Klaus Mikaelson hung up the phone, sighing mentally.

He finally created two dozen hybrids who will be sired to him for eternity. He had a constant supply of human doppelganger's blood that could help him in creating an army. The Mikaelson Mansion in Mystic Falls is coming along beautifully and will be ready in a week at most.

Just when he thought everything was going well in his life for once...

Mikael, his father, has seemingly killed Elena Gilbert and is now running amok the living, waiting for his bastard child to come out of the hiding - just to drive the bloody white oak stake through Klaus' heart.

Klaus has been waiting for this moment for a while now, of course. Though he didn't expect it to be this soon. But he is prepared this time...after all these centuries of running. Now that he has an army of hybrids at his beck and call - may be, there is a chance for him, after all.

Even though he was hesitant to believe Katerina's word at first, he then figured there was no reason to. She wouldn't think of betraying him, not after the mercy, he showed her. Katherine Pierce was many things, but stupid was not one of them. The chances of her waking up Mikael as an act of vengeance are zero to none. Klaus spent a week with the younger vampire to appreciate how her mind works.

Well, not completely, if he were honest, but the hybrid understands her genius brain enough to realize she won't wake up The Destroyer - the whole supernatural community fears after gaining the freedom she longed for so far...that too knowing how well Klaus reacts to the threats against him.

But as a person who experiences a crippling sense of paranoia, he wanted to make sure. And when he received no reply from any of the three hybrids that were assigned to protect his doppelganger in Mystic Falls, and by the time the fourth finally picked up the call, he couldn't hear anything other than the sickening crack of the heart being ripped out followed by Mikael's cruel laugh.

Well, Mikael is definitely in Mystic Falls. And, if Katherine and the Mystic Falls gang are in on this, he will just have to kill them all along with his father.

Klaus thought about the doppelganger's advice; he turned around and looked at his warlock, Maddox, behind him, and ordered, "Prepare everyone. We are leaving for Mystic Falls," his smile turned into a devilish smirk, "There is no need to keep my father waiting."

Maddox, with his hands behind his back, nodded his head once and turned around to leave. However, he paused in his second step and looked over his shoulders with a slight frown, contemplating.

When Klaus lifted his eyebrow in question, Maddox hesitated a bit before blurting out, "Did she just call you a douchebag?"

The Original Hybrid gave his warlock a devil's eye, and said, "Among many other things...yes. I suggest you never bring it up again if you wish for your limbs to remain intact."

"Right," Maddox nodded his head, clearing his throat a bit, "Of course."

Klaus ran a finger through his hair as he watched Maddox walk away and breathed out harshly. He would rather forget all the things the Petrova Doppelganger said if the hybrid were being honest, but, he can't. He tried, he really did, but for some reason, her words will always find a way to get under his skin.

It might be the fact that Katherine states facts, and is very blunt about it, or perhaps it's her peculiar mind that gets to him. Or maybe, it's her audacity.

He stopped trying to seek for a reason at one point. Because, no matter what it is, Katherine Pierce always says something that makes him question everything he believed and thought. She tells him things he has never heard of or considered about. But the logic behind them is not something that can be overlooked.

She somehow knows all his insecurities, the way his mind works, the way he behaves with his siblings, and why he does that. She perceived he wanted to make hybrids, and knew his blood is the cure to a werewolf bite. She knows him more than he knows her. The fact that Katherine can read him so effortlessly unnerves him to a great deal.

To an extent, it alarms him. Because, if Katherine Pierce puts her mind to it, she could play him like an instrument, and he wouldn't even see it coming. The Katherine he spent a week with, is a lot different than the one who ran from him all these years...the one whose stories he heard about.

Well, whatever it is, he has a war to prepare for, and a brother to undagger.

And, that was how, Elijah Mikaelson found himself waking up in the passenger seat of the SUV, five hours later.

"Ah!" Klaus made a sound in the back of his throat, "You are finally awake. I was getting bored with all the quiet."

