Chapter twenty one:
Light makes it home and notices that his parents are out. He also sees that Sayu seems to be out. He wonders if their parents had taken her out to someplace or if they had gone out at different times. He looks up and heads upstairs putting his stuff down in his room. He pulls out his phone to text Sayu asking if she is doing okay. He takes his phone with him to first check their parents room. He peeks inside and notices that there is no signs of any bags. He hopes that means that they are gone again.
Yes they are the parents but they might as well be strangers for how long they've actually spent with their children.
He heads downstairs and goes into the kitchen. He places his cell on the counter before starting to make some supper for himself and Sayu. He gets the chicken coated in the mix of butter, spices and a hint of lemon juice into the oven on a pan. He washes his hands only then to check his phone. He frowns as there is no response. He decides to call Sayu wanting to know when she'll get back. He waits as it rings.
Ring.
Ring.
Ring.
It kept ringing until it went to voicemail.
Light hangs up to try again really starting to get worried. "Come on Sayu. Pick up." He pleads as he once again listens to the rings. He slightly holds his breath while waiting with the hopes that Sayu will pick up. His shoulders raise as he tenses when it once again goes to voicemail. This time he leaves a voicemail hoping it'll get her to call him back. "Hey Sayu, yes it's your big brother. I just want to make sure that you're okay. And I wanted to know what time you're coming home. Please call me so I know that you're okay. Bye." He hangs up and rushes upstairs going into Sayu's room. He looks around wondering if there is even a hint as to where she could have gone. He finds nothing making him sigh heavily. "What in the world am I going to do?" He questions before a certain raven haired male pops into his mind. He swiftly dials the number and waits for an answer.
This time there is an answer.
"Light. Is everything okay?"
"Have you seen Sayu? Is she with Watari?" Light starts a bit frantic and L can hear it very clearly in his voice.
"No. She is not here Light. I haven't seen her. I'll check with Watari. Maybe they did some cooking lessons while we were out." L heads to the kitchen and pokes his head inside pressing the phone against his shoulder. He sees that Watari is working all alone on making some food. "Watari?"
"Yes?" Watari pauses in what he is doing and turns to the raven haired male that he raised after finding him as an abandoned child.
"Have you seen Sayu today? At all?" L poses the question with Light waiting anxiously on the other end.
"I am sorry L. I am afraid that I have not seen her at all today." Watari informs him frowning a little in worry as he knows just how bad this city can be. "I can get into contact with some people and see if we can track her down."
"Hold that idea." L moves away from the kitchen and brings the phone back to his ear. "No. Watari hasn't seen her. We can use the people we know and what we have available to attempt to find her location." He offers the idea to Light who is slightly relieved that he knows someone who has given that option.
Light is still very much worried about his sister. "I might take you up on that. I'll give her a little longer. If nothing comes up then I'll call you to ask you to try to find her location."
"Alright. We'll be ready just in case. Hopefully she pops up." L wants to offer Light some comfort about this… Though with so much uncertainty with what might have happened…. It is a bit hard… "She's a strong girl. Clever too. There is a good chance that she'll pop up I think." He supposes that is the best he can do for Light without giving him too much hope. He doesn't want to say that she is for sure okay. He doesn't want to lie without knowing.
"Thank you L." Light does sound just slightly calmer after hearing those words from the other. "I am going to have to let you go so I can watch out for her calling me."
"Of course. Feel free to text me if you need to while waiting."
"I really appreciate that." Light confirms and the two say their byes before hanging up. He goes to check on the chicken which is cooking nicely. He flips through his phone a bit trying to get the worry off of his back.
L heads back to the kitchen to tell Watari the news and the older man turns to him as he enters. "Light is going to wait a little bit to see if she shows up first."
"That is understandable." Watari nods in agreement to this. "I will be ready just in case."
"Thank you."
Light finishes cooking the chicken having even texted Sayu quite a few times. He even called her a few times leaving more voicemails. He hasn't heard anything. He goes to a window where he can look outside and doesn't see any sign of her. He relents to the fact that she is missing. He quickly texts L asking for him and Watari to use what they can to try to track her down.
L messages back that they will do whatever they have to in order to find out where she is. He heads to Watari informing him then he hops onto the chair typing away on his computer. He gets messages to people who he know will help out in the search. He can hear Watari also speaking on the phone with someone. He just hopes that they find Sayu.
