It was the last few hours of their holiday and Carla was stressing.
"Calm down love" Peter told Carla as she paced the villa lobby.
"I can't believe they are having the baby today, I am going to miss it"
"Carla we are getting on a plane in a few hours so you can meet the baby tomorrow"
"I know but he is the first sibling to have a baby, I am just happy and worried for them"
"Aiden will text you when the baby is here safely"
"I know"
"Come on let's get our baby ready for the flight home" Peter joked pointing at Haisley who was still in her bathing suit.
Carla laughed at Haisley who was laid on the sofa with her bathing suit and sunglasses on her head.
Aiden had text in the group chat that Emma had gone into labour. Everyone was a bit worried as she was a month early but the midwives were happy with how everything was going and the baby was at a good size. This couldn't help but worry Carla.
Peter had heard from Simon. He was excited for them to come home, he was busy with Leanne so he couldn't come with them. Peter was sure Leanne did it on purpose as they went on a caravan holiday with Toyah.
Peter knew that Toyah would have encouraged Leanne to go on the same week they were away. Simon wanted to go to Ibiza with Peter but he felt bad on his mum as she couldn't afford a luxurious holiday like Peter and Carla could.
When Haisley was ready, it was time to leave for the airport. They breezed through security and deposited their suitcases. Again Peter didn't let Carla carry or pull anything. Carla thought it was kind but she couldn't go through the whole pregnancy with him wrapping her in cotton wool.
"I don't want to go home" Haisley moaned.
"No one wants to go home when they have been on holiday but we have too, you have to start school soon" Carla told her.
Haisley groaned but she understood, she was very clever for her age.
The family sat in a restaurant in the airport waiting for their boarding number to be called.
"Carla, can we talk about something serious?" Peter asked cautiously.
"Of course" Carla said, she looked at Haisley then back at Peter.
"Don't worry she can hear this, but she is far too busy playing that thing to notice" It was true, Haisley hadn't looked up from her tablet for half an hour.
"Go on then, what is it?" Carla questioned.
"I was wondering if when we are home, we could maybe look for a place to live together?" Peter started "I know I live with you now but we are going to need somewhere bigger soon and I would like somewhere for Simon to stay and call home"
"I think that is a good idea, Simon should have somewhere to stay when he comes over, he is part of this family too"
Peter smiled at her "that's what I was thinking and we are going to need a n-u-r-s-e-r-y" Peter spelled it out so Haisley couldn't understand.
"Ok, we can settle back in at home and then we can have a look at what is available, but I want Haisley to be settled in school before we even think about moving"
"Yes, we don't want too much change for her" Peter agreed.
The family then boarded their flight home. It was a pleasant flight home, Haisley fell asleep, leaving Carla and Peter to have some chill time.
Before they knew it they were walking through their front door. It was evening time, meaning Carla put Haisley straight to bed.
There was a knock on the door. Carla opened it to see Johnny standing in front of her. He smiled and pulled her in for a hug.
"I have missed you" Johnny told her "did you have a good time?"
"It was amazing, how is Aiden and Emma? Any news?"
"The last I heard she was 6cm" Johnny told her "they are a little concerned that the baby is taking too long but they sent us all home to wait for news"
"Who was there?"
"We were all there" Johnny told her casually. Carla flashed Peter a look, they both knew that they would all be there when she gives birth again.
"Right, how were they?"
"Aiden was fine, nervous but fine" Johnny began "Emma was feeling as expected with your first baby"
"Scared stiff then" Carla said, remembering back to Haisley's birth.
"Is Haisley asleep?" Johnny asked.
Carla nodded.
Carla offered Johnny a drink and let him sit down, he asked all about the holiday and what they got up too.
"Johnny, I don't mean to be rude but I am exhausted, can we have a catch up tomorrow?" Carla asked.
"That is a great idea, let's have a family lunch tomorrow and celebrate the baby" Johnny said.
That was not exactly what Carla meant but she guessed that was the only way to get rid of him.
Once he was gone Carla and Peter went to bed, they were both exhausted from travelling with a four year old.
Throughout the night, Aiden and Emma had a little boy, Archie Johnny Connor.
The whole family was so excited to meet the new arrival but because he was a little early he had to stay in, besides Aiden didn't want to overcrowd him.
Aiden took to his first few hours of fatherhood well. As soon as he laid his eyes on his child his whole world changed. Emma was fantastic and did a good job but she was now worn out.
Everyone gathered in the bistro for celebratory drinks. It was a welcome home for Carla, Peter and Haisley as well as celebrating Archie.
"I want to hear all about your holiday" Michelle said, as Carla took a seat at the table.
Carla went to talk but was interrupted by Johnny.
"Here is a bottle of champagne to celebrate, everyone gets a glass, except you Peter" Johnny said, pointing at Peter.
He nodded and smiled.
"This is to wet baby Archie's head, I am so excited to have another grandchild"
Johnny passed out the glasses full with champagne, he handed one to Carla. She took it but placed it on the table, looking at Kate and Michelle.
Michelle quickly took it, replacing it with a glass of lemonade she had prepared earlier. She wanted to tell Johnny but she wanted to have her scan first to see that everything is ok.
"To Archie" Johnny raised his glass into the air. The whole family cheered to that.
The family spent their time catching up and talking about Archie. Aiden had sent pictures over on the group chat, letting them all know what he looked like.
"He looks just like Aiden did"
"Johnny, they all look like that when they are born" Carla laughed.
"I think it's about time you have another one" Johnny said after having a few to drink.
"Yeah, you are next aren't you?" Jenny slurred.
