Well hey there guys. I finished my upgrading yesterday and to celebrate, I finished writing this fic! You might notice I posted 2 chapters, the second is kinda like a nice little bonus that I thought would be a cute little unique end.
Love you guys! Here's a quick little recap:
...
"Hey Jonah, I forgot to tell you something!" her voice bounced down the street. "I can control your monster too!"
The monster spread massive red wings that blocked out the sky and took a step forward. The car disappeared under its foot.
Then it looked back up at her.
Well shit. Whatever cockiness that filled her a second ago completely disappeared. Her stomach dropped as it made eye contact. It knew exactly who she was.
Her foot slipped off the pedal. It roared, rearing its head.
A wall of water came out of nowhere and crashed up against it, cutting off the horrible noise.
Water flooded the street and rained down onto her. Godzilla finally made it.
...
Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah
…
The red titan stumbled as Godzilla rammed into it. Buildings collapsed under its body, creating a mixture of water and dust in the morning sun. The spectrum of refracted light shone bright against Godzilla's grey scales.
His amber eyes only met hers for a second. Go, Amara.
He turned back, glaring at the other titan that slowly rose up. He snarled, tilting his head back and forth, mimicking a gesture she often did.
Easier said than done. As Godzilla's hair raising roar rattled her skull, she once again planted her foot on the pedal, pushing off and riding away from the giants.
The first thing that caught her eye, was Mothra. She was perched on top of a tall building, her wings weighed down by fatigue, her eyes were focused back on Godzilla.
The fact that Mothra was still alive was surprising. She looked so delicate, yet she'd been holding Destroyer back until Godzilla arrived. Other than her worn wings and slacked posture, she seemed fine.
Violent tremors unsettled the bike, Amara lost balance and caught herself just before the bike fell. She turned back to the fight.
Godzilla must have knocked Destroyer back again, as the red titan took a step back and smashed into a skyscraper.
Why have you stopped? Keep going. Mothra will keep you safe.
Before Amara turned back around, Destroyer's head snapped in her direction. Her eyes immediately met its.
Then it moved, not towards Godzilla, but towards her. Its pure intent fogged her mind. Intent to kill her.
Instinct must have kicked in, because a moment later she was running. When had she dropped the bike?
The ground rumbled in irregular pulses, much faster than before. It was coming for her. She ran into the shadow of a building when the road shook so violently, she tripped, just catching herself in time.
How close was it?
She looked back, craning her neck to look up to the towering titan that was far too close. Destroyer stumbled as Godzilla grabbed one of its wings and pulled it back towards him and away from Amara.
A flash of red caught the corner of her eye. A long whip-like tail with two curved blades at the end. It swung over her head and slammed into the skyscraper. It sliced through, dissecting the building horizontally.
The blood froze in her veins. The building groaned, shattered glass fell to the sidewalk beside her.
The higher she looked, the more the building seemed to sway.
Getting bigger and bigger.
Closer and closer.
Faster and faster.
Her eyes wouldn't close. Her body wouldn't respond. This was it. She was going to be crushed by a skyscraper. Done. Gone. Erased from existence.
A blur of grey came between her and the falling building. A body.
Concrete and glass exploded as it hit Godzilla. The shockwave rocked his body down to his claws that landed behind her. His roar was barely discernible over the noise.
Dust cut off her vision and itched at her skin. Her legs collapsed beneath her. Phantom pain radiating down her back.
A low crocodilian growl escaped his throat, but he didn't move. You're too slow.
"I—" Amara tred, but dust filled her lungs, making her cough.
A low, almost demonic roar sounded through the settling rubble. Godzilla began to push his body up against the weight of the building that pinned him down.
Why is it connected to you?
Amara met his eye. He was made from you and Ghidorah.
Made?
Yes, by the same man who woke up the titans.
Anger pulled at his jaws, his eyes narrowed. Rubble shifted as Godzilla put more force into lifting it.
Though Godzilla obstructed her view, there was no doubt Destroyer was coming towards them.
"Hurry up!"
More debris fell to Godzilla sides, shaking with each of Destroyer's foot falls. Godzilla was running out of time.
A flash of teal and a shriek signaled Mothra's approach. Godzilla looked up as well, watching her fly past.
