The next few days spent in New York City were quite amazing. They went to the zoo the next day and they had dinner thanks to Maura in the Empire State Building. Then the day before New Year's Eve they went to the National Museum of Science and History. Had dinner at a cute little bistro with the best sandwiches in New York according to their sign in the window. Jane was quite pleased by how much they would put on her sandwich. She agreed that it was one of the best.

Now it was New Year's Eve and they were lounging around in bed, Jane curled up against Maura, who had a little bit of the sniffles. "I don't get sick Jane. I take the proper percussions so this doesn't happen," she sighed, drinking some Orange juice Chad had brought up. She was thankful for their really kind room service man. He was always readily available for his favorite guests, Maura was very moved by his job performance. She thinks it was because they actually treated him like a person and not a slave. She couldn't understand how people could be so rude around the holidays.

"I know babe, but it just happens," Jane stroked Maura's hair. "Good thing we can see Times Square from our location, we don't have to go be surrounded by other people, just think how many other people out there are sniffling and sneezing in a tight squeezed place."

Maura frowned just thinking about that. "Jane, I really don't want to think about that right now. I'm already upset we have to rearrange our plans."

Jane stroked Maura's cheek. "I told you how okay it was babe, Chad will bring us up our dinner and champagne, maybe some BlackBerry Brandy that stuff is great when you have a cold. I mean sure your throat is kind of scratchy and you feel like shit but I'm still here with you. We're here together and I honestly don't mind not going into a crowded street just to watch a ball drop. Plus the sound of your voice is hella sexy right now," she wiggled her eyebrows and Maura rolled her eyes.

"You just had to throw that last remark out there, didn't you?"

"When you are feeling like shit all you need is a little confidence booster and reminder that you are still hot no matter how you're feeling."

Maura looked up and smiled, "Well thanks. For the compliment. So what are your hopes and dreams for the new year?"

"Well I hope to have a beautiful wedding with my beautiful bride to be. Start our married life together and go from there. Oh and I already have an idea for our honeymoon, I figured I'd surprise you with that if I can make it come true."

"A secret honeymoon location, interesting..." Maura looked at Jane and smiled. "Anything you looking forward to like professionally?"

Jane shrugged, "Not really, I mean I enjoy what I do, what else is there? You're not trying to make me switch professions are you?"

Maura laughed and shook her head, "No, I'll leave that job to your mother."

Jane rolled her eyes, "Yeah, she should just be glad I can provide for my family. So you haven't told me your goals for the New Year."

"I mean I'm already the Chief Medical Examiner, I of course am very excited to be married to you, I never imagined my life as a wife before. I don't see much changing in my life. I guess we're both sort of comfortable with where we are at right now. Well minus, you know..." Maura sighed and Jane knew what she meant.

"Minus our parent problems," Jane sighed. "I don't think I'll make much progress with my Pop, and well Hope seems stuck in her ways, Paddy is incarcerated, Constance is still..." Jane paused. "I'm sure she might be okay with us, but you know I'm not particularly fond of her. And just God... no offense but your parent situation makes mine seems, unimportant. So I guess it's safe to say our only parent situation is Ma. Imagine that, I always grew up thinking my mom was odd and beyond overbearing, and that once I turned 18 she would be out of my life forever, but she's the best parental figure we got."

Maura just sat, listening to Jane talk, "Yeah my life is definitely more, you know..." Maura couldn't think of the word.

"Fucked up," Jane nodded, finishing Maura's words. "Well at least we have each other and the family we do have. I guess that cancels out all the bad, wouldn't you say?"

Maura nodded snuggling closer to Jane, "I would think so yes. Thanks for wanting to be a part of me and my life."

"No problem, I love you Maura I would do absolutely anything for you. So 2013, wow that year sounds sort of unlucky."

"Don't sound so superstitious Jane," Maura rolled her eyes before snuggling closer to Jane, resting her head on her chest. Jane held Maura close and she didn't want to ever let go.

Korsak's day has been pretty uneventful at work, Angela went to go pick up extra hours at the Dirty Robber it being New Year's Eve and all they needed extra hands. He would have helped but he had work to do unfortunately. Crime was surprisingly low for the holidays but that was a very good thing he reminded himself.

Sean Cavanaugh came out of his office and approached Vince. There was nobody else around so Sean thought they didn't need to talk in his office. "Vincent Korsak just the man I wanted to see."

Korsak looked up in concern, "Did Stanley put some sort of happy juice in your coffee this morning?"

"Nobody likes a smart ass Vince."

"I don't know sir, people seem to like me a lot more than they like you," he leaned back in his chair and Sean just stared at the man.

"Don't make me change my mind on the news I had for you."

Korsak sat up a little straighter, "Okay now I'm really concerned, what did you want to talk about?"

"Job opportunity, for you. I'm relocating to Dade County PD."

