A few minutes before 10AM, Dillon exits his house to run around the building and take the long way to the gym's front doors. Since it is a weekend, the gym opens at 10AM rather than 9AM, like the weekdays. To his surprise, Aurora and Granite are already at the front doors with Pika when Dillon joins them.
"You look awful." Granite remarks. Dillon gives him an annoyed look.
"It's okay, Dilly Boy. Looks don't win pokemon battles." Aurora snickers. He rolls his eyes at them as Granite hands him Coal's and Persian's pokeballs. Pika hops onto his trainer's shoulders. "Am I ever going to meet your family?" Aurora asks Dillon. He flinches. "You met mine." She tells him matter-of-factly. He awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.
"Some day?" He says. Aurora laughs at him.
"I'm kidding! We can meet whenever you're ready." She smiles at him. Dillon lets out a relieved breath.
"So are you guys doing this or not?" Granite asks the pair. The teens look at each other and then at the man.
"Heck yeah!" Aurora exclaims as Dillon nods.
"Pika!"
"Pachi!" The electric mice join in on the excitement.
The group walk through the large gym doors. To Granite's and Aurora's surprise, there is a 12 year old girl as the receptionist. Dillon knows Amy helps out with the gym when she's not in school. "Hello! I'm Amy Ketchum! Welcome to the Cerulean City Gym. How can I help you today?" She asks the group and smirks at her brother. Dillon rolls his eyes.
Aurora tells Amy, "I'm Aurora Lightfield from Vermillion City and this is Dillon Kay from Cerulean City! We're here for our gym battle with Leader Misty Ketchum!" Aurora then points to Granite, "And this is our friend Granite Slate from Rustaboro City. He's just spectating."
Amy's eyes light up at Granite. "Mom! It's Granite!" She yells while running around the counter to tackle the man. Aurora looks on in confusion.
"Whoa there kiddo!" Granite laughs and hugs Amy back. Misty walks out from her office and notices the group. She chuckles at her daughter's antics.
"Hi Granite! How are your parents?" Misty asks while giving Granite a hug.
"They're good, Aunt Misty. Dad says hi, of course. And to make sure Uncle Ash calls more." he smiles.
"Boy. You can say that again." Misty replies while rolling her eyes. She then turns her attention to the two teenagers. "Who are your friends, Granite?"
"Oh! Let me answer that!" Amy pipes up. She motions to Aurora. "This is Aurora Lightfield from Vermillion City!" she then points to Dillon. "And that is Dillon Kay from Cerulean City." She smirks. Dillon shoots her a glare that Aurora does not notice.
"Hello Leader Misty! It is a pleasure to meet you!" Aurora exclaims while extending a hand. Misty shakes it and laughs.
"Oh please. Just call me Misty." she smiles. Aurora smiles back. Misty then walks over to Dillon and extends her hand. "Hello Dillon." Dillon shakes her hand. "Okay. Let's head to the gym. Who will be battling me first?"
"I will." Dillon and Aurora say at the same time. Granite rolls his eyes.
"I got here first!" Aurora tells Dillon.
"Technically I did" Dillon thinks to himself, but instead he says, "It's my city!"
"You battled Lt. Surge before me!"
"Your fault for not saying anything back then!" Dillon quips back.
"No way, Dilly Boy! Ladies first!" Aurora shoots back. Amy can't help but snicker at the name.
"Dilly Boy." She says under her breath and stifles a laugh. Dillon, too heated in the argument, doesn't hear her.
"You're not a lady," he says.
Misty, having seen enough, interrupts, "Okay. How about you two pick a number between 1 and 5. Whoever is closest to the number I'm thinking of will battle me first." She suggests.
"Fine." Dillon says. Aurora elbows him. He glares at her.
"Stop being rude." She hisses to him. He rolls his eyes. Misty can't help but smile at her son's friend.
"Okay. Ready." Misty tells them.
"3." Dillon chooses.
"1" Aurora picks. Dillon gives her a look.
"Who picks 1?" He questions her sarcastically. She sticks her tongue out at him.
"I do!" Misty lies. Really, she didn't pick any number. She just wanted to battle Aurora first. "Because I have 1 caring son and 1 beautiful daughter!" Amy smiles brightly. "Okay. Make your way to the stands, Dillon. I will be battling Aurora first." Misty smiles. Dillon grumbles to himself but makes his way to the stands with Granite and Amy.
"So Dilly Boy, huh?" Amy snickers. Dillon glares at her.
"Leave me alone." He says.
"Okay, children. Behave." Granite walks between them. The three and Pika sit down while Aurora and Misty take their place on the field. Unfortunately for Dillon, Amy had Politoed join the stands. The frog teases Dillon before getting a glare from Pika and the boy. Politoed then glares back and Granite, of course, has to stop them before anything starts.