"She's buying you time…"
She's buying us time.
Godzilla shook his body, the action was slow but effective. The phantom pressure on her back dissipated, rubble falling to the sides of his torso. Godzilla straightened his arms and pushed himself up enough to flip a clawed hand upwards.
Come.
"With you? Where?"
I will keep you safe.
"That doesn't answer my question!"
Now.
The thought was too forceful to resist. Amara got up on unstable legs. It took all the energy she had to climb up into Godzilla's hand. Once she found a secure spot with a jagged scale to hang onto, Godzilla rose onto his hind legs.
The world became clear, even the dust couldn't reach her. Most buildings paled against Godzilla's height. The Tokyo bay wasn't far, fallen buildings paved clear line of sight to it and the monster in the way.
Mothra swooped down at Destryer, spraying webbing into its eyes. With one hand, it clawed at its face, drawing its own blood, while the other swiped blindly into the sky near Mothra. She dodged the uncoordinated swings easily.
Godzilla limped away from Destroyer. Military helicopters passed by, ignoring him. Wind blasted her, cold and humid. Her stomach flopped with every step he took.
Looking back, Destroyer had ripped the webbing off its face. As it looked around, a sharp pain stabbed at her temple. Its eyes locked onto her. It roared and spread its wings. Fixated, it came after her, destroying everything left in its path.
"It won't stop chasing me." She turned back. "There's nowhere to go, we have to fight it!"
The wind stilled as Godzilla came to a halt. His visible eye slid down to her. I will not fight while you are near.
"You don't have a choice—" Amara was thrown forward, her breath ripped from her lungs.
Destroyer slammed into Godzilla's back. It was heavy enough to nearly knock Godzilla to the ground.
Godzilla swung his body around to face Destroyer, who was shaking its head. He took a step forward and swung an arm out, punching it in the throat. Destroyer reeled back, a strangled roar escaping its mouth.
When had Godzilla learned to punch?
It worked well for you.
Destroyer gagged and clawed at its neck. Yeah well, it worked even better for Godzilla.
Mothra circled above. Around her the blue sky was dotted with helicopters. Where they monitoring? Waiting to see who would win?
Godzilla Roared. Destroyer charged. The security of Godzilla's hand became a rollercoaster, bending and flexing around her. Every movement was colossal. Both too fast to see and too huge to follow with her eyes.
Destroyer swiped at Godzilla with the long, jagged horn protruding from its forehead. It sliced through the scale above the gills on his neck, drawing blood.
Her neck stung. It was like a massive papercut spanning from her jaw to her shoulder.
No matter how many times Godzilla hit the larger titan, it refused to back down. The fact that he was only using one hand was a major disadvantage. All she could do was hold on and bare their shared pain.
She squeezed her eyes shut. If only there was something, anything that would get it to back off, even for a minute so Godzilla could catch his breath.
The back of her eyelids filled with the image of Destroyer. Even through Godzilla's eyes, it was huge. Its wings blocked out everything behind it and its tail swished like a whip, appearing and disappearing from sight.
She opened her eyes when Godzilla's hand suddenly shifted, plunging nearly two stories as Destroyer bit down on his neck.
Godzilla wailed out in pain, clawing blindly at Destroyers face.
"Grab its horn!" Amara shouted, letting go with one hand to cover her neck.
Godzilla did as she said, reaching up and grasping it. He pried Destroyer off him, bending its head back. He bit down on its exposed throat.
The plate like material crunched under the pressure of Godzilla's jaws until it cracked into fragments between his teeth.
Destroyer backed away, hunched and in pain.
Godzilla looked up to the sky towards Mothra. She responded, coming close and flying between them and Destroyer.
Cover your eyes.
Reacting as if the thought was her own, she immediately put her hand across her face and closed her eyes.
Mothra screeched and bright light penetrated through the gaps of her fingers and through her eyelids.
Destroyer roared and the light dissipated. Godzilla quickly closed the distance. He was going to slam into Destroyer again.
Its legs, go for its legs!
Godzilla changed tactics. Just as he closed in, he twisted his body, transferring all his momentum to his tail aiming straight for Destroyer's knees.
The hit was powerful enough to send it tumbling to the earth in a plume of dust.
