Maekawa sensei contemplated the redhead next to Kaoru, and decided that his old friend Koshijirou would have been happy his daughter had such a companion. He was proud of the girl. And he couldn't help but jest at the man, pointing out the way the men admired her.
"Pity that they are too weak for her." He grunted. "Kaoru san is a free spirit and needs someone strong enough to accept that. Koshijirou didn't do a favor for her by letting her learn the sword."
"How so?" Kenshin perked up, interested. From what little he had learnt about Kamiya san, he had been a considerate man.
"She wasn't raised to be a traditional wife. I pity the day she would have to choose between the love she has for kenjutsu and her duty as a woman."
"Can't she have both?" Kenshin asked, honestly confused.
"Only if the man understands and knows the way of swordsmanship. And there are not many of us now." The old master sighed, turning his attention back to the students, leaving Kenshin to his thoughts.
