In the middle of the night, Troy woke having felt the loss of warmth around him. He looked down to Gabriella but found that she was no longer in his arms. He knew there was only two places she would be. He checked Isabella's room first but she wasn't in there so he went downstairs. He paused on the stair case, seeing Gabriella in the living room; she was holding Isabella's care bear. He walked over and sat beside her, pulling her into his side.
Gabriella leant her head against his chest and clutched the bear to her. He kissed her forehead. "It's ok Brie, we're gonna get her back."
"I hope she's ok, she's only ever spent one night away from me and she doesn't know anyone or have anything, she won't feel safe."
He hugged her tighter, "I know Baby, but I'm sure she's ok, it's their job to make sure that the children are safe."
They were interrupted by a knocked at the door. Confused, Troy stands up to answer it and they were greeted by the same officer who had taken Isabella. "I'm sorry to bother you at this hour, but there have been some complications with Isabella and the trial has been moved to tomorrow afternoon for the safety of the child."
Gabriella panicked. "Complications? What complications? What's going on with my baby?"
"There is nothing to worry about Miss Montez. Isabella is ok and safe with our carers."
She nodded slowly, "will she be there tomorrow?"
"Yes, because she is so young, the trial will be completed differently than normal custody cases. Anyway I'll leave you two now and I'm sorry for disturbing you at this hour."
Gabriella nodded. "Thank you." They shut the door and returned upstairs.
The next day when they were in the courtroom, the child services worker who had been looking after Isabella came over to the teenagers. "Gabriella Montez? I'm Melissa Ramsay and I was caring for Isabella last night,"
"How was she? Was she ok?"
Melissa sighed, "I was told that the officer did not inform you of this last night but as a mother myself, I know how important a child's safety is to their mother and I can already see the unconditional love you have for Isabella." Melissa prepared herself for what she was about to tell the teen. "I'm sure you know that after Isabella was removed from your home yesterday, she was quite distraught, which is expected of a child her age. However, there were some complications."
"What complications, where's my baby girl?"
"She will be here soon Gabriella, I assure you... After Isabella was taken last night, as I said, she was very distraught. She was so distraught that she had a panic attack and stopped breathing. Isabella is ok now, but she had to spend the night in the hospital."
"Why wasn't I informed of this, she's my daughter, I should have been contacted if she had to be in hospital."
Melissa sighed. "I understand your feelings Gabriella and they are completely valid, but unfortunately in the circumstances, authority felt that it was unwise to inform either parent, I'm sorry."
Gabriella was about to respond but the door opened and an officer walked in with Isabella. The little girl saw her mother and immediately ran from the officer's side into her mother's arms, despite everyone else's protests. "Mama." The toddler whimpered, tightening her grip around her mother's neck.
Gabriella cradled her daughter in her arms and kissed her head. "It's ok Baby Girl, Mommy's here, Mommy's got you." She pulled back slightly and wiped her daughter's tears. "Are you ok Bella?"
"Scawy in hospital, I miss Mommy."
"I know Angel, but it's ok now, Mommy's here. I missed you too, I missed you so much Baby."
Isabella looked at her mother and bit her lip. "Bella stay with Mommy, I'll be a good girl."
Gabriella felt the lump form in her throat and she caressed her daughter's cheek. "You are a good girl Baby, you're a very good girl. This isn't a punishment Bella, they just have to make sure I'm good enough to be your mommy."
"Mommy's the best mommy."
She smiled at her daughter. "I'm glad Angel, we just have to make sure that everyone else thinks so."
Their moment was interrupted by the officer's voice. "Miss Montez, you aren't to be with this child until after the trial." He said as he grabbed Isabella's arm; the girl whimpered and tried to pull her arm away.
"Ok, ok, just give me another minute with her, I just want to calm her down." The officer nodded and stepped away. Gabriella turned back to Bella. "It's ok Baby Girl, you're ok." She reached behind her and grabbed the bear that she brought with her. "Look who I brought."
Isabella shook her head. "I don't want care bear, I want Mama."
She sighed, "I know you do Baby, I do too but we have to wait until after the trial. I know that you don't really understand but it has to happen. So do you want to cuddle with care bear while you can't be with Mommy?" The little girl nodded hesitantly and took the bear, clutching it to her chest. "Ok Baby Girl, you're ok. I love you Bella, love you so much."
"I love you Mama... cuddles?"
Gabriella hugged her daughter tightly and kissed her hair before releasing her. Melissa took Isabella away from the teenagers onto the other side of the courtroom... over to Ashton.
