This chapter is a re-write of S2.E20 What Is and What Should Never Be, part one.
Dean snapped, waking up from his sleep with a gasp. He was fighting a monster and suddenly, he woke up there, in a place he never saw before. He looked around the room, he saw a woman sleeping next to him on the bed, he could not see her face because she had a pillow on her head, but she was blonde and she was naked, wrapped up in a black sheet that contrasted with her bronzy body.
Dean sighed getting out of the bed, he did feel good because he could not remember what happened to him, he only remembered how he felt and that was fear, the memories of his fight with the djinn was vague. Dean also felt bad seeing that he slept with a woman he did not know, a woman that was not Josie, he was not sure of anything, he left her on the bed as he walked out to the living room.
Dean roamed the place, he felt that he was home, yet he never been to this small nice house before. He turned on the lights seeing the place clearer. Then, Dean pulled out his phone looking for Sam's number, he called his little brother.
"Dean?" Sam asked, answering his phone. "What's going on?"
"Sam!" Dean sighed in relieve hearing his brother's voice. "I don't know where I am."
"What? What happened?" Sam asked, sounding confused.
"Well, the jinn, it attacked me."
"The gin? You're drinking gin?"
"No, ass-hat, the jinn. The scary creature, remember? It put its hand on me, and then I woke up next to some hot chick."
"Who? You mean Josie?" Sam sighed; he was getting tired of the conversation with his brother.
"Josie? Josie is alive?" Dean gasped.
"You're drunk-dialing." Sam huffed, "Quit screwing around. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Sam, wait." Dean called but his brother hung up the phone. He sighed looking around, looking for clues he would know where he was, he checked out a few letters on the table, seeing that he was in Lawrence, Kansas, his hometown. "Lawrence? What the hell?" he exclaimed.
"Hey, Dean." Josie said walking out of her room, she was sleepy and still trying to put on her robe, but it keeps on slipping. "you can't sleep?" she yawned. Dean looked at her for a second before he rushed to hug her, squeezing her so hard. She laughed and hugged him back.
"I missed you so much!" Dean said, still hugging her tight. It was the first time he saw Josie in months, she went missing and until that moment no one knew if she was alive or not.
"Missed me?" she laughed, "Dude, we've been home for two days. Did you have a bad dream or something?"
"Yeah," he said pulling back from the hug looking into her eyes. "I had a very bad dream, that we were not together." Dean said and it made her hug him again, kissing his neck.
"That's too bad. Sorry about that baby." Josie said, as she gave him a small kiss on the lips. "Let's put you into bed and help you sleep." She smirked.
"I just wanna ask you something," Dean said, looking confused. "is my mom still around?"
"What? Your mom?" Josie asked, sitting on a chair yawning again. "Yeah sure, she lives nearby, five minutes from here."
"I have to see her!" Dean snapped, looking for his car keys.
"Dean, it's the middle of the night you can't do this. You'll scare her."
"I have to go, I'll call you." He added, kissing her forehead. Dean went to his mother's house. The past has changed, there was no demon attack and no fire. John died a year ago of a stroke, in his sleep. This was what Mary told her son, she was confused that he showed up like that and she tried to calm him down. After she made him a sandwich upon his request, Dean slept on the couch all night.
…
"Dean, wake up!" Josie called for Dean, waking him up as she patted his shoulder. "I seriously can't believe you slept like that." She laughed.
"Hey," Dean yawned waking up. "Josie," he smiled seeing her. "I came to see my mom."
"We all were gonna see your mom tomorrow babe, its her birthday. It wasn't necessary that you come and freak her out last night like that." Josie said, reaching for a coffee cup she bought on her way to Mary's. "Here, you need this."
"Yes, I do." Dean said grabbing the cup, taking a sip. "Why are you here?"
"Uh, to get you!" She said in a 'duh' kind of a tone. "We have an appointment with the doctor, then we are going to my parents. Please don't tell me you forgot?!" Josie rolled her eyes at him, "Dean seriously, you need to skip some of your booze time."
"I just need to shower real quick and I'll be ready." Dean said getting up, of course he did not remember any dates or knew Josie's parents were even alive. He did not want to upset her; he went with the flow.
"I got you clean clothes." She pointed at the table, where there was a small bag that had some of Dean's clothes. "I need you ready in ten minutes. I have to get to work."
"You said that you are going to your parents." Dean asked.
"Josie works with her parents, Dean! Did you fall on your head or something?" Mary said walking downstairs to them. "Good morning dear." She smiled at Josie, as both women hugged.
"Mornin' Mary."
Dean looked at them and he never felt as happy as he was in that moment. He felt at peace, that he had a life and that life was perfect right then. "Dean, are you going to stare at us for long?" Josie asked, pulling back from the hug with Mary, giving her one of the cups she got. "Mary, I got you the green tea latte you love."
"Thanks Josie," Mary took it and smiled. "Dean! Get up, you need to catch the doctor's appointment." She called, "you waited for this for a while now, don't ruin it."
