Chapter 49: Accidentally in Love

Derek's Point-of-View

"This is your room." I said to my baby girl cradled snugly in my arms, we were finally home and after nine weeks in the hospital, we were all ready to be home. Olivia now weighed a healthy seven pounds and three ounces. Her lungs were healthy as any one's…trust me, I heard them. She was a happy little two month old, "This is your rocking chair, it's where we're going to read you bedtime stories and cuddle you when you're scared of the dark.

I walked over to the corner where the bookshelf was.

"This is your bookshelf, it's where your reading collection will be held. For now, it's kind of small stuff but I'm sure in no time you'll be reading the classics to us. You're a smart little girl and I know you'll make us proud."

I walked over to the closet and opened a door to show her the collection of little pink dresses and fuzzy outfits already started.

"And this…" I said enthusiastically "This is where you're going to break Daddy. If you're anything like your aunts, I'll have to dip into your college fund by the time you hit high school and probably have to build you a second closet for all the clothes you'll want and only wear half of. But hey... that's ok, I'm glad you're here to put clothes on at all."

"Maybe she'll be like her mother." I heard behind me and turned to see my beautiful wife in the doorway rolling her eyes "Maybe she won't care all that much about a full wardrobe."

"Well I suppose if she is, we won't have anything to worry about in the teen years then huh?"

"No." she giggled as she walked over and smiled at our daughter "She'll have a closet full of black clothes, go through a bottle of eye liner a week and one day come down the stairs with cotton candy pink hair."

I looked at my daughter feeling horror and glanced at my wife "Seriously.. you were the pink hair girl in high school?"

"Seriously." She giggled "I'm sure Olivia will be a perfect mix of the two of us."

"She already is." I smiled "She's got my hair, your nose, my cheeks… and definitely your temper."

"Hey, you don't have such a calm demeanor either." She defended "I'd say she has your temper."

"I don't' have a temper." I frowned "I'm calm as a cucumber."

"Do I need to remind you of what threw me into early labor?" she rose her brow.

"Ok… you have a point." I grumbled "But he knocked up my baby sister."

"Now they're married and have a baby boy on the way." She sighed softly "Life has a way of working itself out… it might not make any sense at first but look at us."

"True." I smiled and kissed my wife so full of wisdom as she took the baby, I rubbed her soft curls as she started to drift off to sleep "Who knew."

"Who knew what?" she asked.

"Who knew I'd fall so deeply in love with the girl I'd met in the Las Vegas airport." I said as I cradled her chin in my palm and stared into the love of my life's eyes "Who knew a simple accident would turn out to be the best thing in my life."

"Hmm." She smiled "Accidentally in love."

I grinned before kissing her serenely. Yes, she was absolutely right.

Accidentally in love.
