Chapter 37
Steam began to rise up as Eren's 10 meter titan body fell. People began to hurry to the seemingly anguished teen-turned-to-titan. This made Hange sigh. It has been days since they first started their learning experience.
The four-eyed leader glanced at the blonde teenager next to her by the corner of her eyes. As of always, Annie Leonhart had this unapproachable demeanor which reminded Hange of Levi and Law but only that those two had a way of interacting others and actually interact with others.
"... I've always wondered why did you guys target Eren?" Hange began to ask as she watched Eren get fished out of his steaming titan body by Mikasa and Armin. "You said you guys were after the founder titan. Is Eren the founder titan?"
"Eren being the founder titan is impossible," Annie replied. "My superior said that it's definitely in the royal family's hands. After all, its power can only be wielded by those who got the royal bloodline."
Hange's face distorted as she remembered her comrades dying just to immobilize the Female Titan. If their goal was truly not Eren, then why? To go as far as to get to Eren to the point of almost annihilating the entire Survey Corps. Perhaps, without Law defeating Annie, the casualty could have been more than they had. Annie could have escaped and they would have to resort to different means of capturing her, even if it was in the wall, knowing what kind of person Erwin was.
"... Eren was an unknown variable to us. I received my orders to get him and he could either join us or killed..." Annie said bluntly. She already divulged everything to them, she had nothing to lose anymore except her life. "After all he plunged up the hole Reiner worked so hard to make." She could still remember the faces Bertholdt and Reiner made as they saw Eren bringing up the huge boulder.
Right, Hange thought. It didn't matter whether the Scouts lived or not when she succeeded. In the end, they'll still destroy the walls and everyone gets eaten. She suddenly felt like laughing bitterly.
"... Can I ask a question?" Annie seemed to be unsure.
"Hmmm? Sure," Hange said.
"Where did Law came from?"
"Ah?" Hange almost fell down at this unexpected question. She looked at Annie weirdly. The question she was expecting was anything but that. "... He and Luffy got adopted by Levi in the Underground City. Why do you ask?"
"Underground..." Annie mumbled. "Is he, no, are they really from there?" It wasn't just Law… Luffy as well.
Listening to Annie's mumble, Hange found herself remembering what Mikasa said, and Levi's conversation with Erwin. However the main protagonist of those conversations was Luffy not Law. She frowned.
But then again, adopting two amnesiac kids in a day is too much of a coincidence, Hange thought.
"... I assume you don't know?" Annie, eyes widening a bit, said with a bit of a surprised tone as she caught Hange's expression. "Don't you find it strange that someone like Law could defeat me so easily?"
"Easily..?" Hange was suddenly at lost.
Annie said in chagrin, "The humanity's strongest, Levi, could hardy beat me with the entire Survey Corps help and you tell me, Law could?"
"Law said you were tired," Hange said. "Which we don't doubt after all the running you did... the screaming you did."
"Exhausted but not to the point of getting beat up by a single teenager like me," Annie said. "You don't doubt him at all?"
"... You-"
Whatever Hange was going to say was interrupted by Moblit's call. "We're ready for another test!"
Annie didn't do it to cause internal fight. Annie herself knew that she wasn't that kind of person. Hange also heard what Annie was like from others and knew she had a point.
For now, Erwin... Hange calmed herself down. She almost got angry at Annie in defense to the boys who she had known since they were kids. Erwin needs to hear about this first. Just Erwin... Hange could imagine Levi quitting the Corps as soon a word of this got out and landed on his ears. Ah, ah, that overprotective runt...
Levi let out a tiny sneeze as they silently stayed on some roofs. His brows furrowed while Isabel sent him a worried look.
"Did you get sick because we're stalking someone by the roofs, Levi-bro?" she asked. "You better take medicine before it gets worst!"
"Sick? More like someone talking bad about me," Levi exclaimed. "Must have been that damned four-eyes..."
"Captain," a blonde woman arrived on their roof. "Dimo Reeves had been spotted."
Levi nodded. "Then, we go just like we have planned. Pertra, you guys know what to do."
Hearing this, the petite woman nodded and went to other members of the squad. Isabel, on the other hand, became excited. After all, action! Finally some action!
"YES! I can finally contribute," Isabel exclaimed.
This made Levi raise a brow at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Ah, it's just that Luffy and Law made such great contributions in a short period of time," Isabel said. "As their big sister, I feel like I should do better!"
"Huh..." Indeed, their brats suddenly became the recent lime light in the Corps with how much they have done.
"We should do better, Levi-bro!"
I think being Humanity's strongest soldier is the better contribution I have done, Levi wanted to point out. But instead of doing that, he sighed and said,
"Isabel, you do realize that Eld and the others are more than enough for this, right? I don't have to do a thing, nor you have to..." Kidnapping the boss and deal with the little minions around is hardly difficult. In fact, sending the entire squad felt like it was an overkill, especially against civilians...
"Ehhhh~ But Levi-bro!"
"This is why I told you to stay at the HQ..." Levi said. "You insisted to come."
Isabel pouted at that. She did insist since she thought there would be ton of action that was going to happen. "Then why are you here then... Sending out the Humanity's strongest is overkill!"
"I'm here to try out my persuasion skills."
"... Isn't that Farlan's job."
"He said I needed to practice in case he's not anywhere around me."
Isabel gaped before she started to laugh. "I bet you'd really suck at it, Levi-bro!"
Levi glared at the redhead, who laughed even harder.
Levi's Squad is considered to be the strongest in the entire Survey Corps. It is filled with Levi's handpicked soldiers, all of them having high skill in slaying titans. The said squad, sans Farlan, was tasked to take care of Eren and Historia's stalkers who were hanging around their HQ. Mind you, their HQ was far from civilization, hence those who didn't have identity of being soldiers could only have dubious intentions, which they could already guess.
As for why they didn't incapacitate them as soon as they found them or something, Erwin had warned them to use civilized ways otherwise, the people aiming for them will have something to use against them.
Civilized it is, Levi thought. I can be civilized when I want to... He wasn't really offended when people think he only knew how to fight. After all, it just meant that he was too strong in everyone's eyes.
Squad Levi was currently in Trost District after finding where the suspicious men came from.
"Let's go Isabel," Levi said. "They should be on the walls already."
Indeed they were. Levi looked as a fat man sat on the edge of the walls while his men (and woman) did their usual bickering and interaction while guarding the boss.
"Captain," the blond man among Levi's men saluted as soon as he caught sight his captain. "This is Dimo Reeves, the boss of the Reeves Company." he introduced.
"Ah... Pleasure to meet you, boss," Levi said, his face not matching what he was saying. It didn't look like he found it a 'pleasure' to meet him. "Let's get to the main point shall we?"
Ah, underestimated my smol sleep deprived brain to come up with at least two chapters… But hey, I somehow managed to cough out a lil more than 1k words.
So,I'll inform you now that I've stocked up SnK chapter and OP chapters. So I've never read the latest ones. For the former, I stopped reading back when Sasha... you know. *sigh* and as for the latter, well it was somewhere along uh... after the good guy thief (I don't remember his name...) died, so please don't expect anything from beyond those chapters...
This chapter feels like whole load of OOC kek. Thank you for the reviews btw. *cough*feelfreetosupportmethroughko-fi*cough*
