A/N: I made a promise to my readers that I would warn ahead of time if the story took a dive into the darkness. This is not intended for kids. You have been warned.
Iver growled as he raised his bloodied sword in his hand. "I will finish what I should have done the night in the throne room." He lunged at the Northuldran whose eye's widened at the quick movement in the corner of her eye. Gasps and a strangled scream was heard as everyone was frozen at what they just witnessed. Maren looked up from the floor and scrambled to stand, Elsa, "What did you do?" She whispered as she stared at the sword protruding out from Elsa's stomach.
Elsa opened her mouth to answer Maren, "Because I…" She stopped mid sentence as her eyes followed Maren's to see the tip of the sword sticking out of her upper stomach. That's not good. She thought as she began to cough, not understanding why Maren's eyes widened as she felt her body relax at the woodsy smell of her Northuldran flooding her senses as her world fell away. Everything happened quickly as the soldiers flooded forward capturing the shocked Prince before he could move. "I didn't do it, You saw it yourselves, she ran in front of my sword." Iver ground out trying to wiggle out of the grasp of Mattias' strong arms. He pushed him to a loyal Arendellian soldier, "Take him to the dungeon and I want two guards on him and Jakob at all times." He authoritatively said. Maren held her dying queen in her hands frozen in shock from the sight of Elsa talking one moment and blood coming from her mouth the next. Anna hadn't moved since her worst nightmare played out in front of her own eyes. Why would she do that? The doctor rushed forward to pull the sword from Elsa as he pressed down hard on her back and stomach. "She's still breathing, but she's losing a lot of blood." He said as he pried her out of Marens arms. "Queen Anna, We need to start a transfusion if we are to attempt to save her. You are going to be her only chance at living." He urgently said as Anna nodded in compliance.
Several days later Honeymaren was still sitting here vigil over Elsa. Anna walked in the room and smiled, "You know, she wouldn't know you went and took in some fresh air right? Maren looked up, "I spent days away from her already while she went through hell. The least I can do is be here when she wakes up." Anna smiled sadly. "She would be mortified to know that you aren't taking care of yourself." Maren sighed. "I'll go sit on the balcony until the doctor comes to check on her. Deal?" Anna shook her head. "I suppose that is a compromise. I'll be back for the doctor." She walked out of the room. Maren stretched as she walked out onto the balcony, looking out towards the fjord and closed her eyes. After a painstaking few hours of stitching the unconscious queen the doctor stood, "There is nothing more we can do, but wait for her to wake." The doctor finished as he pulled the needle from Anna's arm. "Thank you." She sleepily stated as Kristoff scooped her into his arms. "I'm going to take her to bed." He said as he left the room. Maren sat on the edge of the bed staring at the winter spirit who looked as if she were sleeping. Why would you do that for me? She thought as tears streamed down her face. She took Elsa's cool hand into her own and threaded her fingers around Elsa's. "Please, You have to live. I cannot be left without seeing your icy blue eyes looking back at me." She whispered as she waited for a reply.
The doctor opened the door and walked over to the bed pulling down the bedding not acknowledging the Northuldran in the room. His fingers traced over the reddening around the wound mumbling to himself as he rolled her to the side to look at the back stitch work. He spread a salve over the wounds and dressed them again. He stood and pulled the blanket over the queen before walking towards the door. "How is she doing?" Maren asked. He turned and shook his head. "If the queen wishes to tell you." He gruffly stated as she was left alone. She looked back to her girlfriend and wiped the hair from her face. "I love you." She whispered as she leaned to kiss her forehead when the door opened. "Maren." Anna said with tears in her eyes. "What's wrong?" Maren looked up at the redheaded queen. Anna walked over to the bed to run fingers through her sisters hair. "He said that she has a mild infection. It's nothing to worry about yet, but we need to keep an eye on the wounds. I have to go in front of the council today to go over everything that happened. Will you find me if she wakes up." Maren embraced Anna, "Of course I will." She replied.
"What is Queen Elsa's status?" Arvid asked. "My sister is stable for now, but she has been through a lot in the last few weeks." Anna replied. Quiet murmurs were heard around the room, "We have received news that Iver and Hans had been thrown out of the Southern Isles for their sick obsession with Arendelle, but the King and Queen have asked for them to be delivered back to their kingdom." Anna's mouth opened in shock as she looked at the council as she began to rant, "That sick son of a bitch tortured my sister, held myself, my fiance and my sister's girlfriend hostage, and he thrust a sword in my sisters abdomen. No!" She yelled as she turned towards Mattias. "He does not leave the dungeon until he goes to trial here unless myself or my sister says otherwise!" He nodded his head. "What about the traitorous guards that helped orchestrate this fiasco?" Arvid asked Mattias. "We haven't been able to locate Jakob, but the ten men that stood with him are also in the dungeon awaiting their fates." He answered. The council dispersed out of the room leaving Anna and Mattias together. "Has there been any news of Jakob?" Anna asked quietly. "We followed several leads all without results." He looked at the queen with frustration. "I don't understand how he slipped past us so easily." He looked down. Anna smiled. "We will find him eventually."
Maren sat on the bed running her fingers through Elsa's hair when the winter spirits eyes fluttered. "Elsa." Maren gasped as icy blue eyes looked widely around the room. "What happened?" She rasped out. "You stupidly put yourself in front of a sword for me." Maren replied. Elsa's eyes furrowed as the fuzzy events started to replay in her mind. "I love you too." Elsa whispered out as she closed her eyes again. Maren sat in shock at her words. I promised to get Anna. She leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Sleep love, I'll be back soon." She whispered as she stood to leave the room Elsa's hand grabbed hers. "Please don't leave me." Maren smiled. "I'm just going to get Anna. I'll be back in just a moment." Maren leaned down to kiss the winter spirit softly before turning out of the room.
A/N: It's like coming up for fresh air when the darkness fades. This week is going to be a bit crazy. I cannot promise a chapter a day as I have some work matters that require my attention, but I will try my best to update a few times this week. See you guys soon. :)
