We are almost to the end guys! The climax to the story is only a chapter or two away. I wrote this chapter in a rush, so I apologize if there are any grammatical errors along the way.
Also, it was mentioned that the link to my Wattpad page didn't show up on the last chapter. If you are interested in reading an original work by me that is set in an Omegaverse world (werewolf), that also has a mix of crime and mystery thrown in, the book is called A Deadly Game and my username is Amansrose. Give me a holler if you do decide to read it, I would love to see/read some familiar faces. :D
Disclaimer: Disclaimed.
Heart racing, Dimitri ran out of the building, trails of sweat rolling down the sides of his temple. About to race after them, a hard yank on his sleeve brought him up short. Turning, he saw Ivan holding on to the fabric of his shirt with a deep frown in place.
"What do you think you are doing?"
"I'm going after Rose," Dimitri growled back at him, pulling at his arm so Ivan could let go.
Ignoring him, Ivan barked back. "And when you reach her, then what? Do you think Luke is easily going to let her go? Don't be stupid Dimitri!"
Grasping onto the lapels of his shirt, Ivan stared at him, eyes swirling with turbulence. "You have to think this through," he whispered to him, "we need a plan."
"Fuck a plan! He's out there Ivan. With Rose, who's probably injured if she's being carried by him. We need to catch up to them before we lose track of where they are going."
There was never a moment in his life, not even when he had first joined the FBI, did he have this overwhelming fear. Death while on the job had never scared him, but this? The thought that Rose could very well die at the hands of Luke? Now that was downright terrifying.
Dimitri hated how such a beautiful friendship had turned to a total nightmare.
The other agents had come out from the warehouse and were awaiting orders to see how they would proceed. Each one kept glancing at both Ivan and Dimitri as the pair stood still staring at each other.
"Okay," a resigned breath left Ivan's mouth as he let go of Dimitri. "Let's do this. We split into two groups. One will go after them on foot while the other team take the vehicles and wait for our instructions. That way, we have a plan B if things don't go well for the first team."
Ivan scanned the group of agents as they formed a semi-circle around the pair. "Got it?"
Everyone nodded their head in agreement before splitting into two groups.
"I'm going after them," Dimitri called out to Ivan.
"I already knew that — and I'm going too."
With that Dimitri smiled softly at Ivan, the knot inside of his chest slowly untangling itself a little bit. One friendship may had ended, but he was glad he still had other friends in his life. Real friend who would never betray and let him down.
"Then let's go."
Hot, piercing pain scorched the side of her head, making nausea churn inside of her stomach. With difficulty, Rose tried opening her eyes even as the sun's rays blinded her eyesight. Her vision was hazy and at first she didn't know where she was.
The sensation of floating was still a puzzle to her.
A soft groan trailed from her lips as she tried moving her head, only to find out that any little movement just caused sparks of pain to spike through her head. A bead of sweat made its way across her forehead and into the inner corner of her eye.
Bringing her arm up, she swiped at it with the tips of her fingers, already feeling her eye burn from the water.
"Now don't do that love, you're smearing blood all over your face."
Her breaths froze as her heartbeat picked up its pace, beating harshly against her chest. Everything came back with a sudden rush; the room, the fight and lastly, the agony as the cold steel of the car smashed against her face.
"I see you're awake now," Luke sneered at her, his arms tightly gripping her ribcage and hips so she wouldn't attempt a second escape. His fingers dug into her flesh, possibly causing bruises to form.
"Now, because of your stupid attempt at escaping, we have to go take another route. If only you would have silently allowed me to move you, we wouldn't have to go through there."
"Tell me," her raw throat cut through the stilted silence, "what person in their right mind would let themselves be willingly moved?"
Something sharp dug into her side as she finished her logical rebuke.
"Shut up! One more word from you and I will dig this knife into your lungs. You don't want to choke on your own blood, now do you?"
Fear, but also a dose of curiosity enveloped her body. She wondered if he would actually go along with it, seeing as how he hasn't killed her already. It made her wonder why.
Was she his ticket to an easy escape, or did he have bigger plans for her? If he really wanted her dead, she would have died a long time ago — way before he took the trouble in trying to move her from the warehouse to a undisclosed location.
He could have shot her in that room. Could have been done with her and would have had the chance to make a clean break.
But something stopped him from doing so.
It was time to think of the reasons why.
"We have surveillance of them going into an underground tunnel. If it wasn't for the drone, we never would have caught them." Mason's voice filtered through the inner-com inside of Dimitri's ear.
He turned to his left to see Ivan give a nod of his head, indicating he had gotten the message as well. With a quick flick of his fingers, he signaled the rest of the team to halt.
"Do we know where that tunnel leads to?" He whispered back to Mason, hearing the other male sigh in reply.
"No, there's not blueprints that says where it ends at. It could be anywhere, maybe even as far as the border."
With a frown, he looked up to Ivan to see what he had in mind in how to proceed.
"We go after them, but slowly. No sudden movements or sound. The last thing we need is to alert Luke of our presence."
Agreeing with him, Dimitri relayed the order to the other agents surrounding him. Everyone gave their acknowledgement and as one, they began making their way towards the tunnel that's hidden from the general public.
Already getting tired from his still throbbing knee and the added weight on his hands, Luke slowed his fast pace walk to a slow canter. The knife he held in his hand was making his palm sweat and causing his grip on the hilt to shift away from Rose's skin.
With a grunt, he maneuvered the blade higher, accidentally nicking the fabric of her shirt and a bit of her flesh.
A low hiss filled the dimly lit cave.
Not giving any indication that he heard it, he leveled his eyes ahead of him and the floor at the same time. Last thing he wanted was to trip and fall over rocks and rubble that was left behind when they had last worked on the tunnel.
They were still hours away from reaching the end of this pathway, and the terrain along the way was something he had no knowledge of.
'I should have checked the whole area before traveling inside of it. Who's to know if there is still an exit?' He thought sourly, not prepared to find it not only blocked off, but unfinished.
'Well, only one way to find out. It's not like I can just turn back and go a different route.'
Mind once again fortified, he jostled Rose in his arms to secure her more snuggly against him, bringing the blade to rest on her hip bone.
"How about we play a game, love."
Screams fractured the quiet stillness that had descended upon the group of agents. Muscled bunched together, Dimitri picked up his pace to a jog while those screams reverberated throughout the cave.
"No." He growled out in painful agony, knowing who it was coming from.
"No, no, no!"
