The Last-Pt.5

Eyes burning into the smoldering lit flame located at their campsite, Sasuke contemplated how a simple rescue mission had turned so disastrous—remembering how the day had begun with Kakashi calling both him and Naruko into his office. After calling them inside, the sixth Hokage explained the incident that had happened late last night at the Hyuuga Clan. He described a foreign intruder who broke in and rendered the majority of the Hyuuga Clan unconscious or severely wounded and how the intruder kidnapped Hyuuga Hanabi.

Sasuke honestly did not care for the younger Hyuuga, but seeing Naruko's visible anger upon finding out the news, he knew he'd do anything he could just to ease her anger. Telling himself that Naruko always looked better when she was smiling or sprouting her lines from her famous talk-no-jutsu.

Sasuke was ready to take the mission when Kakashi insisted that he and Naruko, two of the strongest shinobis in the world, bring back-up with them. "Naruko is the only back-up I need." Sasuke glared down at his ex-sensei turned Hokage, not liking the presence of the others getting in his way, knowing that if it was just him and Naruko, this mission would be completed in time for him and Naruko to discuss what to have for dinner.

"Now, Sasuke-kun, despite how much you wish to have some personal lovey-dovey time with our cute Naru-chan, this is my order as the Hokage, so deal with it." Sasuke had really wanted to knock that cocky smile right off of Kakashi's face, but the man was the leader of the village, and Sasuke did hold some respect for the man. Plus, he was distracted by the fusing blonde screaming into his left ear.

"Hey! Just who are you calling back-up!? If anything, you are my back-up!" Naruko frowned and folded her arms across her chest. Sasuke found her pouting expression cute, warmth spreading across his cheeks as he didn't even notice when Sakura, Shikamaru, Hinata, and Sai entered the room. Upon learning of the mission, Shikamaru only had one thing to say,

"This mission is going to be troublesome." Cue him staring directly at Naruko fussing at Sasuke as the Uchiha just stood there like a lovesick fool. Now let's jump a little forwards in time to where Sai tracked down the missing Hyuuga to a cave, where once inside, Hinata was unable to use her Byakugan due to the lake distorting her vision for weird reasons. Only to find out from Sai that the lake itself was nothing but a genjutsu trap.

"Alright, time for me to step in! Everyone aboard the Naruko Express!" Performing a hand seal, Naruko entrapped everyone into a water sphere shape barrier, which plunged them into the depths of the water without being trapped inside a genjutsu, when blue eyes looked towards the silent Hyuuga Princess.

The Hyuuga heiress honestly looked drained, black lines forming underneath her eyes, hand steadily bawling into a fist. Obviously, the girl was angry and under a lot of stress; not only was the majority of her clan incapacitated, but her younger sister was kidnapped right before her very eyes. Sasuke watched as Naruko's tan soft hands reached out and clutched Hinata's colds one. The best-friends looked at one another as Naruko smiled and tried to lift Hinata's spirits.

"Don't worry, Hina-chan, we'll definitely save Hanabi-chan, and after beating this weird guy who dared kidnap her, we're going to bake cinnamon rolls to celebrate! So just hang in there, okay?" Naruko squeezed Hinata's hand, and Sasuke could see the raven heiress' pearly white eyes sparkle with hope, grateful for Naruko's words that did the trick of cheering her up.

Sakura was standing behind Sasuke, caught when the stoic raven glared at Naruko and Hinata's clasped hands and stifled a laugh. Sai had to make things worse by saying, "Are you two having a moment? Don't tell me that later Naruko will confess her love for Hinata, only for some ridiculous cliche villain to appear and kidnap Hinata like some meek damsel in distress, and Naruko has to go save her with this half-pint romance story ending with the two kissing on the moon?" Silence reigned over the group, everyone looking at Sai, who innocently cocked his head to the side.

"What? I firmly believe that in another universe, such actions took place." It seemed other than art, Sai somehow got into believing in the existence of parallel universes, and in such a world, Naruko and Hinata got together. Of course, no one in the group took Sai's words seriously, though Hinata loved the idea, and Sasuke-well Sasuke looked as if he was ready to murder the ex-root member. Unaware that in another universe, where Naruko was born male and went by the name Naruto, Sai's made-up story was not that far from the truth.

After defeating the gate-keeper, a giant crab that made Naruko hungry, the group stumbled upon an abandoned shinobi village. Separating to scout the area and search for clues, Naruko and Sasuke made their way to an abandoned house, creating a few clones to do her task. Naruko talked Sasuke into taking a break; the Uchiha made campfire when he saw Naruko take out a small sealing scroll. Lifted from the scroll were packages of onigiri, sandwiches, drinks, and various types of snacks.