"Okay, okay!" Dean said and went up stairs to change and shower. He did it as fast as he could, hearing his mother and his girlfriend chatting and laughing downstairs. "I'm ready." He smiled walking to the living room, Josie got up smiling seeing him.
"Great, two more minutes and I was going to go up and grab you like an idiot." She teased him, then she got a file from her bag. "Mary, this is the final draft for the event tomorrow. If you need any changes, please tell me before the end of the day." Josie said in a semi-formal tone.
"Thank you, Josie," Mary smiled and took the file from Josie, "you know I trust your taste, no need for me to see this."
"Don't trust my taste that much." Josie said and turned looking at Dean, who was confused, as usual. "anyway, we have to go now." She got up looking at her watch. "Shit, we are already late."
"Go, good luck honey." Mary smiled and waved at them, Josie rushed to the door and Dean followed, after he smiled at his mom and waved to her, he wanted to stay more but Josie was in a rush and he had so many questions.
Both Josie and Dean got outside, both their cars waiting by the house. "Let's take my car, we will take your car home when we are done, okay?" she asked, already walking to her car, "its faster and we will get some stuff on our way, no way your car will be enough."
"Hey!" Dean objected, she smirked at him knowing he does not like when she hates on his car. Both got into her car as she started driving fast. "Can I ask a few questions with you snapping at me?"
"Sure."
"What do you do for a living exactly?"
"Dude, you did fall on your head, yeah?" she laughed. "I work with my mom; how could you forget that. She has a catering business and now we do small parties and some weddings."
"Oh, what about your dad?"
Josie sighed shaking her head. "He helps us, plus his composing business," Dean nodded, it was not far off from what Josie told him before, only more advanced. "Dean, we can skip the whole doctor thing if you are going to freak out already." She sighed, sounding disappointed.
"What do you mean?" he asked, confused.
"I mean we agreed we wanna try and have a baby, but if you are having second thoughts or cold feet then we can wait, I don't want you to freak out and forget all about me and the baby."
Dean took a moment to take the new information in, realizing that Josie was not only his girlfriend, she was his wife. Looking at her hand, he saw the wedding ring, remembering he saw one photo with both of them as she wore white and both their families around, he was shocked last night he did not process everything, only now seeing the ring and hearing about the baby.
"I love you Josie!" Dean told her suddenly, "I love you so much, and I'm sorry if I didn't say it sooner." He confessed.
"Okay, mister sensitive." She smiled. "Loving me has nothing to do with the baby. I get it if you still want to wait, we only been married for two years."
"No!" Dean said, "I want you to be happy." He said and she smiled looking at him for a second before focusing on the road.
"Okay, great, but I want you to be happy too, and a bit responsible. No more excessive drinking, you are forgetting shit."
"Okay, I won't drink." He promised her, he knew that drinking was not the real reason why he does not remember, but he agreed with her anyway, he wanted her to stay calm.
"Yeah, if I don't get to drink no one will!" she teased, Josie kept driving in silence as Dean did not take his eyes off her the whole time. Twenty minutes later they arrived at the doctor's office, right on time for their appointment. It did not take long until they walked out with the results, Josie looked disappointed.
"Its okay, he said everything is fine, we will keep trying, it's the fun part." Dean said, holding her near him. She sighed and nodded.
"Yeah, we will keep trying." She said, still disappointed looking down. "Can you drive? I don't feel like driving."
"Sure." He said taking the keys from her. "Babe, we have each other, we will get through anything. I love you and I will never let you go."
Josie smiled hearing Dean saying that, she got closer to him as they walked outside. Dean was driving this time around; Josie had a few errands to do and he was helping her. As Josie texted both their mothers to tell them the results, she was not pregnant, not yet. It took them over two hours to be done, then they drove to Josie's mom, a house Dean never saw before.
"Nice house." Dean exclaimed seeing the fancy house, Josie laughed, and both walked into the house carrying the stuff they bought.
"Hello Dears." Josie's mom greeted them cheerfully, Josie smiled and handed what she was carrying to her mother's assistant.
"Hi Mom," she greeted, sounding disappointed, Dean smiled and said nothing, he also handed what he had to the assistant. Amie, Josie's mom went to hug her daughter.
"Awww, Josie, baby, don't be like that, you are trying." She said comforting her. "Plus, more time to have fun. Or what, Dean?"
Dean laughed a little and nodded, he checked Amie seeing her for the first time. He never saw any of Josie's parents before, he was not sure if that was how she really looked like or that was only in his mind. Amie looked a lot like Josie, only older, also Amie had brown hair and green eyes, unlike her daughter who was blonde with hazel eyes. He could see the resemblance still; Josie's mother only was about twenty plus years older.
"I had you when I was too young, no regrets but you still have a lot to do, enjoy it and don't focus on the negatives." Josie's mother told her.
"Mom don't start with the you are too young broken record," Josie huffed and went to sit down.
"You are too young!" Dean heard a man's voice from behind. "Hello Dean." The older man said, it was Eric, Josie's father.
