Marinette sat on her balcony, leaning over the railing as she watched the city shine. A soft wind blew her hair. It had been a year since she started high school and a year since she fell in love with Adrien.
Chat landed on her the railing with a tap. He sat balanced on the cool metal. Marinette didn't even glance in his direction. "Hello Purrincess," he attempted to garner her attention.
"Hey Chat," She didn't even blink at his words, eyes unfocused as she watched the cars pass on the highway.
"Why the long face?" he asked, leaning down towards her direction.
She let out a heavy sigh as she looked up to the stars. Her dull eyes trying to find the brightest one. "I've come to a resolution. That I'll stop."
"Stop what?" Chat asked curiously. She wasn't her usual playful self, he was worried.
"That I'll stop pursuing Adrien." Her words hit him like a brick to the face. He sat stunned blinking as she didn't elaborate.
"Wha- Adrien? W-wait I don't follow what do you mean?"
"I didn't tell you, did I?" She rested her head on her forearms, facing him. Looking into his eyes she continued, "I've been in love with Adrien Agreste since a year ago."
"Oh…" Chat's eyes dropped, staring at the ring on his finger. How easy it could be to take it off and solve everything.
"Funny how there's been no response from him after this long?" Chat didn't remember any time she had told him about her feelings.
"H-have you ever tried to indicate it to him? Or tell him?" He asked hopefully. Maybe she was just too shy to say anything.
Marinette stared out into the dark. "It's been so obvious… I always stutter my words around him. But he understands me completely and smiles. And my friends try too…" She chuckled dryly.
"What…" Chat looked at her, the sadness in her eyes only growing as she continued. Her eyes were puffy, the tip of her nose was red. She'd obviously been crying. She's been suffering alone this whole time. He squeezed his fist, jaw clenching. He had already messed up this badly. It would be better if she got over a guy like me.
"Wow, that guy is… really dense." I'm such an idiot. "You should really stop pursing him." Marinette's head whipped to look at him. She hadn't expected him to respond like that.
"Those kinds of guys are… real jerks," Chat sighed.
Marinette stood up, anger filling her face. "Take that back… You take that back!" Chat looked at her surprised. Even though he'd hurt her so much she would still stick up for him. She sighed, "No matter how dense, he isn't a jerk. He's actually really nice," She huffed. Chat couldn't help but smile at her annoyed face.
"Thank you," he smiled down at his hands, heart skipping a beat.
"Arent you supposed to say 'sorry'?" Marinette gave him a confused smile. Was this a ploy to make her laugh?
"My bad, sorry," He chuckled.
Marinette walked through school the next day. She still felt tired after last night. Her face had grown puffy from all the crying.
"Hey, Mari!" Luka came up beside her, surprising her.
"Oh, Hey Luka," she gave a weak smile, staring down at her feet.
"What's up you look like you're in low tones," Luka gave her a worried look.
"I-its nothing really," she awkwardly laughed. He could tell immediately she was lying. He grabbed her hand, pulling her to face him in the middle of the hallway.
"Marinette… please tell me what's bothering you," she stared into his eyes, heat flowing to her cheeks. "It hurts me to see you in so much pain and it hurts even more when I can't help you." Marinette bit her bottom lip. Luka was so sincere and kind.
She led him to a bench outside, explaining everything. She was surprised that she hadn't had a single tear fall. She laughed at the idea of having no tears left to cry.
"I see… so that's how it is," Luka had known for a while that she was in love with Adrien. He just wished she could see there were more fish in the sea.
Luka looked up from the ground to see Adrien headed their way. He scowled he didn't want to hurt Marinette but this was the only thing he could think of. He was going to be selfish for once.
"Marinette," she looked to him as he placed a hand on her cheek. "Please imagine I'm someone else for a bit…" He planted his lips on hers. Her eyes went wide as he held her firmly against him. She didn't even have time to kiss him back as he pulled away. Both were blushing profusely. She was stunned. They kept eye contact before Luka broke it to look at a bystander. Her face flushed more as she realized someone had seen them. Her heart dropped as she realized who it was.