"The first rule when traveling to unknown places, always bring tons of food to snack on!" grinned Naruko, reaching out to grab one of the onigiri and tossed it at Sasuke, who caught it with ease.

"Eat up, teme! We must stay energized if we are going to save Hanabi-chan! Here, I even brought along some of the nasty tomato juice you love so much." Naruko tossed the red can at him. Staring down at the red can, Sasuke was mentally surprised to see that Naruko could still recall his love for the drink, which she once called disgusting and felt his heart fall under the attack of strange feelings that caused his cold heart to flutter.

Oblivious to Sasuke's mental battle over his emotions, Naruko munched on an egg sandwich, crumbs getting all over her cheek as she reached out and drowned half a bottle of water. Feeling satisfied to have something in her stomach, Naruko patted her stomach, about ready to release her clones, so she could see what information they picked up when all of a sudden, Sasuke blocked her vision, his pale face right up close to hers. Naruko hated herself for feeling her cheeks heat up.

Wondering why the Uchiha was suddenly invading her personal space, Naruko watched as Sasuke's hand reached out towards her. Using his thumb, Sasuke wiped away the crumbs hanging on the corner of Naruko's mouth before taking his seat, drinking his tomato juice. Naruko was left staring into space; the heat from her cheeks had taken over her entire face as she constantly pictured Sasuke's up-close face and realized, 'Huh, how is that bastard still hot? It's totally unfair!' In her mind, a chibi Naruko threw a tantrum at this shocking fact that she had come to realize.

Wanting to sort out her feelings, Naruko left Sasuke behind and walked by herself. She contemplated her new feelings towards the teme, then again, maybe such feelings were always there, but she chose to ignore them. After all, back then, Naruko was only consumed with saving Sasuke from himself and bringing him back to her side. It may have sounded selfish, but Naruko wanted Sasuke next to her.

With him away, it felt like the other half of her soul was ripped apart from her, and Naruko hated feeling that way. Kicking a pebble on the ground, hands held behind her back, blue eyes looked ahead, and there she saw Hinata and ran over to join the girl.

"Hina-chan~!" Feeling Naruko call out to her, added with those tan slender arms wrapping around her waist, Hinata blushed a little upon seeing her best friend and smiled.

"N-Naru-chan!"

"Mmm, what's on your mind, Hime-chan?" Resting her head on the taller girl's shoulder, Naruko felt the tension in Hinata's body, eyeing at how those milky white orbs stared at her feet.

"It's just, if only I were stronger, maybe I could have saved-"

"Stop right there, Hinata! You're one hell of a strong woman, and you can not blame yourself for what happened. Don't you worry your cute little brain, because like I said, we will definitely rescue Hanabi-chan! Besides, Hanabi-chan can totally handle herself! So stop stressing, we'll get to her in time!" Feeling reassured by Naruko's encouraging words, Hinata nodded her head but blushed when she felt those soft pink lips kiss her cheek.

"I can't help myself. You're too adorable, Hime-chan!" giggled Naruko. Hinata, who was blushing all over, felt dizzy with happiness as she nuzzled her head next to Naruko's.

Sasuke had stepped out in time to see Naruko peck the Hyuuga Princess on the cheek and felt a surge of fury starting to take over him. His right eye almost bled red; sparks of lightning emitted from his left hand. He scowled at the raven-haired heiress. From afar, watching this little scene play out, stood Shikamaru, Sai, and Sakura.

'He's totally jealous,' the three blankly thought to themselves as Shikamaru wondered how on earth did Naruko manage to woo the heirs of Konoha's two most prominent clans!

When the group stumbled upon a gravesite resting underneath the city, Naruko hadn't expected the beautiful carving of the sun and moon engraved on the wall to draw her attention and cause her to black out. Before she could fall to the ground, Naruko felt a pair of strong arms catch her, faintly hearing Sakura and Hinata calling out her name before her vision turned black.

Opening her eyes again, Naruko stood on a plain of green grass when she saw a pair of children, a boy and a girl. The boy sat on the ground, watching with curious eyes as the girl standing before him summoned purple lilacs to bloom in her hands, which she weaved into a crown and placed on top of the boy's head. "This crown is proof of our promise~!" the girl happily exclaimed, two long brown locks wrapped in bandages framing either side of her pretty face; the rest of her spiky hair was strung up in a high ponytail.

