Scarlett Hale, 15.
District 8 Female.
Scarlett woke with a start. There was dead silence which she wasn't used to in the mornings. Usually, she awoke to one or multiple of her siblings screaming but today there was silence. She almost missed the little snot goblins, she would rather be at home with them than be here. Her mentor, Jillar, knocked lightly on the door.
"Scarlett, time to get up." She called out softly. Scarlett pulled herself out of bed slowly, and made her way to the door, opening it to see Jillar standing there.
"Time for breakfast." Jillar said, gesturing to the dining room. Scarlett nodded and followed her out to the table. Sat at the table was the other mentor Ollie, and he looked up as they arrived.
"Oh, I should probably go get Saxony shouldn't I?" He said, looking up from his book. Jillar nodded and he stood, walking off to the are where their rooms were. Scarlett slid into one of the seats and turned to Jillar who took her place next to her.
"What should I try and do today Jillar?" Scarlett asked, biting into an apple.
"Well, you did weapons training yesterday right? Maybe just stick to that, continue to try and get good at a weapon." Scarlett nodded, and she took another bite of the apple, as Saxony and Ollie arrived back to the table. Scarlett didn't want to ally with her District partner, he freaked her out too much. Really she didn't care for allies unless somebody came to her she wouldn't have any. They all ate in silence, and as Scarlett finished, she stood to go back to her room and get dressed. Just as the morning before, a pink training outfit was laid out on the bed. All the districts had colours, and Eights was pink. She pulled the outfit on, and made her way out of the room towards the elevator. She waited for Saxony to arrive which he did soon after, and they stepped into the elevator. She waved goodbye to their mentors, as the doors slid closed.
Scarlett stepped up to the archery station, grabbing a smaller bow off the rack. It seemed more manageable then some of the larger ones, and she slung a quiver of arrows over her shoulder, stepping up to the shooting range. Two ranges over was Armitage, he was practicing with a crossbow. She pulled an arrow from the quiver, nocking it in the string. She pulled the string back, and let the arrow loose. It flew straight, hitting the dummy in the chest. She jumped back in surprise at actually hitting anything, and the trainer nodded in approval.
"You're doing it right, just place your feet a little more apart." The trainer called out from across the range. Scarlett nodded, slid her feet a little more apart and pulled another arrow from the quiver. She nocked it, drawing the string back, and let another loose, this time aiming for the head of the target. It hit it in the neck area which Scarlett supposed was close enough. She continued practicing, only getting better until she felt a presence behind her. She turned, and the girls from Eleven and Four were standing behind her, the girl on the left, Briony sporting a black eye.
"Would you like to ally with us?" Briony asked, Molly, nodding in agreement. Scarlett figured it couldn't hurt to have some allies.
"Okay, sure." Scarlett said. Briony and Molly looked at each other and nodded.
Keenan Briggan, 15.
District 10 "Female"
Keenan picked up the small knife in his hand. How hard could it be to learn how to throw a knife? Hard apparently, since Keenan had spent the entire morning trying to figure it out. Even with the trainer's guidance, he had yet to hit something. Still, he had hit the target a few times, never exactly where he wanted to but still, he hit it. The boy from One in the next station over made it look easy, hitting the target again and again. Still, Keenan practiced on, hoping to get as good as he could in the short span of three days. He returned the knives he was using to the nearby rack and for a change of scenery made his way over to the poisonous plants station.
"I'm guessing you're here for the poisonous plants station." The instructor said, smiling slightly. Keenan nodded yes.
"Please step onto that platform there, you can sit if you want." The trainer said, pointing to a platform in front of a large screen. Keenan did so, sitting on the platform looking up at the large screen in front of him.
"It's gonna show you some poisonous berries and plants and then change to a screen with non-poisonous ones. You'll have two minutes to memorize and then the next screen will come up, giving you two more minutes to memorize the non-poisonous category. Once the time is up, they will be scattered and you must sort them back into their places." Keenan nodded again and turned to face the screen, the first screen appearing.
"Lunch time!" The head trainer shouted out. Keenan stopped and stood from the platform, stretching out as he walked towards the cafeteria. As he stepped into the cafeteria line, he thought about how much this reminded him of home, of Jason. Keenan shuddered, he didn't miss that place, but he did miss Jason. He was glad Jason wasn't here with him no matter how much he missed him though. Keenan arrived to the front, and grabbed a tray, moving towards a nearby empty table He slid into a chair, fully expecting to spend this lunch alone, much like he had yesterday and how he would most likely spend tomorrow's lunch. That was until two people sat at a nearby table. The girl from Three and the boy from Six were sitting together, talking. The boy, Harry caught Keenan's eye and waved for him to come over, which he did picking up his tray and moving to their table, sliding into a chair there.
"What do you want?" Keenan said, looking slightly confused.
"We want you to ally with us." Janna said, Harry nodding in agreement. Keenan furrowed his brow, looking even more confused.
"You want me? For your alliance?" Keenan said in almost disbelief. Harry nodded, replying.
"Yeah, you seem decent enough at what we've seen you doing so why not extend the offer." Keenan nodded.
"I'm in." Keenan said, grinning at Harry who grinned back.
Briony Payne, 18.
District 11 Female.
Briony leaned against the wall, watching as her ally, Molly ran the agility course. Molly rubbed the back of her head, and she winced slightly, it still being tender after her head was bounced off the floor. Since then, Jade had been followed by at least one peacekeeper at any given time. The doctor had told her to take it easy for today, so Briony had been primarily watching as her allies did things. She did however drop by the knots tying station, which she had quite enjoyed. Molly hit the end of the course, and jumped down from the raised platform, making her way over to Briony.
