Okay, so trigger warnings for this chapter are a little heavy again, there is violence, blood, and sorta character death? (Like not real death but temporary death? IDK). That is the basic gist of it, please tell me in the comments if I should add more if warnings. Also if this triggers anyone enough they feel like they are skimming and missing information just ask and I will gladly put a summery in the end notes. Well anyways, as always take care of yourselves and thank you for reading.
"Are you sure about that choice, Pet? You were being so good earlier, do you really want to change that?" Deceit asked in a sickeningly sweet tone.
Virgil didn't reply but he also didn't show any signs of backing down from where he protectively blocked the open closet door. His eyes remained fixed on Deceit, ignoring the other threats in the room. No one could miss the submissive position of his tail or the way his ears folded backwards, it was obvious he didn't see himself as much of a match against the dark sides but he still didn't move.
"Rage," Deceit order, stepping back.
Rage stepped up when addressed, his intimidating presence seemingly towering over Virgil despite only a slight height difference. His hand clasped down on his shoulder, his claws slowly digging into Virgil's shoulder the longer it was there, tearing into the fabric of his hoodie and making blood seep into the dark gray fabric. The hand felt so heavy, trying to push Virgil down to his knees but Virgil kept himself as steady as he could, fighting to stand against the stronger male's force. He did his best to keep his expression natural as he locked eyes with Deceit over Rage's shoulder.
"Why don't we step upstairs unless you want to make me even more pissed off," Rage growled into his ear.
Virgil suppressed a shutter but didn't move. He could hear Roman making an angry growl behind him and Virgil was sure the creative side was probably being restrained by one of the others until they could see how things were going to play out.
"I'm not going to let you hurt them. Let them walk away without laying a hand on them and I'll continue to do whatever you all want. If you won't then I swear, I won't back down this time. After all Master, weren't you the one who taught me not to flinch?" Virgil said, his voice reflecting the icy glare he gave Deceit.
"Brat, haven't I also taught you what happens when you try to pretend to be a brave little Kitty?" Deceit hissed.
Rage's hand tightened around Virgil's shoulder and he was roughly pulled away from the door and thrown away. Virgil crashed into the end table beside the couch, the lamp on top falling and shattering against the floor. He let out a short hiss of pain as he tried to regain his barings.
"Virgil!" Roman cried.
Virgil looked up in time to see Roman racing out of the closet to come to his aid, only to have to duck out of the way of Remus's mace. A light formed in Roman's hand solidifying into his katana as he got back up and engaged in combat with his nearly equally trained twin brother. Virgil's gaze shifted over to where Deceit was grinning at the closet door where Rage was now making his way inside towards the less combat ready light sides. Roman was too busy to get back to them. They were going to get hurt. Virgil couldn't let them get hurt. He promised himself he'd protect them. He needed to protect them. They were right there. He needed to save them.
Virgil's vision tunneled as adrenaline pumped through his veins. His brain temporarily shut down, moving and acting based on a pure instinct to protect. One minute he was on the floor, clinging to the small end table fighting off pain, the next he was standing behind Rage, drops of blood splattered across the walls. Virgil let out heavy, shaky breaths as his senses returned taking in what had just happened. He had gotten up and charged Rage, managing to summon real dual swords into his hands. When he reached Rage, who had grabbed for Patton's arm, Virgil had sliced through his back in the shape of an X. Now he stood in silence at the entrance of the closet, blood dripping from his swords onto the ground while Rage knelt in front of him trying to recover from the surprise attack. Virgil sucked in a breath, knowing he couldn't back down now. He grabbed at the back of Rage's shirt, pulling him backwards so he fell onto his back, Virgil standing over his head with a sword to his now vulnerable throat.
"Don't even think about hurting them ever again," Virgil hissed, his bristled tail lashing aggressively behind him.
The moment the words left his mouth cool wood hooked around his throat and yanked him back. The harsh pressure on his throat made Virgil gasp painfully, the soft spot on his throat being crushed, cutting off is oxygen. When Virgil was dumped onto the floor he gasped and choked, a painful tightness remaining in his throat, preventing him from breathing properly. He looked up in time to see Deceit move to press his shepherd's crook against his throat again, crushing his abused throat even further. Below his collar he was sure there were bruises forming by now.
