As they entered Sakura City, she noticed the streets empty. Buildings and storefronts boarded up. An opposite unnatural scene of itself. This was a city filled with humans, vampires, and wolves. Excitement and danger permeated its very essence. There is no other city like it in the world. Its ability to change on a dime was legendary. From peaceful serene Sunday walks in the park, to the danger of the hunt…but tonight, A sense of emptiness hung in the air. The occupants of the city weren't afraid. She imagined them behind the reflective glass, waiting and watching. Their prey had no place to blend in or to hide among the crowds.

Samantha turned the radio down, slowed the SUV as they passed someone wearing a long wet over coat and hat. They looked like something out of a nineteen forties movie. She leaned forward, the person reached up and pulled down the brim of the hat. One of yours…Kuroko spoke, looking suspiciously at the them as they passed. Samantha's mouth barely curled into a smile, they are all mine…she said, this is my area. She gave a nod and drove on.

The city is shut down she said, turning up the radio, Billie Holiday was singing Fine and Mellow. And Samantha was matching her tone for tone, word for word. With a few choice alterations of course.

My kuroko don't love me…

she treats me so mean…

My Kuroko don't love me…

Kuroko sighed, I am not your Kuroko and I don't love you…she nodded, at least you got that right…damm vampire…Samantha's eyes glistened like the rain soak streets, letting the words flow. She looked over and winked.

Time slipped by as rain softened and slow music played, Kuroko fell into the silence, watched the wet glistening empty streets slip by. She looked up to the sky. The clouds framed by the closeness of the high rises were still rolling and rumbling ready to drown the city.

She thought of Honoka. The way her green eyes shined, her smile genuine and honest. They walked together in the soft rain, laughing hiding in the store fronts as down pours fell. A soft tear ran down her cheek when she interrupted her thoughts. It was a flash of memory, of her. So long ago. Brought on by A café passed, one they had enjoyed. The boarded up windows, empty patio reminded her of how things were now. But the memory torn from her past hurt. Uiharu, Ruiko and Mikoto Misaka sitting around a small table underneath a large canopy. Laughing as a sun showers fell around them.

Why? She whispered, why didn't you…

Why? Because this is where you are staying…that's why my silly Kuroko.

Hmmm….Kuroko looking lost, fretted her brow unsurely. What? She looked over to the driver's seat, but it was empty. Her door opened and she was there. Samantha held out her hand, my love…she said, wiggled her eyebrows. Kuroko Sharia groaned, and stepped out without taking the hand, noticing they were parked underneath a large canopy, that kept the rain away, in front of the entrance of a high rise. you'll be staying on the top floor, with fantastic views of the city and seaport. She took Kuroko's hand.. no funny business. Samantha said, walking her through the beautiful lobby, passed two receptionists, who paid little attention to them. Vampires probably? Kuroko looked at them, her training taking in all the details from the height of the lobby, to the location of tables and chairs. Even the plants. Samantha led her to the elevator and pressed the button. She sighed, did you get enough details…just in case…she said, still holding Kuroko's hand.

The elevator dinged, the doors opened, and they stepped inside. It will take less than three minutes to get to the top…Samantha took out a key, put it into a lock turned it and another terminal opened. Floor numbers from seventy five to one hundred lit up. She pressed one hundred and the doors closed. Kuroko figured Samantha would try something. but moments passed and nothing happen. Ummm are you going to….she was about to asked.

Samantha slowly turned her head, her smile almost serpentine. Eyes thinned, were you expecting a KABADON! attack, alone? here in the elevator, without any prying eyes. She sighed, rolled her head back, fine if you insist, kuroko, take me with a little force…I will try to resist but then succumb to the ferocity of your attack. Be gentle she smiled.

Whwhat! The!…you….i will…that isn't what I meant Samantha and you know it…it's just…she huffed, I am going to stake you…damn vampire. She squeezed her hand tightly around Samantha's hand. A deep blush colored Samantha's cheek, enjoying the warmth and strength of the hand tightening around hers. But it quickly disappeared. She pulled out her cell phone from her pocket. a businesslike kill expression arose.

Kuroko seeing the change, stopped squeezing. Oh, don't stop Samantha said, the information reflecting across her eyes. Her eyes thinned, her cheeks pushed up, gotcha…she whispered, give me two minutes…she spoke into the phone. And put it away.

Sorry honey, but it looks like momma has a kill or kills to make…so just a kiss before I go

She turned, stood square with Kuroko, still holding hands. She stood on the tips of her boots, closed her eyes, and puckered her mouth. Kuroko smiled the smile of a smartass. Still short I see…looking down at the short blond, with rose colored cheeks, making kissing sounds. She chuckled, and you look like a fish.

I prefer a shark and she leapt up and planted her mouth on Kuroko's mouth and kissed her strongly. It took a moment to understand what was happening. But before she could fight back, it was over. Despite the ferocity of the attack it ended with a gently smack.

I love you, Kuroko…She tilted her head like a cute little girl, her lips moist from their kiss. I will stake you bitch…she said without wiping her mouth.

I love it when you talk dirty…she said, pressing the lobby button.

Kuroko glared at the height challenged vampire, who playfully blinked her eyes. And before the elevator doors closed completely…they let go of their hands.