Godzilla raised his hand so she was level to his face .Mothra's wings eclipsed the sky as she closed in. Amara shrunk back as she landed daintily above her on Godzilla's claws.
Go with her. She will take you to safety.
She looked up into his eye. "Go with her? How?"
There is no time. Go.
Mothra bent her slender legs and brought her body closer. It was covered in fuzz long enough to grab. There was no other choice. Destroyer was already getting back up and Godzilla wouldn't be able to defeat it with her in his hand.
She gripped Mothra's fur. It took everything to pull herself up to the indented area between her head and thorax.
From on top of Mothra she faced Godzilla. He gazed straight into her eyes, inclining his head the slightest bit. She nodded back.
Mothra took off, shooting upwards like a slingshot. Wind blasted at her face, drying her eyes and pushing her lashes back. Godzilla was below and shrinking in size. He looked up at them before turning back to Destroyer and squaring his shoulders.
It was only a matter of seconds before Mothra descended and landed on a rooftop. A collection of gasps drew her attention to the edge of the building were a group of people were standing.
While Ling and Ilene approached Mothra slowly, Mi Sun shot past, fearless of yet another titan.
"Amara," She called. "You were supposed to come with us!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to lead Destroyer here," she replied, starting to climb back down.
Hands gripped her ribs just as she began to slip down Mothra's side. Whyley supported her drop to the ground.
He shook his head. "I swear I'm going to tether you to Mi Sun."
Mi Sun came up and embraced her. "Do it now Whyley." Her voice was only half joking.
They went back to the edge of the rooftop leaving the twins with Mothra. This building was taller than the one they arrived on. It was the tallest in the area, leaving Godzilla and Destroyer visible past lower buildings.
Sam and Rick had Whyley's radio in between them. The volume was up, military personnel speaking through intermittent static.
"Where've you been?" Rick greeted casually.
Down below, Destroyer got back to its feet. Godzilla approached it slowly but confidently. Nothing held him back now. The partially blinded lab creation wouldn't stand a…
The circle of triangular bones that made up its chest opened outward. Revealing a black abyss behind them. Green fluid flowed out of it, spilling down its torso and legs and mixing with its blood. Green light filled the opening and all at once, a massive beam shot out of it, hitting Godzilla like a wall.
Godzilla toppled into a skyscraper. Amara doubled over. The pain was familiar, but that didn't make it burn any less.
Mi Sun bent down to her side. "Are you alright?"
A cough escaped her throat instead of words. No, no she was not.
Rick gaped. "Jesus, what was that?"
The twins ran over asking Sam what happened.
Humming cut through the noise of aircraft. Louder with each pulse.
Mi Sun helped her back up. Godzilla was obscured by dust, but the blue glow of his dorsal plates gave away his position. He was still on his side, not willing to take the time to get up before attacking.
His atomic breath cut through the dust cloud and hit Destroyer in the shoulder.
Chatter on the radio increased. Rushed commands, formations, retreating strategies. Then of course, the inevitable topic came up. Bombing them, and in turn, bombing Tokyo.
Whyley picked up the radio and held it to his mouth. "This is Lieutenant Whyley of the UNTDA. Who's acting Commander?"
The radio cracked. "Whyley? Where have you been?"
"I've been assisting Monarch, but that's beside the point. We can't bomb Tokyo. It won't kill anything."
"We have to try. We can't let Destroyer escape. It will be impossible to track if it goes underwater."
"The oxygen destroyer won't affect it." Whyley's voice rose. "That beam it shot out of it's body is the same thing. It would be like bombing Godzilla, and just make it stronger."
"We don't know that."
"Just give Godzilla a chance. He hasn't let us down yet. Bombing Tokyo isn't the answer!"
"You're not the first to tell me that. We will remain on standby for the time being."
"Thank you."
Amara nodded over to Whyley and he retuned the gesture.
Godzilla and Destroyer clashed again. Biting, clawing, tearing, ripping. Destroyer's long tail flicked though the air, the blades at the end striking Godzilla like a cobra.
The pain of each hit, each slash, each bite blended into one and other. It faded quickly into anger and adrenaline, fatigue and breathlessness.
