Quinn hugged Connor tightly outside of the hospital as they stood in front of his car. She could feel her eyes filling up with tears, but she tried her best to hold them back.
"I can't believe you're leaving" She said softly looking down at the ground.
"I can't stay" He said "With my Dad and Ava, I just…"
"I get it" She nodded "Just let me know you get wherever you're going safely"
"I'm going to New York" He told her.
"Well then promise me you'll look up Rachel or Kurt and Blaine" She insisted "Even Shelby and Beth, I need to know you're not alone"
"You know I'm a two-hour flight away" He laughed brining her in for a hug "It's not like we're not going to see each other"
"It's not the same" She said shaking her head.
"I know" He nodded
"I don't think I would have gotten through this last year without you" She said "And my Mom's gone as well"
"She won't stick it out in Florida with Fran" He smirked "Besides, I'll be back for your wedding whenever that is"
"You better" She told him "I'm going to need you to walk me down the aisle"
"I'd be honored" He said giving a mock bow.
"You're an idiot you know that" She laughed shoving him playfully "You better go before I stop you"
"I'll miss you" He said seriously giving her one last hug.
Quinn felt deflated as she watched him leave. So much had changed in such a short space of time and she had no idea how to feel about it all. Her Stepfather had been murdered. Ava had been found out and had taken her own life. Her Mother had not come back from Florida. Her one constant support was Jay and Will. She had other good friends, but Will was like family and Jay was the love of her life. As much as she was hurting, she knew she was going to be ok.
It was a little after 9pm and she had just gotten off shift. She knew Jay had gone out with some friends from work and she didn't feel like going to sit home alone so she decided to head to Molly's. Gabby was working behind the bar, so she pulled up a bar stool.
"You look like you need a drink" Gabby said opening a bottle of wine "Have you been crying?"
"Connor left" she nodded "Jay's out and I didn't want to sit home alone"
"He left?" Gabby asked in disbelief "Does this require shots?"
"Wine is perfect thank you" She said taking the glass gratefully "It was just all too much for him having to go back into the hospital, I get it, I'm just going to miss him"
"Severide's got a story that'll cheer you up" Gabby said with a smirk as Kelly sat down next to her.
"What did you do now?" She asked rolling her eyes giving a small smile.
"Nothing" He shrugged "I have no idea what she's talking about"
"I seriously doubt that" She said raising an eyebrow and going to pull at his bandage "What happened to your neck?"
"Just a small burn on a call" He said pulling back.
"Come on tell me the story I need cheering up" She pouted.
"He took a girl home last night, she caught him looking in her purse. She thought he lied about being a firefighter just to rob her, threatened to call the police" Gabby said laughing "What you weren't going to tell it"
"Why the hell were you going through her purse?" She asked in disbelief.
"I couldn't remember her name" He smirked "I figured I could check her ID before she got back from the bathroom"
"You really need to stop picking up random women and have a real relationship" She told him.
"It's not for me" He shrugged "Married to the job"
"That's just not true" She told him seriously "You're one of the most caring people I know and you're a gentleman no matter how much you try to hide it"
"That man right there?" Gabby joked.
"The one and the same" She nodded with a grin.
"He's not so bad" Gabby said handing him a beer.
Quinn went to the ladies' room and by the time she got back Kelly was flirting with some red head at the end of the bar. She wasn't too worried about him she knew he would find someone eventually. She wanted him to be happy and he seemed pretty happy buying the girl at the end of the bar a drink.
'Write her name down – Q x' she text.
She watched him look down at his phone and smile. He looked over and gave her a wink.
Quinn jumped as she felt someone's arms go around her.
"You scared the life out of me Halstead" She said turning round to face Jay "I thought you were out for Kevin's birthday?"
"I was" He replied taking a seat next to her "Will told me Connor left and I figured you'd be here"
"I knew there was a reason for that detective title" She joked with a wink.
"Seriously" He said taking her hand "You should have called, are you ok?"
"I didn't want to interrupt guys night" She shrugged "I'm a little sad, he said it's only New York and we can visit but he knows as well as I do with how much we work that's hardly going to happen"
"Your brother leaving is a big thing" He said "I see those guys every day"
"Well I'm glad you came" She said leaning over to kiss him.
Quinn rolled her eyes as she watched Kelly leave with the red head from the end of the bar. Jay looked over to see what she was looking at. He raised a questioning eyebrow.
"Just Kelly being Kelly" She shrugged "I kind of want to set him up with someone"
"That's a terrible idea" He told her shaking his head "Severide's just doing his own thing"
"How is Will doing?" She asked changing the subject "I feel like I hardly see him anymore"
"Not great" He sighed "I was going to ask if it was ok if I ask him to stay with us for a while"
"First of all, you don't have to ask, he's family" she told him "And I think that's a great idea"
"Let's go home" He suggested taking her hand.
Quinn just smiled and stood up to follow him. That was a phrase she did not see herself getting tired of. She said goodbye to Gabby and they went home together.
