Chapter 26: Arrival of Zol

It was a stormy night as a young couple was driving. However, the young man, Toshiki, realized something off about the rain. "What a minute… This is sand. It's somehow raining sand." The car was now stuck in a sand pile. "No good. Yukiko, take the wheel. I'm going to try and push us out." Yukiko nodded. However, as he got out, Toshiki realized that there was more sand than he realized, enough to make an entire pit. Soon enough the car started sinking. Toshiki and Yukiko were able to get out, but their car sank into the pit. Soon enough, they sank too.

Out of the put sprang Antlithunder, and antlion humanoid created by Shocker. "My artificial antlion pit was a great success! With my power, Japan's main roads will be torn to pieces! The chaos created will allow Shocker to gain power in this country!" He laughed. "Great Leader will be most pleased! With our mighty in place to get the Japan branch back on track and with the power I possess, we can finally make progress in this region!"

Antlithunder returned to his hideout to report his progress. He noticed the Combatmen were nervous. "What's with all this fear?," he said, "With my plan to take Japan's roads, Shocker success will be…" "It's not the plan, Commander Antlithunder," the lead Combatman clarified, "It's Great Leader's recent order. He's dispatched Colonel Zol to the Japan branch to be its Supreme Commander." Antlithunder was flabbergasted. "Colonel Zol is said to have the most true power in Shocker, other than Great Leader himself."

He and the Combatmen stood at attention as a set of boots was heard walking into the command chamber. A middle-aged man still dressed in his gestapo uniform and bearing a patch over his left eye entered. He immediately started handing out reprimands for sloppiness among Combatmen. His arrival had been picked up by the FBI, who reported it immediately to Eclair. "Colonel Zol…," she muttered, "So he's arriving from the Middle East branch. I guess Shocker's Great Leader is through playing around."

The news of roads caving in all across the Japanese mainland was quickly making the news. Naturally, the government had no idea what the true cause was, but the racing club had a pretty good idea. "This is causing all kinds of chaos along Japan," Tobei noted, "And where there's chaos with no apparent cause, you can bet Shocker is behind it somehow." Naofumi nodded, as did Ren. "We'll go inspect some of the caved in roads," Ren said, "There may be something we can pick up."

The group went out in their various vehicles to inspect the roads still open. So far there was no luck. Motoyasu took a brief break after finding nothing, not knowing he was being spied on via underground camera. Malty pulled up to him. "Nothing so far. We're meeting up at the rendezvous." Motoyasu nodded, then got back in his car. The group met up at a local restaurant. "Looks like we didn't find anything yet," Motoyasu noted. "We'll have time later," Naofumi said.

They got up and Motoyasu paid for the meal, the waiter taking note of them leaving. He picked up the centerpiece on the table, revealing it to be a hidden microphone. It turned out he was a Shocker agent, and he delivered the microphone to Colonel Zol. "We have the recording of Motoyasu Kitamura's voice." Zol nodded as he picked up a photo of Motoyasu taken with the secret camera. "Excellent. This is all I'll be needing. With this, I can infiltrate the enemy as a perceived ally. This is how I destroyed everyone who got in Shocker's way back in the Middle East. And I'll use it again to destroy the Kamen Riders!"

He got out a makeup kit and got to work, dying his hair blonde, adding extensions to tie into Motoyasu's signature ponytail, and replacing his missing eye with a prosthetic, as well as contacts and the necessary makeup base to make himself seem younger. The Combatmen were amazed at how accurate the disguise was. "Now," Zol said, practicing Motoyasu's voice, "We just need an opportunity to infiltrate."

He immediately drove along the road through a designated roadblock, attacking the police that tried to chase him. He made sure the police got a good look at his face, so that they would think Motoyasu was the one responsible, even making sure to use the disguised voice to do so. Nearby, the Motoyasu and the rest of the group was noticing a strange turn in the weather. "This looks ominous," Ren noted, "The weather report always noted a thunderstorm prior to whatever caved in the roads."

Just then, a downpour of sand occurred. "What's with all the sand?," Raphtalia asked, "It's getting in my tail fur." Naofumi grimaced. "You guys do traffic control." Motoyasu and the girls nodded. As the Riders checked out the rest of the roads, they found their Cyclones getting stuck in the sand, with Combatmen breaking out from under it. "So Shocker is behind this," Ren said. Antlithunder jumped down from a nearby hill. "You're both fools for defying Shocker!"

"Says the group that never seems to want to give up," Naofumi pointed out. He and Ren activated their Typhoons. "Henshin!" They leapt into the air, transforming into Kamen Riders 1 and 2. They quickly dispatched the Combatmen before confronting Antlithunder. The antlion monster chuckled, then caused the sand to sink beneath the two Riders. "In this pit, you won't be able to use any of your super powers! You're completely helpless!" 1 chuckled. "That's where you're wrong!" And and 2 activated the remotes on their belts, warping the Cyclones to them and using the grappling cables to pull themselves out of the antlion pit. They raced off to check on their friends.

