Seraphine Devereaux, 18

District 1 Female

The rain seemed to have stopped, which was a huge relief. I knew it wasn't a top priority, but I still hated the weather ruining my hair. I brushed my fingers through it to keep it clean, and then strapped my backpack on again. It was hunting time.

I made my way through the thick undergrowth, being as silent as I could possibly be. I gripped a sai in each hand, ready to attack anything that came my way.

I heard splashing from up ahead and ducked behind a tree. The noise continued and I carefully peeked my head out from behind the tree. Rudi, the boy from 9, was filling a water bottle at the river.

Carefully, I began to approach him. My feet were silent on the ground. As I stood over him, about to plunge my weapon into the back of his neck, he whipped around with his sword. Only my training enabled me to barely block it with my sais.

He slashed at my leg and I dodged, stabbing at his throat. The tip of the blade pressed in and he grunted, jerking away. A bit of blood dribbled down his neck. He swung a punch at my face.

We stumbled into the river, trading blows back and forth. Rudi was unskilled, but he was a ferocious fighter. Suddenly, my foot slipped into a crack between two rocks and I stumbled backwards.

Rudi slashed his sword across my stomach and I groaned in pain as the feeling rushed through my body. Rudi drew his sword back to deliver the final blow and I lunged forward, sinking my sais into his chest.

I pushed him back and he collapsed into the water with a final grunt of pain. After a few moments, his cannon fired. I clutched a hand to my stomach and reached for my sais, but then something hard slammed into the back of my skull.

Christa Hewey, 12

District 9 Female

I stared in shock as Seraphine screamed. The rock I had thrown at the back of her head had hit its mark perfectly. She fell forward onto her hands and knees and I rushed forward, abandoning my small pack on the shore.

I grabbed two rocks from the riverbed and threw one of them, nailing Seraphine in the spine. She growled in pain and spun around, clutching her stomach with one hand, a sai in the other.

Seraphine slashed at me, cutting through my sleeve and tearing through my skin. I whimpered, but didn't hesitate in slamming a rock into her nose. Seraphine screamed, dropping her sai to clutch her now-broken nose.

Still gripping the bloody rock, I slammed it into her face again. Seraphine crumpled to her knees, scrabbling for her weapon. I bashed the rock into her temple.

Quickly, I began to slam the rock into her face until she went limp, and then stepped back, trying not to look too closely at my work. After a few minutes, her cannon fired and I rolled her over to take her pack.

I claimed Rudi's as well, and collected both of their weapons before returning to my pack on the shore. Then I made my way back to the steep beach path, clutching my injured arm.

Back in my little cave, I looked out over the ocean and let myself think. I'd killed someone. A Career. I'd killed a Career. The whole event felt surreal. A soft ringing noise reached my ears and crawled out of the cave.

A sponsor package was floating down towards me, and I snatched it out of the air. Inside, a white box contained a needle and thread, a bandage, and a medical cream.

"Thanks Max," I said, and got to work on stitching up my wound.

Cloelia Ferro, 18

District 2 Female

Hiro crouched over me, wrapping my arm as the evening light faded away. It had been a dull day for us with no kills, but two cannons had fired early. I was definitely curious to see who it was.

Hiro had been tending to my wounds, and to Wavecrest's as well, since it seemed to me that Kalmin had a fear of blood. The second he returned to us, bloodied from our fight with Rudi, he'd raced into the bushes to panic and vomit.

The Capitol anthem began to play and we paused in our tasks to look at the sky. Seraphine's face was the first to appear, followed by Rudi. Wavecrest snorted.

"Serves them right," she growled. Hiro turned to Wavecrest and furrowed his brow. I tugged on his sleeve and he turned back to me.

"We have to do something," I whispered. Hiro bent down by my arm and pretended to fiddle around with my bandage.

"About Wavecrest?" he murmured.

"Yes." Hiro nodded solemnly.

"It's a plan."

Author's Note

So... was anyone expecting these deaths? I've had them planned for a while, and they were fun to write. I'm sorry if it didn't go down the way you wanted, but I just couldn't kill Christa. I love her too much.

What do you think of Cloelia and Hiro's plan? Will it work? Let me know in a review!

Happy Hunger Games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!

- Fiona

Eulogies

12th: Rudi Carlson - Killed by Seraphine Devereaux (stabbed in the chest with twin sais)

Rudi was a villain through and through, and so fun to have around. I loved writing him, and he'll be sorely missed. James, thank you for sending your boy in. He was a delight to have.

11th: Seraphine Devereaux - Killed by Christa Hewey (head bashed in with a rock)

Seraphine was a fun tribute, and was well-trained, but Rudi was a formidable opponent for her. And unfortunately, her injury meant she couldn't fight Christa off. Andi, thanks for submitting her, and if you're still reading, I'm sorry I killed your girl.