"Stay down," Deceit warned, his yellow snake eye glowing dangerously.
Virgil glanced around in a panic. Remus and Roman still had eachother distracted, Rage was starting to get up and head towards him and Deceit, he could see Greed and Vanity hiding out behind the couch just trying to stay out of the way, and he couldn't see them but he had to assume Logan and Patton were still in the closet. He was on his own right now. If he didn't get out of this before Rage got over to them, there would be no way for him to help the others get out. Despite the pain Virgil was in he had to do something fast.
"How about no?" Virgil replied, his voice quiet and gravelly from the damage he'd taken to his throat.
Virgil bucked up his hips, launching up his legs to latch around the arm holding the crook to his throat. His legs tightened around the already slightly bent elbow before yanking down as hard as he could down and to the side. Virgil had to twist his whole body to the side to drag Deceit down but he managed to make the snake-like side crash to the ground beside him. While Deceit was temporarily distracted, hissing in pain as he coddled his right arm, Virgil grabbed his swords and scrambled to his feet again. Rage continued to approach him but was distracted by Remus crashing into his side, knocking them both over.
"Are you hurt, my Dark Angel?" Roman asked, running over while he still had a second to breath before all of them would undoubtedly recover.
"Worry about yourself you idiot!" Virgil rasped out, upon seeing the blood on Roman's shirt and the bruise forming on his chin.
"Worry not my Prince, most of this isn't mine," Roman beamed. "What is mine is from only minor glancing blows."
Virgil looked back at the recovering dark sides, raising his swords into position again.
"Don't get yourself killed, okay?" Virgil whispered, the pain in his throat making him nearly inaudible.
Luckily Roman heard, a the warm loving expression Virgil had grown to love so much returning to his face
"Same goes for you Hot Topic," Roman replied with a light huffy breath as he watched the other sides moving in for another round of attacks.
Roman maneuvered himself in front of Virgil to block an attack from Remus. He pushed Remus away from Virgil again and launched into another fierce battle with his brother, leaving Virgil alone to face Rage. Virgil managed to duck away from an incoming punch and moved closer to the wall of the room as he circled to keep his eyes on Rage. Virgil's tail twitched nervously when he saw the way Rage's claws flexed, ready to rip the anxious side to threads if he got a hold of him. Virgil's grip tightened around his swords, he was the one here with literal weapons, there shouldn't be any reason to be afraid.
Virgil was forced to dodge again when Rage went for another strike. This time he narrowly avoided a direct blow to the face, Rage's fist instead striking the wall with enough force to leave a hole in the drywall. Rage recoiled, shaking is now bloodied hand in pain. Virgil backed away to put some distance between the two of them. Virgil found himself stopping when he bumped into someone.
"This definitely hasn't gone on long enough, Kitty," the person behind him hissed into his ear.
Virgil's heart jumped in his chest, his mind screaming danger. His body began to act on it's own, his instinct to survive kicking in. He turned around, his momentum powering the swing of the sword in his left hand. The blade ripped across Deceit's chest forcing his body against the wall as the next sword came plunging forward in a piercing motion.
Virgil's conscious mind returned and he was clearly able to see what he had done, feel the burning hot blood covering his right hand. Deceit's eyes were wide as he choked up the blood that was filling his left lung where Virgil had stabbed him. Virgil's hands trembled violently as both of his swords clattered loudly against the floor and took a few stumbling steps backwards. The room fell silent soon after, watching Deceit cling to his wounded chest as he sank down the wall and onto the floor, leaving a trail of blood in his wake. Virgil's heart hammered loudly in his ears as the deafening silence filled the room. Deceit was letting out a few gurgling sounds as more crimson leaked down his jaw. His skin was pale and Virgil could see the way Deceit's eyes were fighting to stay focused. Virgil had done this to him. Deceit was slowly suffering because of him. He hadn't meant to do this, he just wanted them to back off or surrender so the others could get away. Not this, he didn't want it to end like this.
A hand roughly grabbed Virgil's shoulder and threw him backwards as they rushed forward. Virgil, being already dazed and shaky, tumbled down, landing on his rear. He let out quiet tuts of pain as he looked up and saw Remus frantically doing what he could for Deceit. He ripped off his green sash hurriedly, pressing it against Deceit's wounds.