"Did you see that? That was my best time yet!" Molly said excitedly, wiping the sweat off her forehead. Briony handed her a water bottle which she took gratefully, gulping down half the bottle in a few seconds.
"Hard work isn't it?" Briony said, in reference to the course. Molly nodded.
"How's Scarlett doing?" Molly asked in response. Scarlett in question was at the archery station again, and she was getting better at it from what Briony could see.
"She seems to be doing fine, she's still at the archery station." Briony replied. Molly nodded, thinking for a moment.
"Do you think we should try and add somebody else to the alliance?" Molly said. Briony wasn't sure what exactly to think about it, but she figured another ally couldn't hurt, especially not with the fact the Careers may be out to get Molly after she turned down allying with them.
"I doubt that could hurt. Who are you thinking of?" Briony said. Molly nodded and pointed at the girl from Twelve, Iara.
"What about her?" Molly asked. Briony had been watching her make her way around the various stations, and she seemed competent enough.
"Alright, let's go ask her." Briony said. The two made their way over to Iara, who was currently at the shelter building station. As they approached, she stopped what she was doing and she turned to look at them.
"Whaddya you two want?" Iara asked, kicking a stick out of the way.
"We're here to ask you if you'd consider allying with us. We've seen you working and you seem pretty good at the stations you've been to." Molly said. Iara pondered her words for a moment, and then shook her head yes.
"Sure, I'll join you guys. Is there anybody else in the alliance?" Iara said. Briony nodded at this.
"Yeah, Scarlett. She's over at the archery station." Briony said, pointing Scarlett out who turned to give them a little wave before going back to her archery.
"Ah, I see. Sounds good to me." Iara turned back to her shelter, and Molly and Briony turned to leave, heading back to the agility course.
"She seems interesting huh?" Molly said. Briony nodded in agreement.
"Interesting but harmless yeah." Briony said.
"If the rest of the alliance goes downhill, we should make our escape together. We could stick it out on our own." Molly said. This slightly surprised Briony, hearing that coming from Molly, but she wasn't surprised. They both knew the Careers would likely be out for their blood, for one reason or another.
"Good idea. Partners." Briony stuck her hand out to Molly who shook it.
"Partners." Molly said, with a slight smile. Out of every tribute she'd allied with so far, Briony trusted Molly the most. She didn't exactly know why, but she did.
Cressian "Cress" Vanderhall, 13
District 4 Male
Cress picked up another spear, throwing it at the dummy. It hit right in the center of its chest. Cress turned to the rest of the Careers, grinning.
"Did you guys see that?" Cress asked enthusiastically. Sarmiento looked over from the conversation he was having with Matthias and gave him a thumbs up. Cress was disappointed they didn't include him in their conversations, but he knew they didn't like him very much, not being the designated volunteer and all. They all thought he was useless, he would die early, but Cress was determined to win. He picked up another spear and pulled his arm back, throwing it into the dummies head.
"Alright Cress, you can come back now." Matthias called out. Cress dropped the spear he was holding and scurried over to the group.
"What were you guys talking about?" Cress asked. Jade looked at Scipia who looked at Matthias who looked at Sarmiento, and eventually, Sarmiento replied.
"Just uh, older Career stuff." Sarmi said, Jade nodding in agreement.
"Well I'm a Career, why can't I know." Cress replied.
"You aren't much of a Career pipsqueak." Jade said, rolling her eyes.
"At least I didn't go and attack another tribute." Jade looked outraged at Cress' words.
"At least I didn't volunteer for the attention!" Jade said at an almost shout.
"I didn't do it for the attention, I'm just as capable as you!" Cress replied in a definite shout. Jade made a face at this.
"Alright, break it up you two." Sarmiento said, stepping between them. Jade turned and stormed off towards the sword fighting station.
"What? You didn't need to do that!" Cress said. He knew he could've handled the situation himself, he didn't need another tribute stepping in to deal with it.
"Well if I hadn't of, Jade probably would've ripped your head off." Scipia snickered at this, and Sarmiento shot her a look over his shoulder which made her stop.
"So? I could take her in a fight." Cress said, his tone obviously annoyed.
"You could take her in a fight?" Sarmi said, pointing at Jade, who was now beating the shit out of a dummy with a katana.
"I could yeah!" Cress replied. Scipia who was standing behind Sarmiento rolled her eyes and grabbed Matthias by the arm and dragged him off to do something.
"Just listen to me, okay? Try not to get on her bad side." Sarmiento said, placing a hand on Cress' shoulder.
"Why not? If she has a problem with me, she can have a problem with me, I don't care." Cress said, annoyed. Sarmiento gestured at Jade, who had just taken the head off the dummy.
"That's why. As soon as we get into those Games, I can't guarantee your safety." Sarmiento said. Cress thought he was being genuine, and since like any reasonable person who didn't want to be decapitated, he conceded.
"Alright, fine I'll try to be nice to her. It's not my fault if she's mean to me first though." Cress said. Sarmiento grinned slightly as he replied.
"She might not be that nice, but she'll be a good ally in the arena."
"Alright, training day two is over! Everyone head back to their floors." The head trainer called out. Sarmiento patted him on the shoulder and headed for a nearby elevator. Cress knew he would show them all he was just as capable, but that day was not today.
