Hello Everyone,
I know. Long time, no update. I am becoming my own annoyance. I hate waiting for updates to a story I've invested time into. Sorry about that. Things have been crazy for the last two weeks. My mom and I bake cakes and cupcakes and the weeks after the 4th always kick our ass. Not to mention I had 4 family birthday parties last week and my parents' anniversary. Yeah, July is a big month for all of us. A little reminder for this chapter and the next. Alice is making everyone stay in character at the dance, so it may get a little confusing, but I tried to keep the nickname calling to a minimum and make it as straight forward as possible.
Here are the nicknames with their characters for a refresher. Again, Moonlight is Twilight with new names.
Emmett – Everett
Rose – Rowena
Alice – Astrid
Jasper – Jax
Bella – Bianca (even though the Shakespeare fan in me cringes a little, I love this name.)
Edward – Ember
Jake – Jericho
I also wanted to make up for my absence, so I decided to mash the four dance chapters in two and post one tonight and one tomorrow night.
I don't own any of the Twilight materials or characters. I just make them attend school dances.
P.S. – How about that Midnight Sun? I'm loving it so far. Let me hear from you about that or my story.
Chapter 27: Talking to the Real You and 28. Dancing in the Moonlight
Edward handed me my glass. "Here's your punch, Bianca." Poor guy was a little uncomfortable with Alice's nickname game, but I wasn't sure why.
"Thank you, Emby."
He rolled his eyes at me as I laughed at my own joke. "Only you can call me that, so keep it down," He laughed. "I would hate to have to hurt my best friends, but I'll do it."
"Deal," I giggle. I stick my hand out to shake on it. He grabbed my hand, shook it gently twice, and then kept it.
The D.J. switched from strictly Halloween music to the Cha-Cha Slide.
Emmett grabbed my open hand. "Come on, baby sis," he yelled, pulling me along, not realizing that Edward was holding my other. I pulled him with me, and I see the others following behind us. Rose was already in-line, laughing at her big oaf of a boyfriend who nearly tripping over a senior girl who was fixing her cowboy boots.
We settled into a line on the dance floor. Em, Rose, me, and then Edward were two rows from the front with Alice, Jasper, and Jake standing behind us. Emmett quickly taught us the steps, and aside from bumping on some lefts that were supposed to be rights, we picked it up pretty quickly. As the song died out, the DJ came over the speakers, grabbing our attention.
"Good Evvvening, Guys and Ghouls, and Happy Halloween. Welcome to the 2008-2009 Halloween Dance at Forks High School." The DJ was a petite looking woman who seemed to be in her mid to late thirties. She was wearing a white tunic top that gathered just above her middle under a corset. Her jacket was a deep red with embroidery at the cuff, where her shirt sleeves flared out from under it. She had on tight pants, heeled boots, and around her waist, she had empty holsters where knives and a gun would go. I knew almost immediately that she was dressed as Anna from the movie Van Helsing. The only thing My mom had a huge celebrity crush in Hugh Jackman and as soon as Ness and I were old enough, mom let us watch some of his movies. Her outfit was even cooler once she introduced herself.
"I'm DJ Quicksilver – don't tell your Werewolf buddies – and I'll be your guide through the golden age of monster films. The fang-tastic sophomores have arranged for a costume contest with several categories to start at 10 o'clock so make sure to sign up on the sheets on the table up here. Refreshments are being sold in the hall outside the crypt, and I hope that your night out on the village is terror-ific. I'm gonna slow it down so grab your favorite monster or ghoul and head out on the dance floor." She finished her introduction scrolled down a little on her laptop, and then pressed play.
"Come on, Swan. You're dancing," Edward said as he pulled me with him toward the center of the floor. I wasn't nearly as worried about dancing with my sneakers on, but I was still a little nervous. I had only ever danced with my dad and Papa before.
As the opening chords of Lifehouse's You and Me blare over the speakers, Edward grabbed my hand in one of his and put his other hand high on my waist.
"Do I get to stand on your feet too?" I asked as I started to giggle.
"Probably, the way you dance," he said with a snicker. I smacked his chest and fake pouted, turning my head away from him. It any last a few seconds before he pulled me closer. "What, am I wrong?"
"What, don't you sound like your mother?" I said, giggling again. He made his eyes wide and feigned offense.
"I do not."
