Harry waited outside the Quidditch pitch changing rooms. He watched Ginny fly above, her skill was unmatched this year, everyone knew it, especially Ginny. He'd been waiting for about an hour, he wasn't going to miss this opportunity to talk to her alone, without her troupe of Harry hating friends.
She flew down to the ground with a quaffle tucked under her arm. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Harry waiting for her. She quickly found her feet again and walked past him into the changing room. She began putting away her gear and equipment, doing a very good job pretending Harry wasn't there.
"Okay, Gin, I get it. Can we talk? Please?" Harry begged.
"I don't make a habit of talking to heart breakers." she said, pulling off her quidditch robes. She always practiced in her uniform.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry. We haven't talked at all since we broke up -"
"Since you broke up with me for Malfoy, you mean. Can't imagine why." she snapped at him.
"Right. Well, I didn't want to spring it on you, but he's actually coming to dinner this weekend."
Ginny slammed the door to her closet, she didn't speak for a moment. Harry thought she might be crying.
"You know what? It's fine. I - I love you, Harry. I loved you before you loved me. I love you still. Together or not, you are still a part of our family and that isn't going to change. Of course you're bringing him 'round. And just so there are no surprises for you . . . I've also been seeing someone, so. I'm fine."
Harry nodded at her, searching her freckled face for hidden emotions. He was happy to see she was being honest.
"You must really care about him to bring him home."
"Yeah, I do."
She pursed her lips, looking at him, "well, I should get to the shower before dinner."
"Right. Right. Of course, yeah." he stepped aside to let her through. He was surprised to feel her arms around him, hugging him tightly. He put his arms around her, returning the hug.
"I love you, Harry. I hope that you're happy."
He heard her sincerity and he was so grateful to have her in his life, even if their footing was a little rocky right now.
"Thanks, Gin."
She let him go and headed back to the castle alone.
He summoned his firebolt from the tower and took the air. He didn't play anymore. He felt like he should focus on classes, seeing as it was the one year where Voldemort wouldn't be bothering him. He had not anticipated a new distraction in the form of the blond Slytherin.
Harry flew freely through the air. Flying had always been such a freedom for him, since his very first flying lesson. He came to a stop in the middle of the field, high above the ground staring off into the distance.
He took his broom past the pitch towards Hagrid's and over the forbidden forest. He saw in the distance thestrals rising and dipping below the tree line. He flew over and weaved between the branches to the ground. As he suspected, he found Luna there in a clearing. She sat with her legs under her, backed up against a tree, a small thestral curled up at her side. She looked up when Harry broke through the branches, her golden hair glinted in the sun.
"Hello, Harry. I haven't seen you fly recently."
"Hey Lunes. Saw the thestrals, thought I'd find you here." Harry dismounted his firebolt and sat next to her against the mossy tree.
"Yes, they keep me company."
Harry nodded and rested her head back, sighing heavily.
"What's got you, Harry?"
"Nothing, it's just nice to sit in the quiet. Do you mind?"
"Of course not."
They sat quietly for a while, Harry watched the skeletal like horses fly in and out.
"Hey Lunes?"
"Hmm?"
"Is Ginny doing okay?"
Luna looked up from her Care of Magical Creatures, "uh, yes. She's doing well. She was really broken up when you ended it with her, but I think she's come off it quite well. Blaise has really perked up her mood."
Harry stared at her, eyes wide, "Blaise is the bloke Ginny's seeing?!"
"Oh, I thought you knew that, I'm sorry."
"I- she just told me she was seeing someone. She didn't say who." he looked at the ground, brows furrowed in thought, "I've seen Blasie everyday this week." he gasped and snapped his eyes to Luna's, "do you think Draco knows?"
Luna did not answer in any way. She returned his stare, waiting for him to answer himself.
He stumbled up from the forest floor and straddled his firebolt, "See you, Lunes."
Luna ran her hand along the head of the young Thestral, "I do hope he doesn't make a fool of himself.