"Hello sir." Dean said getting the man, shaking hands with him. "What's wrong?"
"I'm not pregnant yet." Josie told him, getting up to kiss her dad and hug him. "and mom, as usual, started with the whole you are too young blah blah."
"Don't be a mean girl." Her mom asked walking into the kitchen.
"Josie, don't talk to your mother like that, maybe you are old enough to have your own children, but you are not old enough to be rude to your mother." Eric scolded his daughter.
"Fine, I'm sorry." Josie said, as Dean could not help laughing a loud laugh. "what's so funny Dean?" Josie asked him, looking angry.
"You just got your ass whopped!" He laughed, while Josie's father smiled walking out after his wife. "Having your parents made you a whole different person." He mumbled but she did not hear him.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing, take it easy." He smiled. "Tell me, what are we going to do for the rest of the day?"
"I don't know," she sighed, "I'm not in a very good mood, I think I will take the rest of the day off, you do whatever you want."
"I wanna be with you!" Dean told her, getting closer to hug her. "Tell me what you want, and we will do it." He said pressing a small kiss of her cheek.
"Let's go home,"
"We will, but its still early, we can go grab some breakfast first. What do you say?"
"Okay!" she shrugged. "Let me just say sorry real quick, I don't want my mom to be upset, then we can leave."
Later that day, Josie and Dean went back to their place after they had breakfast together, then they went shopping and walked a little, to blow off some steam. Dean was trying to get as much time as he could with her. He forgot everything about the monster he was hunting for a few hours, he only focused on how he was living his best life. Being married to Josie, his mother and brother were fine. Josie even told him that Sam was coming into town with his girlfriend for Mary's birthday.
"Listen, I'm gonna wear a nice dress, and for the sake of matching colors, I already got you a nice shirt for tomorrow." Josie said walking into their house.
"Okay, I don't mind." Dean was happy his idea worked and going out made Josie's mood better.
"Now," she said turning around to face him. "Because you handled my shit and helped me to be in a better mood, I will reward you." She smirked and grabbed his hands walking into their bedroom.
…
"Wow, I really missed this." Dean said, rolling over next to Josie who giggled.
"Dude, we just had sexy yesterday, when did you miss it?" she kept on laughing. Dean looked at her with a sad smile, he remembered his past reality, when Josie was gone and how much he missed being with her, her voice, her smell, even their arguments. Dean regretted everything he never said to her, he regretted that he did not show her as much love as she deserved, his fears of losing his closed ones never allowed him to stay committed, he was always afraid if he ended up with someone, Josie or else, they would get hurt because of his line of work, like what happened with his mother. That new reality, with no monsters and no hunting life made sense, he didn't have those issues, and that was why he ended up with the woman he loved, settled down, married and was ready to start his own family.
"Yohooo," Josie called, still laughing. Getting up from her bed, putting on a sleeping shirt, with AC/DC logo. "Dude, you've been so weird today." She added getting into bed again, Dean opened his arms and she snuggled closer to him, they were silent for a few minutes until he started to talk.
"Josie, how did we meet?" he asked, and she looked at him in shock, "I didn't forget," he defended himself. "I just wanted to hear it from you." She smiled and snuggled closer to him, pressing a kiss to his chest.
Josie took a deep breath, sighing, she started telling Dean the story of how they met. "I wanted to fix my car, and I went to many guys who asked for so much money and just wanted to screw me over." She laughed a little. "then, a friend of mine suggested that I visit your workshop, they said your dad was THE best, you remember my car, that pretty old thing, it was my dad's old car, a gorgeous blue 67 Shelby Acapulco, it was a beauty. But it was a bitch of a car and not so many guys can handle it, just like me!"
"Tell me about it." Dean laughed kissing her head, holding her tighter. "what happened then?"
"I called and some guy answered telling me John was not around, but I can bring the car anyway, so I did." She smiled looking at him. "this guy was you of course, and you kept flirting with me the whole damn time, and you kept my car way too long, I mean for a pro, you sucked. You kept on telling me your dad must take a look and all, but you were lying." Josie laughed, "you just wanted me to keep on coming to the shop. When your dad came back, he told me the car was already fixed and gave it back to me, you called me that night asking me out remember?"
"Yeah," Dean lied. He did not remember anything, he wanted to.
"I said no first, and I yelled at you because you lied to me, but I eventually said yes. You were such a playboy then,"
"That so?" Dean smirked and she nodded. "I bet you didn't take much in my hands."
"Six months!" Josie said proudly. "It took me six-months Dean, you were dying." She giggled, in amuse. "I made you meet my parents first, before anything, you still tell me you don't know how I made you do this."
"Smart girl, you tamed me huh?" Dean laughed, enjoying the moment, trying to make it last as longer as he could.
"I knew you were the one, and I didn't wanna risk it." Josie said, then she kissed him, "and I was right." Dean kissed her harder, holding her, "Dean, my bones." She laughed kissing back. "I love you baby!"
"I love you too, Josie."
