A/N: Nope, not yet… Not yet.
Chapter 29
Monica
Six years ago
"Will you please trust me for once?" Chandler said as he drove into this unfamiliar neighborhood.
I had just gotten back from work when Chandler literally raced towards me, took me by the wrist and led me to his car. He said that it's been a while since the two of us did something fun together, which was true but he literally just dragged me out. I would have loved to at least wash my face but… oh well.
We have been driving for about twenty minutes now and ten minutes into a neighborhood I have never been to before.
I don't like uncertainty. I don't like new things and new people. Having to figure out if we can trust them or put up my fake wall of 'I'm just a chef doing my thing nothing to look at here, walk away'.
"What did you mean by that? You know I trust you. I just don't like-"
"Yeah, exactly! Going to a place where people are blissfully unaware of gang related activities so that we can just be Monica and Chandler for some time. I think that sounds fun, don't you?" he asked.
Okay now if he puts it that way, I can understand, but honestly I'm still feeling a little skeptical.
The car comes to a halt at what looks like a park with swings and slides and of course the noisy children.
"Chandler this is a children's park" I said as I turned around to face him.
"Oh! So you can see" he said and leaned in to kiss me.
I kissed him back, but I wasn't in the mood to make out in a parked car like we were teenagers.
"There are children here, you honestly can't be suggesting that we hang out here?" I asked.
"Monica, just stop thinking for a while" he said.
What? Stop thinking? Have you met me? He might as well have suggested that I stopped breathing for a while and I'd still have the same expression I had on my face right now. But I followed him because that's what you do when you are in love. You trust the other's instincts no matter what your own instincts tell you.
But here's the thing, I do actually trust him and sometimes I trust him more than I trust myself, if he says that we are safe here and that we would actually have fun, I believe him.
So, I took his hand when he reached for mine, before he leaned down and kissed my forehead and walked me towards a huge tree away from the park, the kids, the parents and nannies and everything.
"Oh wow Chandler, a picnic is that what you had in mind?" I asked.
It's really sweet, he thought that we should have a picnic. I don't even remember the last time I had a picnic, maybe when I was ten and my dad had taken the whole family to the park. I remember fighting with Ross as both our parents rolled their eyes at us.
Wow, that was a painful memory, I haven't talked to Ross in forever. I miss him. He was a great older brother and he often did this 'looking after your younger sibling' thing, even though I didn't need it and I could probably kick anyone's ass even before my training and everything but I love him, so I let him. That's the one downfall of all this. Ross.
I don't get to see him, talk to him or spend time with him as much as I'd like to.
"No, we are not here for a picnic" Chandler said as he looked down at me.
What? If we weren't here for a picnic, why are we here?
"Chandler, I will not have sex with you in public" I said through my teeth it was way to bright and it was a felony. I wasn't going to break the law anymore that I already had with this Mafia business and all.
Chandler just shook his head before he led me to the tree.
"When was the last time you climbed a tree?" he asked before he started climbing the tree in front of us.
What? Climb a tree.
"I don't know right? Maybe nine? Chandler you can't be serious we can't just be climbing a tree?" I asked him, but Chandler had already reached a branch and was sitting on it.
"Yes, now come on up" he said as he looked down at me and patted at the branch beside me "You have to climb up to show you what I want us to do"
"And what is that?"
"Climb up and see it for yourself," he said.
Chandler is ridiculous. How old was he twenty-two and his big whole idea about spending time together was climbing a tree and sitting together.
"Chandler I swear if this is one of our dumb jokes-" I threatened.
"Then you get to decide what we watch for the entire month," he said.
"But I already control that!"
"Monica, just climb the damn tree," he said.
"Alright fine" I said before I started climbing.
Luckily I was still wearing my combats boots from work because trying to climb the tree in sandals would have been a total nightmare. I felt the bark digging into my skin, but I didn't mind. Chandler was clearly excited about something so I tried climbing the tree as fast as I could before I reached the branch that he was sitting on.
"Are you sure that this tree would be able to take both of our weight?" I asked.
"Just get here" he said before he moved a little to make more room for me.
I gently climbed next to him as one of his hands gripped the branch while the other rested on my hip.
"Alright, what now?" I asked.
I saw Chandler contemplate what he was going to do before he removed the arm that was around me and gripped the branch tightly.
"Now you just fall" he said before he let go and swung upside down on the branch.
"Chandler, what are you doing?"
"How long has it been since you hung upside down by a tree?"
"Um, I never did that!"
"That does not surprise me," he said as I whacked his leg. "Come on Monica, this is fun I swear"
I looked at him, this is ridiculous, isn't it? Hanging upside down from a tree? Why does he get the strangest of ideas and why do I feel myself getting trapped in them.
