Chapter 49: It's Time (Reba POV)

The next three weeks or so passed by with everyone on pins and needles. We didn't know if we'd made a mistake in our plan with Major and Clay, but no one had made a move. We had even bought a small house in Dingle and backdated it by about 29 years. It looked like Kaylee had purchased this home right after she'd had Chibs. Keith had called Clay and let him know the address of the house and assured him we were all on our way to Belfast. I was almost 37 weeks pregnant and I was tired of it. It was the morning of Halloween and I was already excited to get to go to sleep. We were going to go into the doctor in a couple of days and pick an induction date. It was getting to dangerous for me to keep carrying the twins and we knew they were both extremely healthy.

I was walking around outside and suddenly felt a trickle of water down my legs. I sat down on the hay stack I was beside and started breathing and waiting for a contraction. Sure enough, they started coming on stronger than they had in the weeks leading up to this moment. I was sure I'd been in labor since last night, but I was in so much pain from the twins kicking me, I didn't think much of it. Realizing I was definitely in active labor though, I began waddling back towards the house, stopping along the way whenever a contraction hit.

Jax was the first person I encountered as he came outside to smoke. Looking at me curled in on myself Jax asked, "Reba, are you okay?"

Taking a few deep breaths I tell him, "I'm fine. Just the twins are coming."

Jax drops his pack of cigarettes and moves to help me stand up. He opens the front door and screams, "Reba's in labor!"

Lots of footsteps coming running down the stairs as everyone starts scrambling to set up the living room for me. I shake my head and say, "Outside."

Happy looks at me like I'm silly as Gemma hits him over the head and says, "You heard the woman. Get the birthing pool outside. It'll be easier to get rid of anyway."

Happy and Kozik move to bring the pool outside as Ravi says, "I'm calling Tig. Of course he'd want to run to town to pick up candy for tonight."

Laughing at my fiancée's expense I say, "Yeah. Tell him to speed back here as I am having these kids tonight." A particularly rough contraction hits me and I scream out in pain. Rewording myself I say, "Tell him I said get here now."

Ravi nods before kissing me on the forehead and dialing Tig's number. Wendy comes over and helps me go to the bathroom to change into my bikini top and to slip a cover on. We weren't going to worry about the bottoms too much since I wouldn't need them, but I wanted to be covered up walking to the pool. My top was emerald green and it unclipped in the front so it would be easier for skin to skin with the twins. Gemma, Kaylee and Ravi had convinced me to get a midwife to come out to Kaylee's place so that way if anything started happening I would have a doctor with me. It was just a precaution since I was high risk with twins. I still was going to go through with my home water birth though.

Wendy helped me put my cover over my head since the contractions were hurting me as badly as they were. She glanced down at my legs before asking, "Do you want to shave or no?"

I shook my head at her and said, "Haha. I'm going to go with no there. I don't want to. I don't see the point. I'm giving birth."

Wendy laughed along with me as she said, "Girl, I don't blame you. I didn't see the point in shaving with Abel either. It's just dumb."

Smiling at Wendy softly I say, "Like I've got mad respect for people who do shave when they are pregnant, I've just never been a girly girl though."

Wendy nodded at me and then opened the bathroom door and was met by Chibs who was going to help me walk to the birthing pool in the back yard. I was just excited the water was going to be warm. Maybe it would help ease some of the pain I was having. Chibs helped me step into the pool then everyone turned around except for Kaylee, Gemma and Wendy. Wendy held my hips so I didn't fall as I took off the bathing suit cover up and sat down in the warm water. When I was situated and you couldn't see anything because of my belly, the boys turned back around. Kozik, Nero, Keith and Jax were all going to stay inside the house while I gave birth.

Ravi came to stand beside me on the outside of the pool and placed a kiss against my forehead. He whispered, "Your mum would be so proud of you, darling."

I let a few tears fall in remembrance of my mum as Chibs comes up on my other side and says, "I love ye, lass. Ye've got this. I'm not going anywhere and Tig'll be here soon."

Happy stood behind me and said, "Reba, do you want me to video chat Bobby?"

I nod my head through the tears and Happy dials my Uncle Bobby's phone number. He talks to him a few minutes before putting the phone in front of my face. I smile at Uncle Bobby as I ask, "What time is it over there?"

Uncle Bobby smiles softly at me as he says, "Around 3:30am. What about you?"

A contraction hits and I wince. After a few minutes I'm able to tell him, "11:30am."

"How are you doing, Little McEntire?"

Laughing at his nickname for me I say, "Just fine. Waiting on Tig to get here."

"Where is Tig at and do I need to fly to Ireland to beat him?"

"No Uncle Bobby. It's fine. He'll be here soon. I'm just ready for these babies to come out. It's so painful."

