harry's POV

On Tuesday evening before dinner, Severus found Harry taking him into a nearby classroom for privacy and told him the bad news. The tumor had shrank but not enough to discontinue radiation. He proceeded to tell him that he would have to go back for radiation this night and for the next ten days.

'Thanks for telling me. Did healer Robertson let you know this?'

"Yes. We had hoped that your tumor would have shrank more than this at this stage but alas it hasn't. We will continue your Todesgefahr and Celmosphocide treatments as usual. The healer wants you to go back for an MRI at the end of January to see how things are going."

'Isn't that a lot of exposure to radiation from so many MRI's?'

"Yes, but we also want to get an image of it along with the size etc. That's why we can't just use a magical scan. It will let us know the size but nothing else."

'I would've thought that magical healing would've made more advancements than that,' wrote Harry.

"It has made quite a lot, but cancer isn't that common in witches and wizards, perhaps that's why. See you after your radiotherapy session for more of the good stuff."

Harry's POV

Harry watched as Professor McGonagall wrote notes on the board for them to copy down on the remainder of their conjuration section. Apparently today they'd be continuing to practice but this time they'd be conjuring chairs instead of statues. Harry thought that this was a wicked idea because he could recall several times that he had seen the headmaster perform this particular brand of magic.

She proceeded to tell them about the rules of conjuration bringing up several things that Harry had written about on his transfiguration essay that they had turned in at the beginning of class.

Professor McGonagall wrote down the name of the incantation and the pronunciation of the incantation ; they got to work.

Draco's POV

On Thursday after the sixth year Slytherin and Ravenclaw students got finished with their transfiguration lesson which was the second and final lesson on conjuration Draco hung back to ask Professor McGonagall for permission to begin the animagi process.

He put his books and parchment back in his school bag, slung it on his shoulder and made his way to her desk waiting patiently for his fellow classmates to leave and for her to notice his presence.

It didn't take long.

Professor McGonagall looked up from the stack of essays that she had been about to grade and said "Yes Mr. Malfoy?"

"I was wondering if I could begin learning how to become an animagi. You told us several lessons ago that if we showed the proper aptitude for the subject (which I have) and if we were dedicated enough (which I am) that you might allow us permission to become one and I'm here to ask your permission ma'am."

"As it turns out Mr. Malfoy, the students that were borrowing the book that I loan out to those of you who ask has just been returned to me yesterday. I will loan it out to you provided that you promise to return it to me once you no longer need it."

The old professor reached into a droar of her desk and pulled out the thin book that Draco recognized from when Harry and Granger were using it and handed it to him.

"Please treat this book with care as it's a rare one."

"I will," reassured Draco.

He remembered just last night when Harry had told him that now that he and Granger had mastered the spell and had only to master it for all body parts of their species and the wandless applications that they had returned the book to the professor, and that was why Draco had decided to ask the professor today.

Draco put the book securely in his book bag and left the classroom with a bounce in his step.

Harry's POV

Harry and Draco found themselves in Severus's quarters on Friday evening. Harry and Draco talked quietly until the professor came over with a beeker of the Celmosphocide.

He injected it into Harry's port after getting a drop of blood from Harry.

He then hooked up the anti-amedic.

Draco had asked Severus if he could borrow one of his fiction books to read to Harry during his treatments. The professor having read to the boy in the past quickly agreed. Harry spent the next hour relaxing as his boyfriend read a wizarding mystery to him. It was nice Harry reflected to have someone read to you. It spoke to a part of his soul that to often got ignored. The Dursleys having read stories only to Dudley would no doubt have a stroke if they knew how well Draco, Poppy and Severus were caring for Harry during his time of need.

Once Severus had hooked up the Todesgefahr Harry began to worry about ruining the experience with his vomiting. As expected, Harry began to get sick about thirty minutes into the draft.

Draco quickly put down the book marking his spot to continue on Monday evening and handed him a pale to sick up in.

When Harry grew weak Draco held him up with a hand on his back as he continued to be sick. Harry knew that this too would pass.