I secured my knees on the tree bark before I let myself drop. God this felt ridiculous. I, a twenty year old woman, am hanging upside down from a tree.
"See, I told you this was fun" Chandler said as he let his arms hang low.
Boys!
I however was very concerned about my outfit. So, I clenched my shirt around myself to make sure it didn't fall.
"Come on Monica, let loose a little" Chandler said as he put his arms behind his head.
"Oh yeah? And flash the entire park while I'm at it" I said.
That's when I saw the gear turning in his head. But he simply smiled at me and continued swinging.
"Hey, Monica. Is it me or is the tree getting a little lower?" he asked.
He was right, the ground seemed a lot nearer right now. I looked up towards the tree to look at the point where the branch fused with the trunk. But before I could pull myself up, the branch gave out and both of us fell to the ground.
I was mad, I was a little hurt, but I was mad. Chandler looked at me like he worried about me. He was concerned.
"You okay?" he asked.
"What the hell Chandler!" I yelled.
Chandler looked at me for five seconds before he started laughing.
What? I was mad and he was laughing? What the actual hell.
"It's funny!" he said and started banging his hand on the ground before he laid back on the ground.
Fine, It was funny. Two grown adults falling from a tree.
I started laughing too and laid down beside me as he circled his arms around me. what a day.
Five years ago
Since Chandler and I exchanged keys about a week ago, things have been going pretty smoothly between the two of us. With two working jobs, rather two illegal jobs and the discrepancy that comes along with them, we have managed to make sufficient time for each other.
Sometimes I would just randomly drive to his house and work from there or he would surprise me and drive to my place with some delicious sweet treats. I was happy to see him but I was even more excited about the chocolate cake he brought over last night.
I had taken the day off to regroup and concentrate on some work and stay ahead of schedule while Chandler couldn't get a holiday today so he was busy working… somewhere, and I was on my couch slogging away at my laptop and jotting down notes everywhere.
I just had lunch and cut myself a piece of cake that I occasionally took a few nibbles of it. It was too good and I couldn't get enough of it.
I looked at my wrist watch. What! It was six already. That's strange, Chandler usually came home around this time, did I not text him that I'm at my place right now?
Just then I heard my front door opening, so I looked up from the couch and there he was.
"Hey" I greeted him. But he didn't reply.
Chandler took a couple of steps and reached towards me, by the couch before he squatted down on the floor beside me and kissed me hard on the lips.
"Rough day?" I asked him.
But again, he didn't say anything he just went in for another kiss and laid on top of me. I put my laptop on the table beside the couch before I cradled his head.
"Why is it that you get to take a holiday and I had to go and work all day?" he said.
"Because I'm good at what I do, so people let me get away with a couple of holidays here and there" I said and patted him on his cheeks. "just give me a couple of minutes, I'll finish this before we get into doing… anything"
Chandler got on his knees and lifted himself off of me, my body already missing his weight on top of mine. But he didn't go too far away, instead he leaned forward and grabbed my plate of chocolate cake and took a bite, rather a very large bite.
"Hey! That's mine, go get yourself another slice! It's in the fridge" I said but Chandler just looked at me blankly before he took another huge bite of my slice.
"Chandler!"
"Your slice is tastier!" he said and did something even worse. He took the last bite and ate it.
"You're impossible!" I said and sat back down and took my laptop back on my lap angrily. I heard Chandler rummaging in the background, but I was feeling a little mad. It wasn't like Chandler had committed a grave mistake but I still felt mad.
"Here, a perfect slice for the perfect woman" Chandler said as he set the plate down.
This guy, I could already feel myself melting. So, I ignored him and put my attention on the screen in front of me. I thought that this would be the end of it, but Chandler put the piece of cake down and laid on top of me while he placed his hands on my stomach.
"Honey, I told you I have to work"
"Yeah, so you do that and I'll just hold onto you" he said as he snuggled on top of me.
"Chandler I-" I started.
"Just put your laptop on my back and you won't even know that I'm here" he said as he nuzzled into me.
Honestly, it was a little uncomfortable, but I could feel him smiling so I didn't mind. I put my head back into my laptop and continued working.
After what seemed like a couple of minutes, I closed my laptop and put it away. I looked down at my lap. Chandler was already asleep there. I nudged him but he snuggled even closer to me.
So, I shifted back so I was completely lying on the couch. I felt Chandler move a bit before he got comfortable.
I could get used to this.
Us snuggling with each other on the couch. Maybe someday when we run away together, that is if we last that long.
I put that thought away as I leaned down and placed a kiss on his head before I closed my eyes.
A/N: Alright, I know what you are thinking. The answer is yes, I was on Pinterest a while ago looking for inspiration and I happened to see this amazing fan art. I was so inspired that I poured my heart and soul and finished this chapter in like an hour. I hope you guys liked it though.