Destroyer took every hit, displaying nothing but apathy towards any pain it may have felt. It pushed forward like a wave against the beach, unstoppable. Its plate like armor was nearly impenetrable while Godzilla's scale glistened red with blood.
Destroyer's chest opened again, exposing the black void. Godzilla didn't have enough time to react as the beam hit him full force at point blank range.
It burned like boiling water dumped onto exposed skin.
Godzilla let out a wail and recoiled. Amara crumpled to the ground.
Mi Sun appeared out of her darkening peripheral vision.
Hands held her shoulders. "Hey, stay awake, Amara."
Her eyes were open but her vision still grew darker. "I can't see."
Even her own voice sounded detached from her body.
"You can't pass out now." It was another voice. Whyley?
A hand gently slapped at her cheek. "If she goes out, Godzilla might too. Look at him!"
Amara.
Mi Sun was right. If she fell asleep, Godzilla might too. Destroyer would come straight to her…Or maybe he would use his chest beam and vaporize them.
Amara, where are you?
"I'm here," she mumbled.
You must go.
His voice, his thoughts, they were as weak as hers.
"I can't move."
You must. I will try to destroy it the same way as I did Ghidorah.
"You can't." Even if I wasn't here, this place is home to millions of people.
If I do not kill this monster, even more than that will die.
Distant voices broke though the black void.
"Uh guys, it's coming towards us, we should really go now."
"Godzilla's radiation levels are spiking. I think he's going to go thermonuclear again."
I'm not leaving, and you are not going to destroy this city.
There is no other way. It is more powerful than I.
That was Godzilla's excuse? It was stronger? Since when was strength the be all end all of a fight? She'd grown up fighting people stronger than her, bigger than her. Something Godzilla could rarely relate to. In the end, he was always the most powerful.
But there was something to say about strategy. That's why you have to fight smarter, not harder.
How?
She blinked, her surroundings slowly coming into focus. She was on the rooftop, and the ground. Her vision split into two, but focusing on one. I'll show you.
Buildings shrunk as his body rose from the dust and ash. Power pulsed through her veins like hot blood. His claws flexed. She screamed, he roared.
Through one eye, Destroyer faced her. From the other, his back was turned. From that eye, he wasn't as big, a sizable opponent.
Was she her, or was she him?
Was there a difference when their minds were connected?
Every feeling, every sensation was shared. Their minds were one.
Destroyer turned around, roaring back at Godzilla. Blood poured from between its teeth and punctures around its eyes, Mothra's doing, no doubt.
It rushed toward Godzilla, seemingly angered by his perseverance.
But she held her ground, held their ground. Godzilla did not move. Instead he took a step forward and lowered his body, leaning forward.
If Godzilla could punch like her, he could throw like her.
As Destroyer made contact, Godzilla's head connected with its lower abdomen, pushing forward and upward. Destroyer's feet left the ground as it tumbled over Godzilla's back and plummeted into the ground.
Godzilla was on top of it within a second, grabbing its wing with his claws and biting into the base. Teeth crunched against bone as Godzilla used his powerful jaws and neck to tear through the limb.
With a loud snap and a screech from Destroyer, the wing separated from its body.
Destroyer rolled and swiped at Godzilla's face, just missing his eye as its claws dragged down his face.
A pulsing sensation tingled from her spine, creeping up each vertebra. Destroyer's red scale turned violet in the blue glow of Godzilla's energy.
Like an involuntary reflex, Godzilla released his atomic breath. It hit Destroyer, engulfing its face in blue fire.
Destroyer screeched again, but Godzilla continued until there was no air left in his lungs.
He took a step back as she and him caught their combined breath.
Still, Destroyer began to get up. It's face was blackened and mangled. Yellow eyes glinting against burnt scale. It was smaller now that it only had one massive wing. It stood on the other, mangling it as if it hadn't just been a part of its body.
Godzilla snarled. It refuses to die.
Her spine began to tingle again, crawling upwards towards her neck.
Don't get angry. We have to focus. She inhaled through her nose, filling her lungs completely, then exhaled steadily through her mouth.
Godzilla did the same. He had no choice. The tingling remained but stopped at the base of her neck. She breathed in again, even deeper. The tingle grew hotter. Cooling only slightly when she let it back out.