"Everytime we get together it's mentioned, Haisley can hear you guys you know" Carla scolded.
"Sorry Carla" Johnny said.
After a few more conversations Carla wanted to go. She had had enough of family fun day and baby talk.
"What's up Carla?" Peter asked, as they stepped through the door. Haisley ran through to her room, she had missed all of her toys since being on holiday.
"It's all the baby talk, the pressure"
"Carla, there's no pressure, you are already pregnant"
"What if something goes wrong?"
"Carla, nothing is going to go wrong" Peter said, placing his arms around her, pulling her in for a hug.
"You don't know that Peter"
"Love, we have the doctors appointment in the next couple of days and they will book us in for our scan"
Carla nodded.
"Then we will get to see our little baby and see that everything is ok" Peter comforted her.
Carla agreed with him but she still was worrying, when she was pregnant with Haisley she had that scare, Rob and Peter took her to the hospital but everything was fine. A few days later her whole world fell apart, when she found out about Peter's affair.
She didn't know if she could handle the stress of her world crashing again.
A few days later, it was the day of Carla's doctors appointment. They were going to the appointment then taking Haisley to meet her new cousin, who came home the day before.
Aiden didn't want a fuss but he wanted the first day Archie came home to be just them as a family. That's why he was letting everyone round the next day.
Emma had taken to motherhood like a duck to water. She was always maternal, so being a mother suited her.
"I am looking forward to seeing Archie today, mummy"
"So am I" Carla admitted. Carla was walking Haisley to Kates, so she could watch her whilst both Carla and Peter went to the doctor's appointment.
"I hope he likes me" Haisley said, not knowing what to expect from her baby cousin.
"I am sure he will love you"
They knocked on Kate's door "Auntie Kate" Haisley called.
"There is my favourite niece" Kate said, opening her door "come in"
Haisley and Carla walked in and took a seat on the sofa.
"Thank you for having her Kate"
"No worries, this appointment is important"
Kate and Carla spoke about Archie and Carla told Kate of their plans to move. Carla discussed her worry about Haisley starting school in the next couple of days.
Once they had finished their conversations, Carla noticed the time. She had to meet Peter in a few minutes.
"I will see you in a bit baby" Carla said to Haisley.
Kate pulled her sister in for a hug. She could tell she was slightly nervous. Carla was grateful for the hug but knew she would be fine as it was only a doctors appointment.
Over at the doctors Carla and Peter sat in the waiting room. There were many people in there but they were on time for their appointment.
Ali came out of the door, noticing them both sat there.
"What are you doing here?" Ali asked them. Carla panicked, she didn't want to tell him but she couldn't think of something else to tell him.
"I am just here for something to do with my drinking" Peter told him "I need to have these check ups"
"Ah ok" Ali believed him and got back to work.
"Thank you" Carla said, giving a long breath.
Behind the desk Toyah was sitting, waiting for her next patient. She noticed Peter as soon as he walked through the door, she was trying to figure out what they were here for. She heard what he said to Ali and knew that although some people do do that, Peter didn't.
"Carla Connor" the doctor called, the couple walked into the doctor's room hand in hand.
The doctor confirmed that Carla was indeed pregnant.
A little while later Carla and Peter appeared from the doctors room. They exited the building hand in hand with smiles on their faces.
Peter pulled Carla in for a hug, stood outside the doctors. He took her face into his hands by placing one each side of her head "I love you" he then placed a passionate kiss onto her lips.
The couple were overjoyed at their news.
Carla pulled away first "come on, lets get Haisley and meet our nephew" she took his hand again, walking towards their daughter.
"Mummy" Haisley called from across the road "I saw you kissing daddy"
Kate laughed along with Carla and Peter.
"Everything ok?" Kate asked.
"Yes, our news was confirmed and we have sorted future appointments if you know what I mean" Carla told her, not wanting to say too much in front of Haisley.
The family and Kate then made their way to Aidens. When Aiden opened the door, happiness radiated from his face. When they saw Emma she radiated the same look. Archie was laid in his basket.
"He is beautiful" Carla told them upon seeing him. She pulled Aiden in for a hug "congratulations"
Aiden picked Haisley up "hey princess, this is your new cousin" he held her over the basket so she could see him.
"He is tiny" Haisley said.
"He is but he will grow so you will be able to play with him" Emma told her.
Aiden put Haisley down.
Peter shook Aidens hand, he had to admit it was lovely seeing Haisley with a baby. He couldn't help but wonder if she would be this good with their baby.
After everyone had cuddles with Archie, Carla and Peter took Haisley home. She had two more days until she started school and Carla was dreading it.
"I can't believe she is starting school Monday" Carla told Peter as they cleaned up their kitchen after dinner.
"Carla she is going to be fine, she is a very confident little girl, she gets it from you" Peter placed his arms around her waist, pulling her in.
"I can't believe my little baby, the tiny little girl I brought home from the hospital is already going to school, soon she will be going to university and having her first boyfriend"
"Yeah when she's thirty"
Carla slapped Peter's arm "I'm serious Peter"
"I know, but kids grow up, look at Simon, he is going into his last year at school"
"I know that is crazy, what happened to that lairy little joker with curly hair" Carla smiled at the thought of his hair.
"Haisley will be just fine, and so will you once she is there" Peter placed a kiss onto her cheek and turned to pick up a tea towel.
"You are right, but I am pregnant so I can be emotional" she slapped his bum as he walked over to the kitchen sink to wash up.
Carla knew that the first day of school was going to be hard for her, Haisley on the other hand would probably be fine.
