W-Wrong

"Why won't they let me see her," Guya cried, as Brandon helped her into a wheelchair near the NICU unit. "She's my baby Brandon. I want to see my baby."

He knelt down next to his wife so he was at her level…he held both of her hands in his as he spoke.

"Ellie is very sick sweetheart. They just do not want to compromise her immune system…especially because you are not in the greatest health yourself. Do you have any idea how terrified I was when I thought I was going to lose you…lose you both. Please let me take care of you. Please do not overexert yourself. Ellie and I need you."

"So do we," Gina announced, when she and Owen walked back in. Brandon wanted to talk to Gina and Owen alone and it was in that moment when Van made himself known. "It's okay. I'll stay with her," he said and Brandon said Thank you. Guya's health crisis had brought everyone so much closer.

"Why does Brandon want to talk to Owen and Gina," she asked her son.

"How would I know? He's probably just worried about you."

"Maybe," she said, not quite believing it. "Its…It's good to see you Van. I've missed you."

She was careful not to push too much because she was afraid of destroying that fragile bond of trust between them. She loved her son but she knew things were not good between them. They have not been in a long time.

"I'm sorry I missed your wedding mom. I know I should have been there."

"You should have," she admitted. In the past, she would have tried to make excuses for him but she could not do that anymore. As much as she loved Van, she loved her husband too. "Van, I know you don't believe this but I never meant to make you feel like a third wheel when you were growing up. I am not going to apologize for taking Gina and Owen in when my sister died but I am sorry that you felt like I was not doing enough for you. I did the best I could."

"Mom, I know you did…"

"Let me finish," she said. "I love you with all of my heart Van. That has never changed. What has changed is the people in my life. I know you and Brandon do not get along but do not ask me to choose because I will not. I have a husband and a daughter who mean the world to me. So do your cousins. You do too. You just have to decide what's more important to you…to continue your downward spiral or surrounding yourself with the people who love you. I will not take responsibility for your mistakes anymore. "

"Please tell me that everything is okay now," Brandon asked.

"You worry too much you know," Owen quipped. "Aunt Jane is going to be just fine. You don't ever have to worry about that again."

Gina was about to say something further when his partner walked in.

"Can I speak to you alone," she asked.

'Is it necessary," he returned. "I need to check on my wife and daughter."

"It will take a few minutes at the most," she said.

Owen and Gina held their breath as Brandon walked away with his partner.

"Are you sure this isn't going to come back to bite us all," Gina asked?

"Relax okay? The nightmare is over."

"Famous Last Words."

"What was so important," Brandon demanded.

"Are you always this testy," she shot back.

"Look, I have a very sick daughter and my wife isn't much better so if there is a point to this can we just get to it. "

"Are you aware of the fact that your wife's ex is dead?"

"Should I be?"

"I don't know…you tell me?"

"Is there a question you want to ask me …because if not, I should really be going?"

"I know what she did Brandon…you can stop lying for her."

"Damn it Dana…you never liked her…not once did you ever give her the benefit of the doubt. Stop looking for a reason to find fault with someone who is everything to me."

"She's not worth losing your job."

"My job doesn't mean a damn thing without her… If you can't just let this go…if you have to arrest someone, then go ahead…arrest me…because I will not let you railroad the woman I love…I will notlet you make a martyr out of a truly despicable man."

"Do you have any idea what you are saying…?"

"If you think I'm going to pretend to be sorry he's dead then you are wasting your time...I might be a detective but men like Dan don't deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of us..."

"Is that your final answer?"

"Damn straight it is...so go on Dana...arrest me...I just confessed to murder didn't I?"