In and out, each breath it grew hotter and hotter. Harder to keep down.
From her other eye that overlooked from the rooftop, Godzilla's dorsal plates changed color. Each inhale they turned orange, fading to blue when he exhaled.
The spikes on Destroyer's chest shifted, exposing the void.
Her body burned with the eternal energy swirling inside like a raging fire. The humidity evaporated from the intense heat of his body.
Is this what power felt like?
Is this how Godzilla could destroy an entire city?
Destroyer planted its feet, the void glowing. The green light paled in comparison to Godzilla's alternating glow that seeped through the cracks of his scales and lit up his eyes.
It was now or never.
Destroyer roared as the green light blasted out from its chest.
At the same time Godzilla released his atomic breath.
Blue collided with green. Although Godzilla's atomic breath was smaller, it disrupted the green energy, deflecting it away from his body and out towards surrounding buildings that exploded on impact.
As air left his lungs, he forced it out harder, funnelling out more and more of the built up energy. He leaned forward, bracing himself with his arms. His scales once again turned orange, and with it, his atomic breath.
It doubled in size, even larger than Destroyer's oxygen beam. It pushed back, overpowering Destroyer, who wailed and relented.
Godzilla's attack hit it dead in the void of its chest. Blinding orange. Destroyer shrieked, higher and higher as the beam cut straight through its body and out its back.
Godzilla only stopped when there was no energy left to leave him. His jaws snapped shut. He got back up, walking over to Destroyer's downed body. He looked down on the dying titan, stepping on its throat.
He let out a loud roar into Destroyer's face as he crushed its neck.
It finally stopped moving. Dead.
Her mind collided with her body and suddenly she was back on the rooftop with Mi Sun and Whyley by her side.
They stared out to were Godzilla was, his chest still rising and falling, his mouth slightly open to let in more air.
It didn't take long for helicopters to come close to inspect the damage. Godzilla eyed them as they circled.
He did it. He killed Destroyer.
"Jesus, I was sure he was about to blow the city." Came Rick's voice from somewhere behind her.
Glancing back, he and Sam were exiting the helicopter. Were they about to try to leave?
"Told you guys he wouldn't while Amara was here," Mi Sun said, shaking her head.
Rick came back over. "Yeah well, you didn't witness his last fight first hand."
The building shook as Godzilla limbered towards them. Instead of going through the city, he trudged through the shallow water of the Tokyo bay. Helicopters followed him.
Voices over the radio were puzzled, but calm. No talk of killing him, thankfully.
As Godzilla approached, Rick and Sam exchanged unsure glances. The twins stayed silent by Mothra.
Something buzzed against Amara's thigh. Her phone? She pulled it out. The screen was cracked but otherwise was fine. What was more surprising was who was calling. Mom.
Why would her mom be calling? Was she alright?
"Don't make me answer it for you again," Whyley said from over her shoulder.
Amara sent him a glare, bringing the phone up to her ear. "Hello?"
"Amara, where are you right now?" Her mother's voice was so familiar, despite how long it had been since they last talked.
"I'm, uh, at home."
"Are you sure about that, because there's a girl that looks an awful lot like you on the news right now." Her voice was dangerously high pitched and growing louder by the word.
On the news? How? Surely none of the helicopters flying around had a camera.
"What in the hell are you thinking? Why were you in the middle of Godzilla fighting that thing? You could have died!" Her voice broke down into sobs.
"Mom, I'm fine. It's over now." She looked up to Godzilla who now stood in front of her. He was only slightly taller than the building. "Godzilla killed it."
"I s—see that. But still…"
Her eyes met Godzilla's. Three long scratches were etched across his cheek from above his eye to his jaw, red and bloody. Despite them, his eyes were gentle and calm. They drooped with fatigue.
"Mom, I have a lot to tell you."
"Is that you on the rooftop?" her mom asked quietly.
Sure enough, a helicopter looked down at her, Godzilla and the others. It was close enough that the camera man was visible. So the media was there after all.
She raised a hand and waved up to it. "Hi mom," she said into her phone.
"Oh my god," she gasped out.
Godzilla looked up at the helicopter as well, it hovered backwards and distanced itself from him.
"Can I call you back later?"
"Y—yes you'd better. You have a lot of explaining to do."
