Ch 24 Together til the End

Will approached Mikey's room and to his surprise he heard laughter coming from it. Looking in the room Will saw Jack and Hector in there playing with Donnie and Mikey. Elizabeth was in there, smiling at the scene. Mikey had a smile on his face but every now and again a sort of sad look came across his face. "Well hello there," Will said, entering the room a smile on his face.

"Hi Daddy!" Hector cried out, running up to Will and hugging his waist.

"We were cheering Mikey up," Jack chimed in, climbing up on Mikey's lap and hugging his neck tight.

"And did it work?" Will asked, looking at the orange masked turtle.

"A little," came Mikey's soft response.

"Come boys its bedtime," Elizabeth said, getting to her feet.

"Aw man," the twins said, clearly disappointed. "But Mommy," Jack began.

"No buts Jack," Elizabeth said, scooping the three year old up and gently ruffling his sandy brown hair. "Bedtime."

"Ok," Jack said with a slight giggle. "Night Mikey. Night Donnie."

"Night Jack," Donnie said with a smile and a wave. "Night Hector."

"See you tomorrow," Hector called as Will carried him out of the room. Once they were gone Donnie turned back to Mikey.

"You going to be alright Mikey?" the purple masked turtle asked.

"Can you sleep with me Donnie?" Mikey asked, his voice still coming out very soft. "Please? I..I really don't wanna be alone tonight."

"Sure Mikey," Donnie said as he and his little brother climbed in Mikey's bed. Donnie put his arm around Mikey and the two tried their best to get some sleep.

Two weeks past and things were slowly improving in the Hamato household. Leo had been talking with his family about all his guilty feelings. The oldest turtle was still struggling with what he had almost done but the thoughts of suicide had gone away. Raph's plastron was healing up nicely and he was able to get out of bed and walk around. He still needed a brace but he was able to get back to training as long as he took it slowly. Mikey was having nightmares daily and Donnie had moved into his younger brother's room as Mikey couldn't sleep without someone beside him. Elizabeth had been trying to help and she had gotten advice from a psychiatrist friend of hers. But it was still hard for Mikey. Karai was also having trouble sleeping and dealing with her father's death. Yoshi and Shen tried to help the dark headed girl and Karai was slowly getting back to normal. Shen's side had healed up nicely although she would have a permanent scar. Yoshi's back had also healed and he was proceeding to get back to training with his sons, hoping the act would bring back some sense of normalcy. Casey's father and sister had returned and the dark headed teen was struggling with what had occurred. He knew his father wouldn't approve of his vigilantism but Casey also knew his father deserved to know that his mother's killer had been brought to justice. Casey had been discussing this with April and the pair had come up with a plan. They told Casey's father that the police had taken down Hun and his men and that Hun had gone down in a standoff with them. They also said that Casey had fallen off his skateboard and broken his arm that way and that April's father had taken him to the hospital. Casey's father seamed to accept the explanation and had dropped the subject. But Casey wasn't allowed to leave his apartment until the cast came off unless it was to go to school. But April kept him updated with what was happening with the turtles. On this particular day Karai was sitting in her room, thinking about her father. "Damn it why the Hell do I keep doing this to myself?" she muttered, sitting up in bed with a grunt. Just then there was a soft tap at her door. Moments later Mikey stuck his head in.

"Hey Karai," the youngest turtle said softly. "Can I talk to you?"

"Sure Mikey," Karai said with a smile. "Come on in." Mikey entered the room and sat on Karai's bed. "What's up Mikey?" Karai asked.

"Are..are you still having nightmares?" Mikey asked, deciding to get right to the point.

"Why do you ask?" Karai wondered.

"Aunt Elizabeth gave me these to read," Mikey said, holding out some material that Elizabeth had gotten from her psychiatrist friend. "They've been helping me deal with all this stuff," Mikey said. "They'll probably help you to if you want to read them."

"Thanks Mikey," Karai said, taking the material.

"You know," Mikey said, after a minute of silence. "If you ever wanna talk I'm a pretty good listener. Plus me and you are kind of dealing with the same stuff. Maybe we can like help each other and stuff."

"I'd like that," Karai said with another smile. "Thanks Mikey."

"Anytime Karai," Mikey said with a smile of his own. Yoshi was watching from the doorway and the wise old rat smiled as he walked away. Yoshi walked to Raph's room and to his surprise he heard Raph and Leo talking.

"Thanks Raph for listening to me," Leo was saying. "I know you don't exactly like all this emotional stuff."

"Yeah that's true," Raph said. "But if it helps ya Leo I'll do it. Does it help?"

"Yeah it does," Leo admitted. "Plus I've been talking with Mom and Uncle Will. They've really been helping me. And me and Father have made up so there's that too."

"I'm glad to hear it big brother," Raph said as he pulled Leo into a hug. Yoshi once again smiled as he walked away from his second oldest son's room. He knew that everything was handled and his sons would be alright.

A month past and things were almost back to normal in the Hamato family. Leo had resumed his role as leader and he and his brothers had gone back to patrolling. Raph's plastron had healed and his and Leo's relationship had greatly improved. Mikey and Karai had been talking almost daily and the two had had very little nightmares as of late. Donnie had moved back into his room at Mikey's instance. Shen and Yoshi's relationship was back to normal and the couple had gone back to their normal duties. On this particular day they were watching their sons train. April and Casey were there as well. Casey's cast had come off his arm and he was allowed to leave his apartment. As Shen and Yoshi watched the training session they had smiles on their faces. They knew their sons still had some work to do but they would be just fine. The husband and wife put their arms around each other, grateful for the peace and looking forward to their family's future.
