Chapter 51: Gamer Part 1
Scene: Marinette's room. Marinette is writing in her diary.
Marinette: Dear diary, guess what? I was two spots away from transforming back and revealing my true identity to Cat Noir.
Tikki: Hey Marinette, weren't you meeting Alya back at school this afternoon to research your term paper?
Marinette: Oh no, I'm late! Again!
"I'm so surprised," said Adrien. "I mean, this is Marinette we're talking about. Late and Marinette in the same sentence? It can't be her."
Marinette blushed. "Hey! I've gotten better."
(Marinette puts her diary in her box, grabs her purse and goes to school.)
Scene: Collège Françoise Dupont. Suddenly, Marinette hears something from the Library.
Tikki: What's that noise?
Marinette: Hide, Tikki!
(In the Library, the students are playing Ultimate Mecha Strike III. Adrien and Max are playing while Alya records them.)
"Oh wait," Alya frowned. "This is the day that-"
"YES ALYA!" Abby yelled, appearing so suddenly that everyone yelped. She didn't care to notice though. "THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE SHIP ADRIFOOD WAS INVENTED!"
"Is that a holiday?" Adrien asked.
"Yes, we sacrifice croissants in honor of Adrifood," Abby informed them. "Just kidding. Although wait, I should do that-"
"Get to the point," said Chloe, rolling her eyes.
"Right," Abby smiled sheepishly. "Sorry. So anyways, this is the day Adrifood was invented. Adrifood a ship between Adrien and food. Or Adrien and croissants."
Adrien choked. "Say that again."
"Okay," she said patiently. "This is the day Adrifood was invented. Adrifood a ship between Adrien and food. Or Adrien and croissants."
Marinette rolled her eyes. "I don't think he meant literally."
"Oh, no..I meant literally," Adrien shook his head. "And please don't tell meI actually heard that."
"Dude, I did too," Nino said.
"Yes yes," Abby said impatiently. "And you'll see why."
Marinette stifled a laugh. "Oh wait..I think I know why. Oh my god Adrien, you were SO desperate for those pastries. They way you smiled when you first looked at them-"
Adrien crossed his arms and scowled. "The only one I love is you."
"Well..that's nice and all, but we all know the truth," Abby winked knowingly.
"Okay, this is going too far!" Adrien turned pink. "It's literally food!"
"Exactly, so why do you love it so much?" Abby asked, frowning.
"I don't!" Adrien said, embarrassed.
Abby smiled. "I'll leave you guys to it." Then she winked at Adrien again and disappeared.
Kim: Come on, Max.
Marinette: (Sees Alya recording) What's going on, Alya? (Alya shushes her)
"Sorry that I ditched you to research the paper," Alya apologized.
"Are you kidding?" said Marinette. "Video games are top priority."
"No wonder I fell in love with you," Adrien smirked.
Miss Bustier cleared her throat. "Ahem. Did you just say video games are more important than homework?"
"Yeah, I think she just did," said Chloe.
Marinette sighed. "Maybe I did…"
Rose: Try-outs for the Paris Ultimate Mecha Strike III Tournament! This school sends the two students with the highest scores!
Kim: Actually, the tryouts offer a partner to team up with Max in the tournament.
Marinette: Why Max?
Kim: 'Cause he's unbeatable! He's a total rocksord! He's got the highest APM over anyone!
"That is until Marinette came along," Max gave a slight smile.
"I'm sorry, I seriously didn't mean to hurt you," Marinette smiled.
"Apology accepted, I only had a 73% chance of keeping the highest APM," Max responded. "And hey, it's all behind us now."
Marinette: APM?
"How do you not know what APM is, but you beat me?" Max said, amused.
Marinette shrugged. "I don't know. The only partner I actually had was my dad, so I guess we'd just play when we were bored. Which is...a lot of time before I became Ladybug, I guess."
"You've been an avid gamer your whole life?" Adrien grinned.
"You bet," Marinette laughed.
Kim: Actions per minute? This tournament is his whole life! He's been grinding all year to level up.
"It must have been important to you," said Marinette. "I didn't realize."
Max smiled. "You did win fair and square. I guess I might have overreacted a little."
(Adrien's robot, NAD03, uses his special attack on Max's robot, MX-01. MX-01 is crushed and NAD03 wins.)
Caline: Adrien is now in the lead.
Kim: What happened, Max?
Max: Hmm. Awesome job. We're gonna make a killer combo.
(Adrien high fives him and Marinette and the rest of their class are cheering for both of them)
Marinette: So let me get this straight. If someone manages to beat Max's score, they'll team up with Adrien at the tournament?