"I know. Bye mom," she said and hung up.
We have been found out. Godzilla looked back down at her.
She reached out for him. It was inevitable.
Out of the corner of her eye, Mi Sun smiled. Godzilla leaned forward and closed the gap. This time the whole world was going to see what she had intended the first time she attempted it.
And when his nose touched the palm of her hand, the aching and pain seemed to dissipate. They really were stronger together. Their connection an unbreakable bridge between human and titan.
…
It was mid October by the time things began to settle again.
Well maybe settled for the world, but Amara's life wasn't the same. The government of course knew who she was now but didn't quite know the extent of her connection with Godzilla. Not like they would believe her if she told them anyway.
The only good thing was the government kept her identity a secret and the footage wasn't quite clear enough to distinguish her from thousands of other girls with dark hair. As long as she stayed away from the media, her identity would remain a secret.
Amara passed the sunscreen to Mi Sun. "This really wasn't what I envisioned working for Monarch would be like."
"No?" She replied, applying some on her face.
Amara shook her head and smiled at her. "No, not at all."
"I mean, your research boat is much better than mine, so I am a little jealous." She gestured to Whyley who was at the wheel and Tao who leaned against the railing looking out towards the ocean. "You even have a crew."
"Yeah, but you're the captain. I am but your lowly research assistant."
"I'm pretty sure Tao is the captain of the boat, even if he is letting Whyley drive for some reason." She raised her voice so he could hear.
"Aren't you guys supposed to be diving?" Whyley yelled back over the crashing water.
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say Gale." Amara grabbed her suit from off her chair.
He grumbled something about preferring being called Whyley.
It hardly felt like fall being so close to the equator. To think her classmates were back in university while she took a year off to "save up some money" as she told them.
But hey, it was true.
The Sashishima Islands were up ahead. They were now under military protection as Godzilla came straight back there after the Tokyo battle. The people of Yonaguni welcomed both him and her back with open arms.
Monarch bought her a small house close to Tao's family. Tao himself visiting nearly every day, helping her settle in, bringing her food and teaching her Japanese.
Amara pulled the suit over her shoulders. "I will say this base is way better than Castle Bravo, it was way too cold down there."
"I think this is more like a natural habitat than a base. I'm glad that their little facility there will be solar powered."
"Yeah it's looking more like a house than a lab."
"Tao will have to keep you company there while Whyley and I are away." Mi Sun winked.
Amara's eyes darted over to Tao who seemed oblivious to their conversation. "Could you shut up, I don't like him like that!"
"Then why is your face red?"
Amara loudly shushed her and attempted to zip up the back of her diving suit. Mi Sun sauntered away with a sly smile on her face.
"Hey, I need your help!"
Mi Sun continued walking away and up the steps to where Whyley was.
"I know you can hear me!" Amara called after her.
Tao meandered over without a care in the world. "Do you need help, Amara-chan?"
"Yes." She turned around so he could zip it up. "Arigatou, Tao-kun"
"You are welcome," he replied happily.
She made sure to glare at Mi Sun and Whyley one last time before walking out to the opening between the railing. They only snickered in response.
"Okay, I'm ready."
Whyley slowed the boat and cut the engine. Leaving only the sound of gently lapping waves, crystal blue and sparkling in the warm sunlight.
"Ganbatte, ne." Tao called as she dove in.
Her vision was painted in shades of blue. The darkest was ahead where Godzilla swam.
It wasn't much different than when she had first seen him all those months ago, tail gently swaying as he followed the current. Whale sharks, marlin, and even manta rays swam around him.
She swam closer, past the schools of fish that glistened as they darted away. Closer and closer she came until she was next to his eye. He opened it lazily and closed it again.
She held onto a small spiked scale near the back of his head, the rest of her body relaxing with his.
He rolled in the water the opposite way the fish swam around him. There were too many to count as they entered her line of sight. Even sharks appeared now and again, harmless and peaceful.
The depths below were darker than ever, but there was nothing to be afraid of anymore. It was just another world, one that she went to when she slept and gazed through Godzilla's eyes. It was a home away from home. A home to life that may never be seen. A home to Godzilla.
You no longer fear it, then?
No, not anymore.
Strange how much her world had changed.