"Really? Florida? How is that opportunity for me?" he asked, wondering why he wouldn't just say what he wanted to say.

"I admire all the hard work you do and I know we had a little trouble with the whole Angela situation I had my doubts but you seem to be doing alright. But I know you Vince and well if you are interested I was going to ask if you wanted to take the lieutenant's exam. To take my place when I relocate in a few months."

Korsak was surprised by the offer Sean had given him, he leaned back in his chair again. "How long can I take to think about it?"

"About a week," Sean told him. "I honestly think you're the best fit for the job."

"I'm very honored you came to me for this opportunity. Once I make up my mind I'll let you know."

Cavanaugh nodded, "Be sure that you do." Korsak watched as Sean went back into his office, he pulled out his cell phone. He knew Jane was probably occupied with Maura but he just decided to send her a quick text. Jane man, do I have some news for you. I know your busy with the Doc, hope you girls are having fun. me and Angela still picking you up from the airport tomorrow? Get back to me whenever you are free. Thanks.

Korsak was not expecting a reply from Jane back so quickly, he was more surprised when her number pulled her, alerting him it was a phone call. He answered his phone, "Well when I said call me whenever you're free I didn't know that you would respond so quickly."

"Yeah well, Maura is taking a nap, and before you say something smart, she's feeling a little under the weather."

"Wait, you're telling me that the Doc is sick?" Korsak was confused, "I thought she never got sick."

"That's what she said, so what's the news you got for me? You know the whole point of this conversation."

"Well Sean asked me if I wanted to take the lieutenant's exam."

"Wait, really?" Jane asked in complete surprise. "That is news, where is he going?"

"Relocating to Dade County in a few months, he said I have a week to decide if I want to take the exam."

"Take it Korsak, you know you'd be a better lieutenant than he is, hell we all know that for a fact. Even Cavanaugh himself or else he wouldn't have offered it to you."

"You know that would mean we couldn't be partners anymore, that's why I wanted you to be the first to know. It's a much bigger decision than you would think," Korsak slumped his shoulders.

"Well you have a week and that sure is something you should consider doing Korsak, and I mean you're going to marry my Ma, so you shouldn't worry about not being in my life. Just think about it, I know you think the world of me, the feeling is very much mutual, but this is your career we're talking about. Just take the chance, you still have to you know, pass the test anyways."

Korsak took in what Jane said and nodded, "Yeah you're right, just feeling a little bit sentimental is all, I guess. You saying you have doubts I'll pass the test?"

"I didn't technically say that," Jane laughed. "So our flight should be in at 3 PM tomorrow, can you and Ma handle that?"

"Yeah I'm sure we can manage. So how has the trip been?"

"It's been pretty great, we've totally bonded I think we're closer than we've ever been. How's everyone doing in Boston?"

"Everything is going alright, I think Frost really misses you, he's been kind of down the past couple of days. Your brothers and Angela seem to be doing okay, sure your mother probably is paranoid of you girls being in a city like the Big Apple, but I know you guys could handle yourselves."

"Hey, if you do become the big shot Lieutenant, maybe I can get Frost to be my partner, I'm sure that will happily cheer him up, just don't spite me and pair me up with Detective Crowe, I've had enough of him."

Korsak laughed, "I'll keep that in mind, if I become Lieutenant. Anyways, I must admit I really miss you being here, can't wait until you come back."

"I mean I'm the only Rizzoli that's always so tolerable to be around, of course you miss me."

"Come on now, give your mother some credit."

"Don't tell me what to do, you ain't my step daddy yet," Jane chuckled.

"I will be soon, can you believe that? You get to be my step child now."

"You'll be lucky to have me, I don't know about the other ones. But I should get going, I think Maura has rested well enough, can you believe I miss her and she's right fuckin' next to me?"

"Yeah I believe it, you have it bad Jane Rizzoli. You girls have fun and I hope that she feels better. I'll tell everyone that you miss them. See you in 2013."

"Yeah, don't get too wasted tonight, see you next year, step daddy Korsak," she teased before hanging up the phone.

Korsak looked at his phone for a moment and shook his head, "Hmm, step daddy Korsak," he laughed at Jane's words.

Frankie and Frost entered the precinct and seen Korsak laughing. "Um Korsak, are you alright there?" Frankie looked at the older man in concern.

Korsak didn't know he was being watched, he looked up and stopped laughing, "Yeah, I just got off of the phone with Jane. She called me step daddy Korsak and I just found it amusing is all."

"A little too amusing. What did you guys talk about?" Frankie went to go sit at his desk.

"Just some stuff, she says she misses you guys," Korsak told them, he didn't know if he wanted them to know about what Cavanaugh requested, he didn't want too many people knowing. It will definitely be hard to keep from Angela, but he knew she would make a big fuss about it before a decision was even made.
