Misfit Chapter 29: "The (Slightly Stupid) Race For The Scroll!"
Huey slammed the door behind him, bright red with anger.
"Well?" June prompted, "What did they say?"
"Judging by the looks of it, I don't think it went well…?" April cringed, adjusting her cap awkwardly.
"Why of all the-UGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!" Huey kicked a book on the floor, "I cannot STAND him! Dewey claimed the stupid paper as his stupid own, I just-! Why?! WHHHHHHYYYYYYY?! We're so close to finding Louie, and Dewey's just ruining all of our chances." Huey sighed, rubbing his temple, "We need to find that scroll before they figure out something that they'll regret!"
"Yes! Thank you!" June huffed, "If we don't act soon, Dewey will tell everyone and we'll be COMPLETELY exposed."
"Why don't we just team up with Dewford and Webbigail? Then we'll be sure to find him." Violet suggested.
"No, Violet, because, like June said, they'll tell Scrooge!"
"What if they tell Scrooge? I don't get it. Wouldn't it be better if the grown-ups were on this?"
"Yeah! I second that." April said.
"NO! Are you nuts?! Scrooge is going to skin us ALIVE! How do you think he'll react if he figures out everything we were doing for the past month or so?" June hissed at her, "See, this is why I call you Airheaded Duck!"
"Hey!" April took her cap off and smacked June with it. Both of the sisters started roughhousing.
"Enough! This is a conversation that we are having, not a wrestling match!" Violet pulled June off of April, who crossed her arms and stuck her beak in the air.
"I side with Huey." June grumbled.
"I'm with Violet." April declared.
Everyone looked expectantly at May.
"Me? I don't want to choose sides…"
"Come on! You're the tiebreaker!" Violet urged.
"Um…" May started sweating, "I-I-I don't know! I choose both sides!"
"You can't choose BOTH sides!" April growled, throwing her hands in the air, clearly exasperated.
"Come on! If we team up with Dewey and Webby, then we can solve the mystery faster!" Violet told her.
"But he might tell Scrooge!" June blurted out.
"I…I think I'm with Violet and April. I mean, of course I'm worried that Scrooge might shut down our investigation, but the more people on a case, the faster it's solved."
Huey blinked and stared into space for a while, then finally spoke, "I mean, you guys do have a good point…"
June's heart skipped a beat at the thought of losing people, "What? No!" She grabbed Huey by his arm, "Come on! If they want to team up with those snobs, then they can be my guest! WE'RE going to ACTUALLY solve the mystery!" Huey yelped as he was dragged out of the room by June.
"Seriously?! The goal is to find Louie! If you split up, things will only get worse! June, it's not a competition!" April called after her.
"I don't care! I am not working with Dewey and Webby! I am NOT in my life! I will not be caught DEAD solving the mystery with them!"
"What did they ever do to you?"
"Nothing! But that doesn't mean I'm going to side with them!"
"There are no sides! We're one group!"
"Too bad! Huey and I are leaving." June snarled.
Huey shrugged just as he disappeared down the hall.
Violet took one last look at them and turned to April and May, "Come on; let's go find Webby and Dewey."
-Lena/Violet's House-
Dewey and Webby stood in front of a red house with a small garden in the front of it.
"So, are you sure Lena will help us learn more about the amulet?" Dewey turned to his friend.
"I'm sure, Lena's our best chance! She's a living shadow! There has to be at least something she can tell us." Webby replied. She smoothed out her skirt as if she wanted to look presentable, and then rang the doorbell. An older duck with a grey sweater, pink hair, and green-and-white shoes opened the door.
"Lena!" Webby exclaimed.
"Hey Pink! Oh, and you brought Bluey along, I see. So, what brings you here?" She asked, playing around with her hair.
"We were going to ask you a question."
"Okay, come in. My parents aren't home, and Violet's at your place, so that's why the house is empty." She motioned for them to follow her to a small wooden table with a bowl of cookies in front of it. The kids sat down, and Dewey stuffed a cookie into his mouth.
"What's the question?" Lena eyed Webby curiously.
Webby took out the Grimoire Du Merlock and opened it the page about the spells that could be done with the Amulet Of Supremacy, "We found a mysterious scroll of paper with strange blueprints and info about the bank that was robbed. In tiny letters, it says something about the Amulet Of Supremacy, which is an amulet used to possess people. How exactly does this happen?" Webby gave her the scroll of paper.
"Wait a minute! The yellow kid, orange kid, and purple kid already asked me the same thing! Said that they were trying to find out what happened to Louie."
Webby and Dewey exchanged skeptical glances.
"Louie? But the police dismissed his case….Louie was assumed dead…?" Webby furrowed her brow in confusion.
"They found some note indicating that Magica and Glomgold are holding him captive."
"Wait what?! They never told us that!" Dewey gawked.
"And how is Violet in on this?" Webby wondered.
"She said that she'd help them if they brought back Huey. More specifically, if June brought back Huey. She apparently has some sort of magical power she obtained from falling into a rainbow fountain or something like that, via Violet."
"But I thought that fountain lost its powers!" Webby argued.
Lena shrugged, "Magic is unpredictable. Sometimes things can look like they're drained of all magic, but they still have some left in them."
"So let me get this straight: They found out all of this stuff, and they DIDN'T tell us?!" Dewey looked like he was about to cry, "I had a chance to save my brother and THEY FLIPPING DIDN'T TELL US?!"
Webby rested a hand on his shoulder, but Dewey shook it off.
"Why would they keep this from us?"
"Look, Bluey, if it makes you feel any better, they probably thought that they were protecting you from the truth, just like you guys did with Della."
Dewey looked at his feet and mumbled, "I guess…"
"What should we start with?" Webby wondered.
"I guess you guys should start by figuring out these blueprints. If Glomgold and Magica really did capture Louie, and are using his body, then that could be the key to finding him." Lena explained. The two ducklings looked at each other determinedly and nodded.
- Later-
Dewey shut the door to his room, lying down on his bed with the scroll in his hand. He yawned, the mystery could wait.
Maybe I should take a little nap…
The duckling stiffened, noticing that there was a loose plank of wood on the floor. Donald would never leave a piece of wood lying around for children.
Dewey bent down, carefully trying to handle the wood, but as careful as he was, a small wood slinter pierced his skin, "Ow!" Dewey stepped back, holding out his hand. A drop of blood fell down onto where the piece of wood had been, seeping into the ground. Curiously, he pushed the wood aside with his good hand, revealing a small chest with velvet lining on the inside, the indention of a scroll indicated that the scroll had been there. It had already been opened.
"This must be where Huey found the scroll! Dewey realized. It took him only a minute to realize that the splinter was sinking in deeper. He gritted his teeth and pulled it out.
"Webby!" He called out.
"What's wrong? What happened to your hand?!" She gawked.
Dewey face-palmed with his good hand, "That's not the point. Look what I found!" He pointed at the chest.
"A chest!"
"Yes, obviously, Webby!" Dewey huffed, "It's where the others found the scroll."
Webby noticed that the key used to open the chest was still jammed in the keyhole, "Mark Beaks, Waddle Industries." She read the engraving on the side of the key.
"This thing must have cost a fortune! Where did June, April, May, April, Violet, or even Huey find this much money?" Dewey wondered.
Suddenly, a blur of yellow tackled Webby to the ground, and Dewey yelped in surprise.
"Give me the scroll! NOW!"
Don't forget to review, follow, and fav! :) ;D
