Everything belongs to JK Rowling. If you are enjoying this, please drop me a review. Guess what Shakespeare play I studied for my exams lol
"Oh Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art – James why are we doing this?" Sirius said with a groan.
"culture. Plus, I really, really want to win." James said. Remus groaned. It was kind of irritating, James's obsession with the talent show. "why are you still practising, James? Anyway, couldn't you do it without Sirius?" Remus asked. He was slightly irritated at James, as he wouldn't let anyone do anything vaguely interesting.
"No! Lily said she'd only do the lines with the perfect person. So I have to be perfect." James said.
James was desperate to enter in the performance of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. As a special treat, Slughorn had announced a competition between the houses. A competition to see who could put on the best performance of a play. Slughorn had put Lily in charge of Gryffindors production.
Slytherin were doing king Lear, Hufflepuff were doing a midsummer nights dream, Ravenclaw were doing a winters tale.
Remus picked up his book.
There are many stories were death is the ending. Think of Romeo and Juliet, Frankenstein, Les Miserables, Macbeth. The fascination humans have with death is interesting. We fear death, that is undeniably true. And yet, we are, inescapably drawn to it. A tragedy for others is a show for us.
The truth is that humans crave to understand death, and, because they cannot, humans have a strange fascination with it. If something bad happens, we do not look away, knowing what we see may be harmful. We gaze towards it. We cannot act as though we are dying, we never die convincingly. Death is something that is more magic than magic, more certain than the sun rising, more dark than black, and yet, more of a show than a circus.
Remus shut his book, and looked up. Now James was re-enacting the death scene. "oh, true apothecary, thy drugs are quick, and thus with a kiss I die" he said. Remus watched him. He wasn't that bad a acting, but it was rather over the top.
Sirius, who had left the room while Remus was reading, stormed in angrily. "Guess who's playing Cordelia!" he said angrily. Remus and James shrugged as Peter said "Snivvelus?" Sirius scowled. "worse. Narcissa. How she got to play Cordelia is beyond me. she's not like Cordelia. Andromeda is more like Cordelia. Narcissa is more like one of Cordelia's bitchy sisters"
"right, so anyway," James interrupted. "I'll try out for Romeo, the tragic hero who marries Lily and then dies. Sirius, I think you should try out for Mercutio, the hot headed friend who starts the fight and is killed by Tybalt. Peter, you can audition for Tybalt. And Remus, I thought you should audition for Benvolio, the calm friend, the last one standing."
"i don't want to act the bad guy though, James." Peter said. "but if you play Tybalt… you'll get to best Sirius in a duel." James said. Peter cheered up. "what's the moral of the story?" asked Peter.
"i think its you should never fake your death. Or fight someone when your feeling angry." James replied. "that's right… never fake your death. Doing that, that's why they die."
"except Benvolio. All alone. The last of his friends standing."