"Ohh, no," Adrien laughed. "I know exactly what's going on in your mind."
Marinette turned pink. "It's not my fault! I was..well, completely attracted to you. And I-well, I started getting ideas!"
Kim: No one can beat Max. Or rather Max and Adrien. It's a slam dunk. They're our school's dream team!
"How about Adrienette?" Alya whined.
"That name disturbs me," Marinette sighed. "Who invented shipping anyways?"
Alya shrugged. "I don't know, but they were a genius."
"CREDITS TO FANDOM!" Abby shouted from the back.
(Alya takes Marinette by her hand and drags her to a book shelf)
Alya: I see where you're going with this, Little lady.
Marinette: Just imagine, teaming with Adrien!
"Yeah, just imagine, Marinette! Just imagine," Adrien smirked.
The class burst into laughter.
"I am just now realizing how ironic that line was," Marinette laughed.
Alya: Are you out of your mind, girl? This is about stepping up and representing! Not snuggling up and snogging! This is serious business!
"I assure you there was no snuggling up or snogging," Adrien promised.
Alya smirked. "If I hear you're taking bad care of my best friend, then-"
"Yeah, yeah I've been threatened before," Adrien laughed. "I know how it works. And I promise I'll take very good care of her."
"Please," Marinette scoffed. "Most of the time it's me controlling you!"
"Hey!" Adrien pretended to be mad.
Marinette: Seriously Alya, you think I'd actually go through with that?
"Yes," everybody said in unison.
Mr. Damocles: Well, I think we have our two champions lined up for the Paris tournament.
Marinette: Wait! Uh, Is it too late... to try out?
(Kim and Rose gasp)
Mr. Damocles: Well, the library is closing up in five minutes, but...
Alya: Oh, boy…
(Marinette sits down and Adrien gives her his joypad.)
Marinette: Adrien's joypad! Ohhh...! (rubs it on her face)
Adrien grinned. "I can't believe I didn't hear that!"
Kim: Is she serious? There's no way!
"Why is that?" Marinette asked. "Because I'm a girl?"
"What? No! Just because we thought that no one could beat Max."
Alya: Unless the particular player has a particular motivation.
"A particular motivation," Adrien nodded, agreeing.
Marinette's face turned a cute shade of crimson.
Adrien tilted his head. "You look cute when you blush."
"What?! No-I'm not blushing," she turned away, blushing even harder.
Max: The rules are elementary, You battle each other's robots with your own and-
Marinette: Please... Every time you win, you loot its items and gain XP, which upgrades your mech. I'm not new, thank you very much.
(A flashback of Marinette and her father playing the game is seen. Marinette wins every single game)
Everyone laughed.
"I feel so bad for your dad," Adrien laughed.
"Did you beat him every single time?" Alix asked.
"Yup," said Marinette. "He's not the best at video games. Although he likes to say that I learned everything I know from him."
Max: Ah, sounds like you have a sufficient amount of knowledge.
"Sufficient?"
Max: Let's see if it's enough to beat me.
Chloé: Seriously? How could anyone spend so much time in front of a screen?
Sabrina: I know, as if. (They start texting)
The class snickered.
"As if," Alya said sarcastically.
Chloe and Sabrina turned red.
(Marinette chooses LB-03, the ladybug robot, while Max chooses MX-01.)
"The Ladybug robot," Adrien laughed. "Some luck should do it, eh?"
"I won because of skill, not luck," Marinette told him.
Kim: Come on, Max, you can do it!
(Marinette and Max start playing. The others are surprised to see how Marinette is winning.)
Marinette: And now, a quarter super plus heavy kick, and Flying Hyper Storm! Triple head combo, Marinette style! Booyah!
(Marinette wins the game)
Marinette: Woo! Yeah! Woo hoo! I win! Uh-huh!
"You're amazing, Marinette," Adrien laughed. "Looks like I won the jackpot."
Marinette frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Not only is my girlfriend fierce, savage, and completely amazing-she also aces video games!" he laughed.
Kim: Wha! I can't believe it! She... she beat him?
"I love how you're so surprised," said Marinette. "But why were you surprised?"
"Well, they didn't exactly expect you to be a video game champ?" Chloe said.
Marinette raised her eyebrows. "Uh huh. I can be Marinette and Ladybug at the same time but I can't play video games?"
"Whatever," said Adrien. "When we go home, I challenge you to a round of Ultimate Mega-Strike 3."
"Ohh, you are so on!"
Alya: Beat him? She pulverized him!
"That's an understatement," said Max. "You're probably the toughest opponent I've ever had. Well, other than Markov that is."
