Fitz wanted to throw his phone. He couldn't find two seats on any plane to Scotland. He had been looking for tickets for hours. He felt stuck. Karen was sleeping after eating her dinner. He did not want to leave her with Olivia. What choice did he have? Cancel his flight and miss his grandma's 100th birthday celebration? He hated that Olivia wouldn't let him buy Karen a ticket last week. Though, he didn't know how he would take Karen to another continent when he didn't have any legal documents showing he was her dad. He couldn't do anything without Olivia. There weren't any dishes in the kitchen, so he assumed Olivia cooked breakfast and cleaned earlier in the day. It was fall break and Karen was home all day. He didn't know why Olivia didn't sign her up for daycare for the week. She probably missed the signup deadline or they didn't have any available spaces. They still needed to talk. He knew Olivia had to be tired if she was letting Karen eat ice cream and cereal for dinner. He wasn't much better giving her takeout. He didn't have pregnancy as an excuse. Karen could run around from 6:00 in the morning until 9:30 at night when she fell asleep after whining about being tired. He was amazed that she didn't need any time to sit down and regain her energy after a few hours.

Why did every conversation have to be an argument with Olivia? He smiled to himself thinking he could do the same thing she wanted. He could always hire an egg donor and a surrogate. It would be easier than dealing with Olivia's attitude. He couldn't do that. Karen and the baby needed him. He was book smart, and yet he couldn't figure out how to make a relationship work. His first marriage to Angela was a failure. They were both starting their careers, and it wasn't a good time to be married. When that marriage failed, he married his one night stand. That failed because he gave Mellie too much of himself. Their backgrounds were similar, and he used Mellie as his therapist. He cared about Mellie, but it was never really love. He was more dependent on her for emotional support. When he met Olivia, he decided he would be happy and somewhat distant. He wouldn't tell her his life story. Now, here he was at her house sitting downstairs while she slept. He needed to talk to someone.

"Hello?"

"Are you working?"

"No, why are you calling me?"

"I know I'm an idiot for calling you, and you probably hate me."

"What do you want Fitz?"

"I want you to listen to me."

"I have someone here with me."

"I don't care about the guy. I just need you to listen. You've always listened to me. Can you do that for me?"

"Okay."

"Why can't I find someone and be happy?"

"Is this about Olivia?"

"I'm in love with your friend, and I'm calling you for advice. Are you going to hang up on me?"

"No, I don't really care."

"You don't?"

"No. I have another guy I'm happy."

"What should I do?"

"You can't try to control everything with Olivia. Let her lead, and you'll get what you want."

"Goodnight Mellie."

"I hope you don't call me again. My guy doesn't like that."
