Hey guys! This was kind of just a quick filler chapter since I'm going by episode at this point. The last episode of season one will be one of the last chapters, maybe the last one if I do it right. It's been a long road but I'm not quite finished yet. I hope you enjoy!
I own nothing from DC.(obviously)
Robin perched on top of a low crane near the back of one of Gotham's shipping docs. They had intel on a load of heroine coming in tonight. Two of Gotham's lesser gangs had apparently teamed up and were splitting the shipment. He had been pretty surprised to hear of the teamup, rival gangs didn't typically work very well together. They must have figured they stood a better chance of making off with some of the drugs if there were more of them. There were about thirty goons spaced out over a small clearing between shipping crates. The head honchos were probably discussing who got what, and the load was in a shipping crate in front of them.
"In position." Robin whispered into his comm link.
"In position." Catwoman echoed.
There was a brief pause before Batman's voice could be heard over the comm, "Deploy."
Robin smirked and moved stealthily off of the crane and onto the ground. He moved in between the crates quickly just as Catwoman threw a few smoke bombs and the action began.
He cackled as he joined the fight. He took out three men on the edge of the group in about two minutes and he heard his mentor and Catwoman doing the same. He heard and saw gunfire but it didn't scare him as he threw birdarangs to disarm as many men as possible. When their guns were knocked out of their hands he flipped, kicked, and punched his way through the gang.
The fight lasted only about ten more minutes and the gang was on the ground either unconscious or groaning and cradling various injuries.
As per usual Catwoman and Robin began zip tying the perps while Batman gathered evidence and called Gordon. They lingered over the downed gangs and investigated some more as they waited. Batman showed Robin the evidence that he had collected as he sometimes did when they had time. Robin knew how to do it on his own but Batman liked to refresh him when he got the chance, after all there was never any room for mistakes here.
Sirens wailed and grew in volume as they got closer to the wharf. Officers stepped out and gathered up the gang members as Gordon made his way over to Batman and Catwoman who stood at the edge of the clearing. Robin crouched over them on one of the bigger shipping containers and paid close attention to the conversation.
"Well, you made quick work of these guys." Gordon told them as he scratched his scruffy chin.
Batman remained silent and handed him the various bags of evidence he had collected.
"There were two different gangs here tonight. They were going to split the heroine shipment. This could be something that occurs more often now. More gangs might try to team up in an effort to be stronger and have more men."
Gordon sighed and rubbed his face, "That's not good. If they're teaming up that's a problem in itself but they are more likely to have falling outs that way too. I hope this doesn't lead to more gang wars or gang violence in general."
Batman nodded once, "We'll keep an eye out."
Batman made to turn around and Gordon looked up at Robin, "Hey kid, where you been lately? Seems like I don't see much of you nowadays."
Robin smirked at him, "Awe, did you miss me commish?"
Gordon rolled his eyes then smiled, "Well you're easier to deal with than the big guy at times."
Gordon looked meaningfully at the Bat who had turned to listen to their conversation.
Robin smiled at him, "I've been busy."
Gordon laughed, "You got a school play or something?"
Catwoman cracked a smile at that while Robin rolled his eyes under the mask.
"No, nothin like that." Robin smirked.
Gordon waved his hand, "Alright kid, keep your secrets."
Robin laughed and followed Batman and Catwoman back into the inner city. They still had a few hours of patrol left.
They spent those few hours running over rooftops and doing what they did best. They stopped four muggings and Robin swooped down from his line in time to save a cat from getting run over by a car. Selina had patted him on the head and taken the cat from him. They stopped by one of her animal shelters and she broke into her own building to drop it off. At the end of their patrol they all climbed into the batmobile and headed off toward home.
"Zatanna has seemed better lately. She's had even more drive and she's been more focused." Selina announced and then glanced at Robin, "Do you have anything to do with that?"
The feline smiled at him when he shrugged and nodded, "She finally talked to me about her father turning to fate on Thanksgiving."
Catwoman seemed surprised, " That was only a few days ago, she's made a lot of progress in a few days."
"She wants to make her dad proud." He told her and she nodded.
"That makes sense." Catwoman said and ruffled his hair. "I'm glad you talked to her and proud that you made such a difference, Kitten. You're growing up and I know you're going to continue to make us proud."
Robin beamed at her and she leaned over to kiss the top of his head. "Thanks, Catwoman."
He flashed Batman a surprised look when he too ruffled Robin's hair. Then he smiled at his mentor and leaned back into his seat, they fell into a comfortable silence for the remainder of the trip.
They got back to the Batcave at around three in the morning and Robin changed out of his uniform and took a shower before heading out. He paused to say goodnight to Bruce and Selina as they were making their way to the showers. Then he headed up towards the main house. He grabbed a granola bar and water from the kitchen before ascending the stairs. He was surprised to see Zatanna's door open and the light on so he passed his room to lean on her door frame. She was talking and laughing to someone on her computer screen.
She noticed him and smiled wider, "Robin! You're back?"
He smiled and nodded, "You talking to Arty?"
She nodded and looked down at the screen when Dick heard, "It's still really weird that you live with him."
Zatanna laughed and shrugged, "Maybe a bit."
"I still can't believe what you guys found out about Tornado. It's kind of creepy".
Dick raised an eyebrow as Zatanna agreed.
"I'll tell you about it in a minute." Zatanna promised him.
He nodded and came forward to sit where the camera wouldn't see him. Artemis and Zatanna said their goodbyes. Artemis added in an awkward, "Umm bye, Robin."
Dick laughed, "Bye, Arty."
Zatanna ended the call and closed her laptop before patting the spot beside her.
Dick smiled and scooted up on the bed so that he could sit next to her.
"So what's all this about RT?" He asked her.
She launched into a story about how she had gone into RT's apartment with Megan and Connor. She told them how they had found an android body that looked like a human. And she ended with the part about her making the android pants.
Dick laughed with her, " Well at least you didn't die of boredom."
Zatanna laughed, "We almost did!"
She smiled at him, "How was your night?"
Dick told her about the drug bust and talking to Gordon. Then he talked about the muggings and she laughed when he told her about the cat.
"Well it sounds like you guys got a pretty eventful night. Good job." She smiled at him again.
"Thank you." He grinned at her and then stretched.
"I should probably go to bed." He told her and stood.
Zatanna smiled and sat on and then tugged his arm till he sat down on the edge of her bed again. Dick let her pull him into a quick hug before he shot her a smile and headed to his room.