"Okay, whatever lets you sleep at night," I teased. We continued to dance to the song, and I may have accidentally stepped on his toes once or twice. He looked down at me and seemed to be enjoying himself as we twirled slowly, but I felt that something was off.
"Everything okay? I swear, you only sound like her when you asked if you were wrong. Every other way, you're like your Dad."
"Yeah. I'm not upset about that. I know I sound like my mom sometimes. I don't know. I guess I just…I wanted…I wanted our first date to be us is all. I can't talk to you because of Alice's stupid game. And If I call you Bianca one more time…I would just rather talk to you, Bella," he finished looking away, not wanting to see my face, I guess. What in hell was I supposed to do with that? Sure, I knew this was a date, but he said the first date. As in he wanted more than one? I mean, I was okay with it, but to hear it from him was different than wishing for it. What a sweet boy!
"I won't tell her if you don't," I said, winking. "Besides, if you think if anyone besides maybe Jasper is going to stick to that all night, you're a silly, silly man."
"Yeah, I guess you're right. We could just wait for Emmett to screw it up. It's bound to happen."
I laughed and looked over at Rose and Emmett. He had his arms around her waist and was swaying her side to side to the point that they were rocking off their right foot and then their left. As we looked at them, Emmett kissed her cheek, and Rose giggled. They were so sweet. Unfortunately, I caught a glimpse of the scene behind them. The Sham Squad was pointing and whispering. It appeared that Rose was right. She wouldn't be invited back. Good riddance. We were cooler anyway.
I turned to look for Allie and Jasper. Finding them other by our seats, they were smiling shyly and swirling around, seeming very content in their own little world. A few feet away, Jake was swaying awkwardly with Jessica, another girl from our class. I made me laugh. Neither of them looked very comfortable, but I wasn't sure if it was because of the dancing or the fact that they were trying so hard not to touch.
"Well, Rose and Emmett look happy. Did you have any idea?"
"No. I guess he didn't even tell Jazz, but you right they do. Glad she has us, looks like there's no going back," Edward said, inclining his head toward the Sham Squad who were still gawking at Rose.
"Yeah, I saw that. Screw them. All they do is talk about her anyway," I said, looking up at him to find his eyes wide.
"Wow. Such language! My 108-year-old heart can't take it."
"Hahaha. Very funny." I laid my head lightly on his shoulder, worried that it may be too much. In response, he lightly tightened his arm around my lower back, pulling me closer. Naturally, as Everett incarnate, Emmett had to ruin it.
"Aww, look Row, aren't they just adorable? Excuse me, sir. What exactly are your intentions with my baby sister?" he said as he nudged Edward's other shoulder. Edward only pulled away enough to get a good angle to punch Emmett in the arm.
"Really, Em!"
"Ow! What the hell? I was just kidding," Emmett whined. He looked down at Rosalie, probably for sympathy, but it was misplaced.
"Don't look at me. You deserved that."
"What?" Emmett gapped.
"You heard me. Sorry, guys. I'll try and keep him away," Rose said, dragging him away behind her. After a few steps, she smacked the back of his head and was probably yelling about him embarrassing me. Yep, they were perfect for each other.
"So," Edward said. "Brothers… right?" He winked.
"Yeah, I'm glad that I'm a fake only child. Then I can borrow yours and give them back when I'm done. Except for Em, he's always yours."
Edward started to laugh. "Fair enough. You have Nessie, anyway. She seems to look up to you. I mean, of course, she does, she's your sister. I just mean you two seem close."
"Yeah, we are," I answered as we started swaying again. "She's definitely mommy's little girl, and I'm closer to my Dad, but I would do anything for her. But I guess that's my job as her older sister, right?"
"Yeah, but I wouldn't really know. The baby of 4, remember?"
"Right. Your job is to drive your older siblings crazy."
"Well, obviously."
"It's your two brothers, then your sister, then you, right?"
"Yeah, but I'm the best-looking one."
"I'll have to make sure to tell your siblings when I finally meet them," I said, laughing. My punishment was to be pulled closer and shook playfully from side to side. Duly-noted.
"Why tell them what they already know?" Edward asked, smirking, and I smacked him on the chest playfully.
The song changed, this time to the Monster Mash, and we all decided to dance together as a group. We laughed, jumped around, and bumped into each other.
End Note: Next up… trouble in paradise, and Mr. and Mrs. Loch. Later… Esme and Carlisle picking up the kids and some life planning.
Cha-Cha Slide – DJ Casper
You and Me – Lifehouse