"Tell me one good reason why I shouldn't just rip your heart out," Elijah spoke, looking at the unfamiliar road, trying to figure out where he was.

Klaus just laughed at his brother's threat and said, "I am driving...and, you can't kill me even if you tried a hundred years."

The Nobel Original sighed at that. He looked down at his attire and disapproved of his slightly wrinkled suit. He was still in the same clothes he borrowed from Carol Lockwood, that belonged to her late husband.

"Just how many days has it been?"

"A little over two months...less than three," Klaus murmured.

"What has such importance that I have to wake up in a car? And, where exactly are we going?" Elijah questioned again.

"Well, Elijah, that is a very good question," Klaus drawled, "We are 3 hours away from Mystic Falls. Our father has killed Elena Gilbert this morning and is probably still there waiting for me. So, we are going to go, pay him a visit, and kill him once and for all."

Elijah has seen a lot of things but never been this surprised. His brother is talking about ending his father's life, instead of running the other way as soon as he heard his name. Just what has changed in these two months.

"Did you mysteriously come in the possession of a white oak?"

"No, but I have an army of hybrids at my beck and call," confessed Klaus, looking at the rearview mirror where 4 cars are following behind them. "We would've taken the charted flight along with others, but I can't possibly take the coffins and a desiccated brother in front of other humans now, can I?"

"So, Katerina was correct. To create hybrids you need Miss Gilbert's blood," Elijah said a little surprised.

"It seems so," Klaus admitted reluctantly, "But now that Elena is gone and I only have 2 blood bags left, I will have to find a different solution."

"How do you know it is him?" Elijah inquired, "We haven't heard a word about our father for a decade now."

"Katherine, of course," Klaus commented coolly.

"Niklaus, so help me god... if you have compelled her to spy for you..." Elijah began.

"Relax, brother. It's a mutual agreement if you will. I wanted her to be my advisor, but she agreed to be a part-time consultant," Klaus gave him a side-eyed glace, "If I didn't know any better I would've thought you reconciled with your old flame, but the way Katerina spoke about you made it obvious she will never trust you again."

"She is clever," Elijah breathed out, his gaze on his cufflinks, "She knows to love any of us is a death sentence."

"Well, she has her priorities in order. I, for one, am glad the naive girl who believed in unrequited love has gone and finally realized how the world works," Klaus spoke with a sneer, "I prefer the Katherine she is now. It's always nice to see a vampire in their true element. The species now has become such a broody lot, don't you think?"

"I don't think she stopped believing in love, brother," Elijah interjected, "She wouldn't have gone through all the trouble for the Salvatore brothers just for anything. She is still the same Katerina...she just trusted people she shouldn't have, and it broke a part of her inside."

"Now, this is fascinating. I've never seen this before," Klaus mused aloud, "My Nobel brother admires someone, and the feelings aren't returned."

"If you have had your fill by mocking my lack of love life, can you please -" However, a phone call cut him off from speaking any longer.

"Speak of the devil," Klaus commented as he looked at the caller Id.

"Tell me you are not bailing out," Katherine Pierce's voice spoke through the phone, "Cause I have a very dead Bennett witch spirit here with the spell that will help us to put Mikael down, but I would require an alive witch or warlock who can do the spell."

"Maddox and Greta will be there in half an hour at most," Klaus confessed, "For me, it might take another three hours. What's the situation there?"

Katherine made a noise at the back of her throat, saying, "You know, just peachy. Jeremy is talking with his dead sister, who is presently in the care of Bonnie's grandmother on the Other Side. I advised her to hightail out of there is she were to see your mother dearest. It seems Bonnie's mother, Abby Bennett, was the one who desiccated your dad in the '90s when he came to kill little Elena when he knew she was the latest doppelganger, losing her magic in the process, and ditching little Bonnie later. And now that Esther released him, he came to complete his job," Katherine sighed at that, "I don't think he knows that you did the ritual. If he did, he would've used Elena to get to you, instead of killing her in cold blood. Whatever it is, everyone is a little too eager to kill him now."