Smiling through the camera he says, "It's okay little one. Your mama is there with you."

I scream with a contraction as I spot the curly hair of my fiancée running out the back door and stripping down to his boxers to get in behind me. He takes the phone from me so I don't drop it into the water and holds one of my hands. I squeeze his hand tightly as I grit my teeth. I feel Tig kiss the side of my head as he whispers, "You're doing great baby. I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere."

I feel another contraction and Gemma says, "Okay, baby girl. It's time to push."

Tig hands the phone back off to Happy so he can hold my other hand as I know it's going to hurt worse pushing. I hear Chibs taking pictures for us so we don't forget this moment. The next contraction that hits I start pushing. I hold it for ten seconds then breathe. A few more moments pass and I'm pushing again. On the third push, I feel the baby slide out of me. Gemma pulls the baby above the water and the baby starts crying. I feel the tears slip out of my eyes as Gemma says, "Alec is here."

Tig kisses my head then leans up and gets to cut Alec's cord. Gemma places Alec over top of my bathing suit. I kiss Alec's black curly hair. He's got my hair color with his dad's curls. I look up at Tig who also has tears in his eyes. He kisses my head again and I feel the next contraction. I hold Alec to my chest as Tig wraps his arms around the two of us to help me support Alec. I push as the contraction hits and I immediately felt Skye coming out. Gemma pulled her up, and Skye's cries, though quieter than Alec's, still surrounded us in the yard. Gemma hands her up to me and lets me cut her cord. Tig helps me unbuckle my bathing suit top and we place each twin on opposite sides of my chest. I kiss Skye's head as I let the tears stream. Skye's got the dark brown hair of her dad, but the waves of my hair. I deliver the placentas of both babies and then they quickly settle down as they both decide to latch onto a breast to drink milk. I smile at Tig with watery eyes and say, "They've both got your appetite."

Everyone around us laughs lightly and I just enjoy the feeling of my little family. The twins unlatch and Gemma moves to take Alec while Kaylee grabs Skye. They come back a few minutes later and Gemma says, "Alec weighs 7 lbs 2 oz and Skye weighs 6 lbs 10 oz. They are both healthy and they are both 18 inches long."

Tig helps me up out of the pool and helps me slip my cover back on. I feel okay from the delivery and I want to go get cleaned up and settled inside so the others can come down and meet the twins. He helps me walk to the downstairs bathroom and steps into the shower behind me. We shower as quickly as we can and I pull on a pair of sweat pants and one of Tig's shirts. He hugs me gently in the bathroom before we walk out to go get our babies from their godfathers. Sure enough, as soon as we sit down on the couch, Chibs hands Skye to me while Happy hands Alec to Tig. I smile at my kids and can't believe I carried them so long and then delivered them with no medical intervention.

Chibs smiles at me and says, "Lass, ye did wonderfully. I'm very proud of ye. Bobby said he was too. He had to get off the phone though because Clay wants them there early."

I nod my head as I say, "That's okay. Why don't you go summon Kozik, Nero, Keith and Jax for me so they can come meet them?"

Chibs walks off and I look at Ravi before asking, "Do you want to hold one of your grandchildren, dad?"

He smiles at me and nods his head. I hand him Skye and Tig hands Alec over to Kaylee since she was going to be the closest thing they had to a grandmum. I hear four sets of footsteps come downstairs and Jax comes over to me and give me an easy hug. He says, "Congratulations. I'm happy for you guys."

He moves to kiss Wendy and Abel holds his hands out to his mom. Abel spots me on the couch and then he reaches out his hands for me. I smile softly at Wendy who looks concerned and say, "I'm really fine. I'm okay to hold him."

When Abel's in my arms he moves to sit beside me and grins his little baby smile at me. He touches my belly and looking confused asks, "Ba-by?"

Jax and Wendy trade an excited look and then move to kiss Abel as that was his first word. I rub Abel's fine blonde hair and smile softly. I point over to Ravi and Kaylee who are holding the twins and say, "Baby."

Abel grins at the twins and hugs me softly. He reaches his arms up for Wendy to take him and she kisses his head again. Jax and Kozik hold the twins first for a few minutes before trading off to Nero and Keith. Nero and Keith hand the babies back to me and Tig. When Abel sees where the babies are, he wiggles out of his mom's arms and walks over to us. He lightly rubs Skye's hair then does the same to Alec. Tig and I smile at him as he toddles back over to Jax. Jax praises him for being so sweet with the twins. For the rest of the day, we just stay around the living room. Tig brings me something to eat or drink when I want it, and we let everyone take turns holding the twins, that night Tig helps me walk upstairs to go to our bedroom so we can go to bed early. We make sure to grab some of those premade bottles you just shake and open before we do go upstairs for the feedings through the night.
