'Define Normal': Summary of Final Chapters—
Chapter 35: Divide and Conquer
Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei try to fight off the demons. During a brief respite, Kurama says their best chance at rescuing Kira is to separate into groups- one group can fight the demons while the others look for Kokuei and Kira. Yusuke and Kuwabara decide to stay and fight the demons, while a less-than-thrilled Hiei tags along with Kurama.
Hiei and Kurama jump through several portals before finding Kokuei and Kira. Kurama begins to fight Kokuei, but his plants are struggling against Kokuei's shadow powers. While Kokuei is distracted, Hiei tries to figure out how to bring Kira back to her senses. Ultimately, he decides to cut off her hand that in order to free Kira from the influence/possession of the bracelet Kokuei gave her. She comes back to her senses and sees Kurama fighting Kokuei before passing out from blood loss.
Chapter 36: No More Shadows
Yusuke and Kuwabara finally defeat the demons they're fighting and race to catch up to Kurama and Hiei.
Kurama momentarily panics when he sees Kira pass out and Kokuei hits him with a near-fatal blow. The injury triggers Kurama to transform into Yoko.
Yusuke and Kuwabara finally find their friends and decide to get Kira out of there (Hiei is indifferent to her situation and is watching the fight between Kurama and Kokuei with amusement). Kuwabara uses his jacket as a tourniquet.
The Death Plant seed Yoko implanted inside Kokuei's arm finally bursts forth from inside him, fatally wounding him. Yoko taunts Kokuei, and says Kira is finally free of him. Kokuei dies and his body is swallowed up by a shadow portal.
Yoko transforms back into Kurama. Kurama rushes over to his friends and picks up Kira and tells them that they need to get her to Botan ASAP.
Kira briefly regains consciousness and thanks her friends for coming to help her before passing out in Kurama's arms.
Chapter 37: Into the Light
Kira is sleeping in Kuwabara's room. The YYH gang is discussing what occurred in the living room in hushed voices. Hiei is absent but is standing on a tree branch outside the window.
Kurama leaves the apartment and goes outside. Hiei confronts his friend and asks why he is willing to risk so much for a human. Kurama replies that he cares deeply for her and he doesn't expect Hiei to understand. Hiei berates Kurama again before leaving.
Botan joins Kurama outside. She expresses her concern over the situation and Kira's wellbeing. She tells Kurama that Koenma has decided to continue to seal away Kira's demonic and psychic powers in hopes that it will keep her safe from future threats. Kurama realizes that as long as he's with Kira that he's a threat to her safety as well and ponders what to do.
Shizuru comes out and tells Kurama that it's time to take Kira to the hospital, but they need to think of a convincing story to explain the loss of her hand now that everything has calmed down. Kurama agrees and tells Shizuru to leave it to him.
Kira wakes up and realizes her hand is missing. Instead of being furious, she's calm but feels defeated. All of her friends tell her that she'll be all right and that she's safe. Internally, Kira talks to herself about how useful and pathetic she feels.
Epilogue: Coming Storm
(Six months later…)
George/Ogre reports disturbing events are taking place in Demon World. Powerful demons are vying for power and rumors are spreading that Raizen, on of the three Demon Lords of Makai, is on his death bed. Koenma is troubled by this development. He replies that he's been having trouble getting in touch with Hiei and that Kurama seems to want less and less to do with Spirit World and Demon World. He decides to reach out to some retired Spirit Detectives.
Kira and Kurama are attending Kira's mother's wedding reception. Kira is in physical therapy and is getting a prosthetic hand (she makes a lot of hand/arm puns and jokes now). Kira and Kurama talk about the future. Kira is tired of having this conversation and reminds Kurama that she is trying her best to forget about spirits and demons. Kira's stepbrothers, Yasuo and Nao, run in-between her and Kurama, knocking their soda on her dress so she chases after them. Kurama chuckles as he watches Kira interact with her new stepbrothers and remembers when he first met his. He resolves to give her pointers on how to handle her new blended family.
End.
A/N: And that's it for Define 'Normal'. I wish I could have found the will to write out the last 3-4 chapters, but this story was such a mess, haha.
Kira's story was originally going to be a trilogy. The third and final installment was going to take place during the tournament in Demon World. Yomi would have hired demons to kidnap Kira and whisk her away to the Demon World in order to use her as extra leverage to get Kurama to join his side. There was going to be a bit of torture, Kira was going to find out more of her father's past as a demon hunter, Kira and Yusuke were going to get into a lot of shenanigans together after finding out that they share demonic relative (Raizen), and she was going to regain her demonic powers. After the tournament, Kira is faced with the decision to stay in Demon World to help re-stablize it with Enki after the power struggle that occurred post- Raizen's death or return to the human world for good, severing her connection with her demonic powers. She decides to return to the human world with Kurama and they have a life together.
I'm glossing over it, but it was going to be a dark, dark story. Kind of glad I lost steam before I got to it because even I was getting sick of how often Kira was getting kidnapped!
Anyway, thanks for reading!