Marinette laughed. "Thanks."
Rose: The king's been knocked off his throne!
Max: I accept this defeat. I relinquish my position at the tournament. Congratulations, Marinette. And Adrien.
"I'm sorry," Marinette apologized. "I shouldn't have taken the chance away from you just because I wanted to spend time with Adrien."
Max smiled. "Well, that's all behind us now. Plus, I may have overreacted a little."
Adrien: Max, wait!
Kim: Oh, Max...
Max: Look. I'm fine, I lost fair and square. But if you don't mind, I'd like a little solitude.
"That's good sportsmanship," said Rose.
Max winced. "Actually..that's because you all were there. I was actually really angry," he admitted sheepishly.
"I don't exactly blame you," said Marinette.
Mr. Damocles: So, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste will represent Françoise Dupont High School at the Paris Ultimate Mecha Strike III Tournament. Good luck to both of you.
Adrien: Well, I guess I'll be coming over to practice. With my new partner. See you later.
Marinette: See... ya…
Alix laughed. "You might as well have melted into a puddle of goo right there."
"Trust me, I was on the inside," Marinette giggled.
Alya: Now you gotta win and you're gonna be representing the school, not just hanging out with Adrien.
"I don't think she;s focusing," Nino stifled a laugh, pointing to Marinette's dreamy expression on the screen.
Marinette: Oh, Adrien…
Marinette turned super red as everyone burst into laughter.
"If only I'd seen that," Adrien snickered. "And if only I'd known you were Ladybug."
Alya: Oh, brother...
(Alya facepalms)
"Poor Alya," Kim laughed.
Scene: Streets of Paris. Max walks angrily.
Max: This is a travesty. An unequivocal travesty!
Max flinched.
"Ouch," said Marinette. "I guess you really were angry."
Scene: Hawk Moth's lair.
Hawk Moth: (His window opens) Ah, a competition. I know you like that, my little evil akumas. Where there's a winner, there's always a loser. (turns a butterfly into an akuma) Fly away, my little akuma, and evilize him!
Scene: The streets. Max laments not going to the tournament. The akuma flies after his glasses.
Max: I should've been going to that tournament. I was the chosen one! I worked so hard for it! Inconceivable!
(The akuma appears and evilizes him)
Hawk Moth: Gamer, I am Hawk Moth. I'll help you win the tournament of your life. But in return, you must help me achieve my high score.
Max: Absolutely, Hawk Moth. Game on! Now to see who's the greatest gamer in Paris! (Max gets transformed to Gamer by the akuma)
"Sorry, I completely raged on you," Max sighed.
"Hey, we all get mad sometimes," said Marinette. "But Hawkmoth loves to take advantage of that, so it's not your fault."
Scene: Outside Collège Françoise Dupont
Marinette: Ah, training with Adrien! Adrien!
"Adrien!" Adrien mimicked her voice.
Marinette's cheeks colored. "I sound NOTHING like that!"
"Yes you do," he laughed.
"Do not!"
"Do too!"
Tikki: If all you wanted to do is spend time with Adrien, there are other ways to do that!
Marinette: What are you getting at?
Tikki: You know how much Max wanted to be in that tournament. Kim said he'd been training for it all year.
"Ha! Plagg would have just been like, why play video games when you can eat cheese?" Adrien snorted.
Marinette: Right. All I could think about was Adrien. Hey! Adrien's coming to my house. (gasps) Adrien's coming to my house! No, this is a total disaster! I have to... clean my room!
Scene: Marinette's room. Marinette is scared that Adrien will see all the photos of him.
Adrien smirked. "Your room is a total mess."
"And you're a total idiot for actually believing my stupid excuse about me being a fan of your modeling designs," Marinette countered.
Adrien shrugged. "Hey, I can't argue with that. But seriously, you were way too obsessed! Literally, there isn't one inch of your room that doesn't have a picture of me."
"Try not to look too proud," Plagg yawned. "Plus, look who's talking. You play with Ladybug and Chat Noir action figures every single day, and sometimes you make them kiss, and also do other things like-"
Adrien turned beet red. "Okay okay! They don't need to know all that!" The class began to snicker.
"Other things like?" Marinette said, smirking.
"Well, some love confessions may have gone a little..overboard," Adrien admitted, now blushing harder than ever.
Marinette facepalmed. "You'll have to tell me the stories later." Everyone laughed.
Tikki: That's what I've been trying to tell you all along.
Marinette: Oh, this... is not... happening!
Tikki: Calm down, Marinette. You still have time. It's not like he's gonna show up this very minute.
