Connected
Dabi made his way down to the familiar lights and sounds of Tatooin Station. The place was a hub of activity no matter what time it was, be it day or night. It remained a main connection between Musutafu and some of the larger cities like Shinjuku and Hosu. He tucked his hands into the pockets of his jacket. Odd looks were thrown his way.
Caution.
Fear.
Distrust.
Even in a superhuman society, he stuck out like a sore thumb. That was why he usually stuck to the more fringe parts of town. Where rough crowds were expected and crime was at its highest.
Azure eyes surveyed the masses around him.
Not so long ago he used to be just like them. Oblivious to the horrors of the world. Untainted by the sharp sting of rage and resentment. His flesh unmarred by the scars that his quirk had left upon him.
Dabi paused as his gaze swiveled towards the television screen perched at the center of the platform.
The Hero Killer Stain has been spotted in Shibuya. A bystander claimed that they saw him in a dark alleyway before they were able to escape. Thus far no known attacks have occurred within the city however residents and Heroes alike have been warned to keep on high alert.
Stain.
That name was beginning to make rounds in the media.
Everyone was condemning him.
Heroes.
Society.
Everyone.
Even villains were uncertain of how to react to the man. Reporters often referred to him as a 'fundamentalist extremist'. A man so set in the ideology that heroes should not take money for their work, nor should they seek personal gain in from their profession.
It was something that caught his attention.
He'd seen that selfishness time and time again.
With himself and Kagome.
Their quirks weren't ones that could be utilized in the normal way. The expectations society had burdened them with had caused permanent damage to his body. Had he not intervened when he did, the same likely would've happened to Kagome as well. She'd already been in and out of the hospital when she was fifteen due to stress-induced fevers. Had Aizawa kept pushing her, she likely would've suffered massive damage from a fever that they wouldn't have been able to control.
Whether society liked it or not, Stain was the representation of all their faults. He was their failures looking them right back in the eyes.
It was difficult to accept wrongdoing when you thought you were always right.
Stain's ideology was the same to the heroes who'd placed themselves on golden pedestals.
Dabi kept his attention focused on the screen.
Whatever happened at Kagome's school today, he knew that he wanted to do something more than be some two-bit villain. He would protect her but he would also see to it that his own goals were fulfilled.
"I hear ya loud and clear." His comment was addressed to the image of Stain that'd flashed across the television.
He would wait and see where things went. Then when the time was right, he'd join the cause.
His lips curved into a vicious smirk.
"Let's give them a taste of their own medicine."
