A Private Reunion

Amelia gripped her wand in her pocket. A shiver ran through her, and she wished she'd thought to put a warmer coat on. She wanted to cast a warming charm on herself, but she was in the middle of a crowd of Muggles, and the last thing she needed was to have the obliviators giving her shit.

"Amelia?"

She spun around on the spot, eyes widening when she realised who she was looking at.

"Benjy?"

He grinned at her, wide and honest and by Merlin, she'd missed that smile so much in the time since she'd seen it. He held his arms out to her, and she let go of her wand in order to throw herself into his embrace, holding him tightly.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, pulling back only enough to look him in the eye.

He pressed a kiss to her cheek. "Let's go get some coffee and I'll tell you all about it, hmm?"

The cafe was small, and more importantly, empty except for the waitress who was paying them no mind at all, more interested in the magazine she had open on the counter.

Then again, it was quite late. She'd been surprised at the crowds still flooding the streets.

"So, what are you doing here?" Amelia repeated, her hands warming nicely around the hot coffee mug.

"I'm your new informant," Benjy replied with a cheeky grin. "I got back two days ago, and Albus thought it would be good for me to be the go between; what with us already being close and all."

She shook her head. "I don't want to put you in any—"

"If you're going to say danger, think about what you're saying, Amelia," Benjy interrupted softly. "I'm going to be in danger—we're all in danger—until this is all over. I have to be part of the solution, you know I do."

Amelia sighed, because she did know that. She was wired the same, after all, and after a moment, she nodded.

"Okay."

He smiled at her. "I have some information with me for you, but I thought… I thought maybe we could go back to your place? Catch up a bit, as well, you know? Besides, it would be safer for me to tell you in private, right?"

He had a salacious grin on his face, and she almost wanted to tell him no, just because he was being a presumptuous prat, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.

He'd been away, supposedly travelling although his involvement with Dumbledore had thrown that into doubt, and she hadn't seen him for months. She was looking forward to their private reunion as much as he seemed to be.

"I… okay. But work first, you hear me?"

He chuckled, low and throaty, and Amelia melted just a little.

"Whatever you say, Sweetheart. I missed you, Amelia. I really, really missed you."

She softened, and reached out to squeeze his hand. "I missed you too."