Max cleared his throat. "In most shows, that's almost a guarantee he will ring the doorbell the very next second. Shows like to do that to be funny. I have no idea why, it's totally unrealistic-"
"Wait, but this is real life. Not a show," Marinette interrupted him.
Max laughed. "I'm beginning to realize why we're part of a TV show."
(The doorbell rings)
(With Tikki's help, Marinette takes the photos of Adrien from the wall to hide them from him)
Sabine: (downstairs) Marinette! Someone's here to see you!
"How did you take those down so fast? Must have taken an hour," Adrien teased.
"Oh, shut up."
Marinette: Uh... Coming!
Adrien: Marinette and I are finalists in the Paris Ultimate Mecha Strike III Tournament.
Tom: No way. Well, she did learn from the best! Tom style! Booyah!
Alya clapped. "Yess, your dad is SO awesome, Marinette!"
Adrien laughed. "Yeah, I remembered you using the same punchline. That's pretty cute!"
Marinette grinned. "But it's more like he learned from me."
Sabine: Marinette never told us about this Tournament.
Adrien: We were just pairing out today.
Sabine: You two are a pair, huh? I'm not surprised. Marinette talks a lot about you, you know?
The class erupted in laughter.
"When your parents try to ship you," said Alya, grinning broadly.
"Omg, they were SO rooting for you!" Rose said in delight.
"They were trying to set you up with Adrien cause they knew you liked him," said Chloe.
Marinette blushed. "Wha-? No! They didn't know, I-"
"Oh come on," Alix rolled her eyes. "Everybody knew. I'll eat a dog if your parents hadn't guessed by then."
"Was it really..well, that obvious?"
"Yes," everyone answered in unison.
"To everyone except Adrien," Nino smirked.
"I guess you could say I'm a little oblivious-"
"A LITTLE?"
"Um, fine-Maybe I was a complete idiot."
Marinette: Mom! ...Come up, Adrien!
Adrien: Uh, very nice to meet you.
Tom & Sabine: Ohhh…
"Your parents ship Adrienette!" Alix laughed as the entire class cheered. Adrien and Marinette quickly looked away from each other, blushing heavily.
Scene: The streets of Paris. The Gamer's ship appears.
Hawk Moth: Gamer. It's time to get to the next level and show everyone that you're the best!
Gamer: No time like the present!(his ship starts trapping people in green spheres. The ship absorbs them) Hahahahaha!
Scene: Dupain-Cheng House, Marinette's room. Marinette and Adrien start practicing for the Tournament.
Marinette: Oh! Hahaha. Sorry.
Adrien: No, you go.
Both: I'll use the other one. (both take each other's hands) Ah! (each take their controllers)
"Someone help me," Alya groaned. "You're so AWKWARD!"
Marinette giggled sheepishly. "Even I can't watch this without cringing."
Adrien laughed. "That was so weird. I have no idea why I was nervous."
"Maybe because you liked a particular girl but you couldn't see that because you liked another particular girl but you didn't realize they were the same person!" Alya raised her eyebrows.
Adrien frowned. He thought for a second. "What are you-"
Alya rolled her eyes. "I was talking about Marinette, dummy!"
Realization hit him. "Ohh! Okay, got it."
Marinette sighed. "I feel like you just pretended not to get that."
Adrien blushed. "Um, no..actually, I think I have a problem with obliviousness." Marinette laughed.
Adrien: Your parents seem nice.
Marinette: Oh yeah, they are. But... sometimes... (sees Tikki on a photo of Adrien) Ahhhh! (takes the photo of Adrien away)
"You freak out too much!" Kim laughed. "Literally, I thought you'd had a heart attack."
"I did," said Marinette, laughing.
Adrien: Sometimes what?
Tom: (opens the hatch) Everything going good? I thought just in case you wanted something to eat…
"Oh god, your parents are so cringy but hilarious!" Alix snorted. "They make this episode worth watching."
Marinette:' Uh... no thanks, Papa. We're training.
Tom: Well then, uh, maybe you could use a few tips, you know... dad style.
Marinette: Thanks, but no thanks! Papa!
"Talk about annoying parents," Nino laughed.
Marinette giggled. "No, they're not annoying. I feel like they just kept trying to ship me with Adrien."
"I noticed too," Adrien chuckled. "And honestly, I had no idea why."
(Tom closes the door)
Marinette: Sometimes my parents could be a little nosey. (sees Tom and Sabine entering the room, they close the door) Where were we?
Who else thinks Tom and Sabine write Adrienette fanfiction? Because I think they do...XD