"Well, if he didn't know then, he does now," Klaus drawled, "He killed 4 of my hybrids that I assigned to protect the doppelganger."

"Do you have a plan to...I don't know... to resurrect Elena, coz we don't really have much to work with with a ripped out heart," Katherine spoke, "And your mother apparently has a huge clique on the Other Side. It's either her way or no way."

"Katerina, saving lives is not really my forte, killing, however, is a whole another element," Klaus said, earning a snort from the younger vampire.

"You can say that again," Katherine proclaimed. "Alright, come to the boarding house when you do arrive. I have to deal with a heartbroken vampire and try to stop him from shutting his humanity off," and with that, she hung up the call before Klaus could get another word out.

"Did she just..." Elijah couldn't help the smirk that grew.

"Yes, she did," Klaus grumbled. "Things like this make me wonder if she is the same vampire that's been on the run from me all these years."

"Someone who disrespects my brother and is alive to tell the tale," Elijah mocked, "Now I have seen everything."

"Only because she has her uses," Klaus argued. "Katherine Pierce earned a name for herself in this supernatural community. She has resources and holds contacts with werewolves, witches, and vampires. And she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty to get what she wants."

"Right," Eliah uttered, "As I was saying earlier, can you tell me what all have I missed in these past months, and what has our mother got to do with the recent predicament."

"Elijah," Klaus sighed. It's now or never, he thought, "Before I tell you anything, I have something to confess. It has to do with our mother's death."

"Did you massacre a town before coming here to settle your nerves or something?" Katherine said, scrunching her nose a little at Klaus's appearance.

"Nonsense. We just had a little chat about the past," Klaus said with a smirk as he stood on the doorstep of Salvatore Boarding house.

"We?"

Just then, Elijah answered her question by coming behind his brother. His clothes were tattered slightly, and are covered in the blood similar to Klaus's.

"Elijah," The undead doppelganger uttered in a surprised tone.

The last time they saw each other, they kissed, and Katherine avoided him, and Elijah then got daggered.

Katherine cleared his throat, saying, "I didn't know you were coming," She paused for a moment before saying, "I will call Bonnie. She will have to be the one to invite you in."

When the Mikaelson brothers finally stepped inside the house after getting an invitation from the Bennett Witch, they were greeted by the hybrids that came with Maddox and Greta first, then the somber gang of Mystic Falls who are in the company of an unfamiliar female werewolf.

Klaus saw from the corner of his eyes as Katherine signaled something to her blonde friend, Isobel was talking about.

"The bathroom's upstairs," A Blonde vampire commented, shortly after, looking at both brothers in exasperation, "Come on."

"Thank you, love," The Hybrid said with a smirk, Elijah followed behind him, rolling his eyes, as he went. "Thank you, Miss. Forbes."

"Those are the originals?" the werewolf - Klaus still don't know anything about - whispered next to Katherine.

When the said vampire made a noise of agreement, the werewolf commented, "They are not what I was expecting."

"You do know they can hear you, right?" Katherine whispered back quietly.

"It's hard to fear someone you called a douche bag...no matter how old they are," the werewolf muttered. And all the supernaturals with enhanced hearing in the house heard that.

There was a "Shit!" followed by Klaus's dark growl.

So, Elijah doesn't know anything about his mother as of now. Because he locked this memory behind the red door, along with the memory of compelling Aurora. And I honestly didn't know how to write Klaus at this point. Because like you said, he really is a complex character. And now that he has positive feelings towards Katherine, and doesn't exactly want to kill her in cold blood, it became a bit messy I guess. Well, anyway, I decided to not do this stunt for a while now. I will just go back and focus on my favorite OC, who I have come to love, the more I write.

And the next episode will be of Mikael's demise as you must've expected. So, that's that. But I still haven't prepared a plot for it, so the next one might take time to upload.

Okay, enough ranting.

Bye.
