THE PHANTOM TWINS: Andrew and Dayla's First Day at College
8:15 AM
As the train started arriving at New York, Dayla was fast asleep in their compartment. She then felt Andrew tapping her shoulder, waking her up as he said, "Dayla. We're almost there."
Dayla groaned slightly and sat up. Stretching and smiling at her boyfriend. In his hands were a couple of trays with breakfast foods such as pancakes, fruit salad and orange juice. They had been travelling on the train for about almost two days, both of them sharing the excitement of starting at New York University.
After finishing breakfast, they heard an announcement over the speakers, "Good morning everyone. We will be stopping at Grand Central Station, New York City within the next fifteen minutes and if you look out the window on your right, you can see as we enter the city, Lady Liberty herself. Thank you and have a pleasant morning."
Dayla and Andrew looked out the window and there it was, standing tall and proud for everyone to see was the Statue of Liberty. It truly was a magnificent sight and they both looked at it in awe. A few minutes later, the train entered Grand Central Station.
After collecting their luggage and exiting the station. Andrew called for a taxi and the taxi driver asked after they placed their luggage in the boot of the car and climbed in the back seat, "Where to?"
"New York University please." Andrew asked.
"Okie dokie, no problem." The taxi driver said and began to drive through the streets of the city, heading for NYU.
The drive took about ten to twenty minutes until they finally reached New York University. They walked up to the registration tent for freshman and signed in and then joined the group of students for orientation.
"Welcome to New York University, freshman class of 2019! I am Tracy and I will be giving you tour of our campus before you head off to your dorms and meet your roommates." Tracy said, wearing the New York University t-shirt and hat.
The tour took about an hour and a half. Tracy showed them places like the cafeteria, library, study halls, and hang-outs, different buildings for the many different classes, gyms and everything else the university had to offer.
Andrew and Dayla then separated for a bit to go check into their dorms and meet their roommates. Dayla signed in and the woman gave her a key to her room as she said, "Here you go. Dayla Fenton, Dorm Room 56. And hey, your roommate is actually studying Performing Arts as well."
Dayla smiled, wondering who was going to be her roommate. She carried her stuff up to her room and then knocked on the door to see if her roommate was there. The door opened to reveal the room and inside was none other than Paulina Sanchez.
"Dayla? / Paulina? You're my roommate?" Dayla and Paulina both said at the same time and then smiled and high-fived each other.
"This is great. Not only are we at the same college and taking performing arts, but we're roommates as well." Paulina said, still smiling that she was here with a friend she knew.
"When did you get here Paulina? I didn't see you at the orientation." Dayla asked as she placed her bags on the empty bed.
"I actually got here yesterday and did an early orientation with the first lot of freshman." Paulina answered as she continued to unpack.
"You heard from Dash, Kwan and Star yet?" Dayla asked as she began to unpack.
Paulina nodded and answered, "They made it to Wisconsin yesterday. They've already settled in and done their orientation. Their classes begin in a couple of days."
She then asked, "How's Andrew? I wonder who his new roommate is."
"He's alright and I wonder too." Dayla answered. "But we'll see him tonight at the freshman party and he can tell us all about him."
Andrew checked in and headed upstairs to his room where his new roommate was. His roommate had square shaped glasses, wore a green shirt with an alien picture on it and blue jeans. On his side of the room, his desk had different computers and above his bed was several posters about aliens.
"Hi. I'm Jeffrey, astrology, maths, science and physics major. What's your name? What are you studying? Do you believe in aliens?" The guy asked as he turned and faced Andrew.
"Ummmm…I'm Andrew Knight, I'm studying art and paranormal studies and sort of?" Andrew answered unsurely, a little bit weirded out but ignored it. He couldn't fully answer the aliens' question, since he didn't want to reveal he had gone to another dimension during the summer and helped fight a bunch of alien ghosts.
"Awesome. Because they are definitely out there and someday, when I have a job at NASA as a leading scientist or any area that involves my expertise, I will prove once and for all, that we are not alone in this universe!" Jeffrey said, pumping his fists with determination.
"That's a….good goal to have." Andrew said with a smile and then began to unpack his things.
"I wonder who Dayla's roommate is. Hopefully not an alien obsessed girl." Andrew thought in his mind.
That night at the party, all the freshman were arriving to the beat of different kinds of music and performances, foods of different cultures and lots of new people starting college. Paulina and Dayla walked around and smiled as they found Andrew.
"Hey girls. Andrew greeted with a smile and hugged Dayla. He then asked, "So, who's your roommate?"
"You're looking at her." Dayla said with a smile as she gestured to Paulina.
The two girls then high fived each other once more. Paulina then asked, "So who's your roommate?"
"A guy named Jeffrey who is obsessed with proving aliens are real." Andrew answered and then pointed to Jeffrey, who was already talking to other people who believed that aliens were real.
"It could've been worse." Paulina said and Dayla nodded in agreement.
"How?" Andrew asked curious of their answer.
"It could've been someone obsessed with trying to prove that Big Foot or the Abdominal Snowman is real." Dayla answered.
Andrew nodded and for the rest of the night, the three friends enjoyed themselves at the party and sharing their excitement to start their classes in a couple of days.