"Come on, stop this. I thought we agreed red was an ugly color," Remus whined desperately.
Deceit's hand reached up to grab Remus's wrist. Remus seemed to hesitate for a moment, his shoulder's trembling.
"J-just think happy thoughts. Like a wolf spider killing and eating her mate. Or maggots burrowing into an infected injury. Or being sucked out into the void of space, suffocating and freezing to death at the same time," Remus rambled.
Deceit's soft snort was cut off by another cough of blood.
"Do change," Deceit managed to say, his words strangled and gasspy.
"I won't," Remus promised, resting one of his bloodied hands against the human half of Deceit's face, leaving a red smear on the pale, ashy colored skin.
Seconds later Deceit's body went limp and Remus leaned forward cradling Deceit's lifeless face. There was a soft light and Remus fell forward as Deceit's physical body vanished, turning into a soft glowing mist. The mist danced around in the air for an eternal second before even that faded away leaving nothing in front of Remus but the bloodstains.
Virgil realized exactly what he had done and his arms wrapped around his torso as he began to dry heave. He had done something the dark sides hadn't even been cruel enough to do to him. All sides were created with the preexisting knowledge that they themselves were immortal as long as their host was alive and they wouldn't maintain any damage given outside of the mindscape but inside the mindscape their bodies were very much mortal, even if they did recover faster than a normal human. They knew that if they're physical body became too badly damaged they'd have to regenerate but none of them knew how it happened, how long it would take, what happened to the lost side while they were regenerated, or really any details regarding the matter. Now Virgil himself had forced Deceit to find out for himself. He didn't want this to happen. He felt like a monster. He really was just like the dark sides.
He was broken out of thought by hysterical laughter and he looked up at Remus who was still sitting with his back towards him, his head thrown upwards as he laughed like everything was some huge joke. Virgil could still hear the soft hiccups in the laughter, Remus was sobbing. He couldn't express his emotions properly so he just masked it with his usual laughter. Virgil knew how close Remus was to Deceit. Virgil's grip on his torso tightened as tears dripped down his face, his ears pressing down against the top of his head. What had he done? This wasn't what he wanted. He was a monster.
He watched Greed and Vanity move to try to calm down Remus, but both of them stopped short, too afraid to get anywhere near the unstable creative side. A large shadow fell over him. He knew it was Rage, he knew that he was going to get hit, but he couldn't move. He was too fixated on the spot where he'd just stabbed Deceit and left him to bleed out and painfully vanish. There was a dull thumping sound from above him and Rage crumbled to the floor. Virgil finally looked up to find Roman had used the hilt of his sword to knock Rage out before he could touch Virgil.
"Come on, we've gotta get out while we have the chance," Roman said.
Virgil just blinked up at him tearfully before looking back at Remus. He felt like he didn't deserve to leave. Not after what he'd just done. Roman moved to kneel down in front of him.
"Can you wrap your arms around my neck?" Roman requested.
Virgil hesitantly obliged grabbing onto Roman, mentally wincing when the blood on his hand stained Roman's already blood stained white shirt. Roman then grabbed his hips and hoisted Virgil up, guiding his legs around his hips so Virgil was holding on similar to a koala bear. Now looking over Roman's shoulder he could see Logan and Patton had left the closet to see what was going on.
"Let's get out of here," Roman said, turning to the others as he rubbed Virgil's back comfortingly.
Virgil buried his face in Roman's shoulder as they began running up the stairs. He couldn't bring himself to look at what he had done any longer.
A/N: Okay just a couple random notes. A) Just wanted to say for the record I actually love Deceit and Remus as characters and don't think either of them are evil, never have, never will. I love all of the beautiful boys. B) Okay, next update will be a few hours short of being a week after the episode was released. If I put a spoiler warning around the paragraph would anyone complain if I shared a theory of mine that literally needs me to maybe mention that video for one sentence for evidence? Because I really want to know if anyone agrees with me but when I told the only person I know who has watched Sanders Sides "Hey I have this theory about Virgil" her response was "Who is Virgil again?", sooo yeah, not the best person to talk theories with. IDK. Anyways, thank you again for reading and I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