Unfortunately, the police had arrived to arrest Motoyasu, thinking him the one who attacked them. Confident in his innocence, he agreed to go along with the investigation. "Make sure to tell Naofumi and Ren," he said to the girls. Zol was confident that his plan was working. The police wouldn't even let the racing club in, but Naofumi and Ren got a little suspicious when they learned one of the arresting officers was at the scene of the attack, even getting injured in the process.

Naofumi leapt up to where Motoyasu's cell was supposed to be. "Taking a big risk, aren't you?," Motoyasu asked. "What can I say?," Naofumi said, "We were all with you when the attack supposedly happened, so I can honestly assume you're innocent. Wouldn't you do the same if our positions were reversed?" Motoyasu chuckled. "Yeah, maybe I would. Unless someone was trying to frame you for, I dunno, raping Malty or something." "The police heard the alibi we gave you but refuse to believe it," Naofumi said, "They said they saw your face."

Motoyasu nodded. "So this is a Shocker trap." Naofumi nodded. "That's my guess. What I don't get is why they targeted you for this. I think they created a cyborg that has an identical face. Though how we're going to prove that is beyond me. For now sit tight here, we'll work on proving your innocence." Motoyasu nodded. The group returned, only to find another man with Motoyasu's face sitting there. "You're out so soon?," Malty asked. The man nodded. "A Shocker agent came for me, one with my face. The police set me free after he was caught."

"So he was trying to separate us," Rishia said, "Trying to get rid of us one at a time." The man nodded. "We can continue the investigate tomorrow. You should all go home for the time being." The girls nodded and left, as Naofumi and Ren got out a map. "Well then," Ren said, "Shall we plan out tomorrow's investigation?" Before long, the two Riders started to fall asleep. Once they were, the man, Zol in reality, exited the building. He then placed a bomb on one of the bikes. "This will take out one of the Riders for sure," Zol said.

"I wonder about that," came Ren's voice. Zol whirled around. "Oh Ren, you're up." Ren smirked. "Don't talk like you know me so well. Take a look behind you." Zol whirled around and gasped at seeing the real Motoyasu behind him. "Now that's quite the accurate disguise. You even got the ponytail right." Zol was angered. "How!?" "Eclair pulled some strings with the FBI," Ren explained, "The police were more willing to listen to them then a bunch of racing enthusiasts." Naofumi also came out. "You really should have paid more attention to the rest of the crew." He tossed Zol a small mug. On it read, "Congratulations, M&M."

"That apartment is own by both Motoyasu and Malty," Naofumi explained, "When you told all the girls to home, Malty went with them despite being home, and you didn't question it." Zol grimaced. "Looks like I don't need this disguise anymore." He revealed his true face. "So you're the infamous Colonel Zol that we heard about," Ren noted, "And here we thought were dealing with just another cyborg." "I see my reputation precedes me," Zol said, "I was brought here from the Middle East branch to help the Japan branch get back up to speed."

He immediately went on the attack. "Know that those who see my face and hear my name meet certain death!" He quickly fought off the trio before escaping. "But not necessarily immediate death. You'll be dealt with before long, but my mission as an infiltrator is now a failure. My fault I suppose for trying a tactic designed to topple armies rather than a tight-knit group of investigators. But rest assured, we will meet again." He ran off, calling in Combatmen to aid his escape. Motoyasu quickly attacked them while the two Riders continued after Zol.

Antlithunder attacked while the Riders were chasing Zol. "This time I'll be sure to be rid of your motorcycles as well!" He created a sinkhole to drag the bikes in. Ren and Naofumi quickly stood atop the bike with the bomb as it went off. "Henshin!" Using the blast wave, they leapt out of the pit, transforming into 1 and 2 at the same time. "You guys could use some real coordination in your plots," 1 noted. They quickly battled against the Combatmen before 1 leapt after Antlithunder and dragged him into his own sand dune.

The two grappled in the sand for a few rounds before Antlithunder got staggered by a hard throw. 1 leapt into the air for the finisher. "Rider Kick!" His kick sent Antlithunder down his own sand pit, where the sinking sands crushed his body to death. "You win this round, Kamen Riders!," Zol called out from his vehicle, "But now that I am here, Japan's fall to Shocker to is only a matter of time! Already I am mobilizing Centiperas for my next plan!" "We'll see before long," 1 said, "Colonel Zol, there's no way we'll let you win in this country."

To be continued…

And so Colonel Zol makes his first appearance, only for his first monster to be the twentieth overall defeated by the Kamen Riders. By the way, somehow I'm missing a review that I got a notification on in my e-mail, but can't find elsewhere. It's from a regular non-guest reviewer so I don't know how it could have disappeared. Any ideas on what happened? Read and review.