"Promise?" The flustered boy with long brown hair, sitting on the ground, reached up to touch the flower crown sitting on his head.

"That no matter what happens, we'll always be together!" smiled the young girl. Rays of sunlight falling upon her caused her little figure to glow and resemble a fairy as the boy's entire body flushed red as he shyly nodded his head. Such a sweet and adorable scene somehow felt familiar to Naruko. When the boy and girl changed forms, resembling two people familiar to the blonde, she wondered why on earth she was seeing a young Madara and Hashirama?

"Remember, Ma-chan, no matter what happens, we'll always be together, okay?" grinned a young first lady Hokage, a free-spirited smile on her face which she directed at the blushing, scowling Madara as she hooked their pinkies together.

"Tch, whatever!" the scowling Madara turned his head away, yet his pinky stayed connected to Hashirama. Once again, a sense of familiarity hit Naruko, a hand clutching her aching chest as she realized what she was seeing was a past reincarnation of Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. Her blue eyes watched as the two kids transformed into the deities themselves, a young golden-haired sun goddess crouching down in front of a beautiful young raven-haired moon god.

"No matter what happens, Tsuki, this red string will lead us back to each other," vowed the goddess. A thin and delicate red string captivated Naruko's attention. Her cerulean blue eyes saw one end of the string tied around Amaterasu's pinky, dipping down in the middle to form a u-shape as the other half was tied to Tsukuyomi's pinky.

This vision was the last thing Naruko saw before her eyes reopened and saw that the sky had darkened. Turning her head towards her left, she saw a sparkling lake, the moon reflecting on the surface. Hundreds of colorful fireflies danced on the lake, in the air, and even on the beds of orchids and lily flowers that she was currently lying on and noticed that her head was resting on something hard. That was when she heard a voice call out to her.

"So, you're finally up." Pointing her eyes toward the source of the voice, Naruko saw Sasuke's face staring down at her from above and realized she was using his thigh as a pillow. The blonde immediately sat up, embarrassed by her actions, but decided to ask what happened while she was out.

Sasuke recited everything about how Shikamaru was able to detect that the ancient city had once belonged to the Ōtsutsuki clan and that they somehow traveled to the moon. After the story ended, Sasuke pulled Naruko's head back down on his thigh, ignoring the blonde when she tried to protest and said to her, "Rest. We set out tomorrow, and you are going to need your strength."

"Tch, bastard, when did you become sweet all of a sudden?" grumbled Naruko, relaxing and closing her eyes again, missing the fond look Sasuke shot her way, hand reaching out to comb through her short blonde hair as he peered towards the moon.

Naruko was resting until puppets descended on the group. Ready to hop into action, Naruko was prepared to summon her clones, when something strange happened. 'What the?! Why can't I access my chakra?' Looking towards her left wrist, Naruko saw a weird black ring had formed around it. While contemplating this, a loud explosion set off and blasted Naruko halfway across the field.

By the time she regained awareness, the blonde jinchūriki tried to contact Kurama, but her connection with the fox was blocked. A frown marred Naruko's face. After searching the area with her eyes, she noticed she got separated from the rest of the group and got to her feet, wincing at the pain she felt on the side of her head.

Naruko was ready to search for her friends when a portal appeared before her and stepping out of it was a man with pale features that reminded her of the moon. A pair of light blue eyes glowed dangerously beautiful under the moonlight as he gracefully walked up to her. "Okay, who the hell are you?!" Naruko might not be able to access her chakra, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to put up a fight.

The man stared at the battle-posed kunoichi with amusement and chuckled as he stepped closer. Completely invading Naruko's personal space, his cold, pale hand reached out and caressed the side of her face. "Finally, I get to see you with my own eyes. You are even more beautiful than I imagined." Naruko felt uncomfortable when this strange man touched her and immediately yanked her face away.

"Sorry, I tend to get carried away. I've been anxious to meet you for a very long time, Uzumaki Naruko." The beautiful man suddenly began to act bashfully. A hint of a pink hue appeared across his cheeks, eyes pointed directly at Naruko, drinking in her entire figure.

"Hey, how do you know my name!?" yelled Naruko. Goosebumps began to break out on her skin, her instincts ringing alarm bells, hearing the man chuckle yet again. Reaching out to seize her chin, the beautiful stranger angled her face directly at himself. A devilishly charming smile bloomed on his face as he bent his head forward, cool minty breath brushing against her face.

"I am your soulmate, Ōtsutsuki Tenori. It's time for you to become my wife, Uzumaki Naruko."
