Fool

Two separate pairs of eyes, one brown, the other teal, widened in shock at the rare scene standing before them, which was Naruko and Sasuke. The hyperactive bubbly blonde wore an orange sleeveless blouse paired with white shorts and cute white sandals on her feet. Due to Ino's insistence, Temari had noted that Naruko had gotten into the habit of applying red nail polish to her hands, narrowed her eyes to get a closer look.

The Suna kunoichi noticed the coat of light pink lipstick Naruko wore over her lips. Moving her teal eyes off the blonde, Temari set them on the silent raven-haired man standing beside her and saw that the ex-rouge ninja was dressed casually for once. He donned a simple long sleeve indigo shirt and a pair of black pants. The man showed not an ounce of emotion on his face, giving others the impression that he would rather be anywhere else but here. When she moved her eyes to their conjoined hands, she knew this to be false.

"Hey, Shika! Hey, Temari-chan! Sorry to be intruding on you guys' date!" Naruko happily greeted the couple, who despite having already announced their relationship, still blushed like they had young childhood school crushes whenever someone addressed them as an item.

"W-We're not on a date! I need to pick up my fan from the weapon's store. TenTen told me it should be ready by now." Temari tried to act her usual calm and collected self but was failing badly with rosy red cheeks that told others how she truly felt.

"What a coincidence! I'm heading there now to pick up some high-grade sealing scrolls TenTen told me was just shipped in today! How about we all head over there together?" Naruko suggested and, without waiting for an answer, began dragging the couple towards TenTen's ninja weapon shop. While this all happened, Sasuke said nothing but remained beside Naruko like a loyal shadow.

When the two couples graced TenTen's shop with their presence, the weapon's master was happy to see she had customers. Since the war had ended, business had been slow, and TenTen was honestly getting bored. Her bones were itching to get back into the field and do some real fighting, but most of the missions nowadays were mostly about peace talks and negotiations now that the world was entering an era of peace.

"You guys don't know how happy I am to see you here! Why don't you guys look around while I head back and retrieve Temari's new weapon fan." Leaving the couples on their own, Temari stuck beside Shikamaru, looking over the selection of ninja weapons when her eyes trailed over to the couple standing on the opposite side of the room. Noticing how the two were standing so close that their shoulders were touching, Temari could barely make out Naruko moving her mouth, obviously talking to the Uchiha about whatever had caught their attention.

"Hey, you don't think those two could be on a date, right?" Temari nudged Shikamaru's arm and asked. Hands stuffed in the pockets of his pants, Shikamaru glanced at the couple before answering truthfully.

"I don't know. Dates and Sasuke don't match. The guy prefers solitude more than anything." It had been over two years since the Uchiha officially returned to the village for good, and despite what some people may have thought of this, Shikamaru knew the only real reason Sasuke returned was for Naruko.

After that whole little fiasco on the moon, involving a pissed off Uchiha, an obsessed Ōtsutsuki, and an kidnapped Naruko, which ended in a grand confession that the gang would never stop teasing Naruko about, the troublesome couple was officially together to no one's surprise. Hell, if anything, everyone in their social group was betting on who was going to confess first. Weirdly, the one who won that bet was Konohamaru, but that was a discussion for later.

"I still don't get those two, mainly about what she sees in him. I mean, Naruko is just so bubbly and happy, the definition of hope. While the Uchiha is a complete and utter ass." Temari did not like Sasuke, feeling the man was not suited for someone as pure and sweet as Naruko. Then again, maybe she was still feeling salty because she was unable to pair Gaara and Naruko together. Temari knew her little brother had feelings for the blonde but refrained from confessing due to the fact that Naruko's heart belonged to none other than the Uchiha.

Sighing at the sandy blonde next to him, Shikamaru gave her hand a gentle squeeze, hoping it would calm her temper. "Naruko and Sasuke are the definition of a complicated relationship, but despite that..." Shikamaru gave the couple another glance, eyes pointed in Sasuke's direction.

The Uchiha stood silently, listening to Naruko standing at his side animatedly talking about something which the lazy Nara did not feel like deciphering. Shikamaru knew the impression Sasuke tended to give people, especially after everything he did while on his quest for power and vengeance. People couldn't help but view him as a villain who was tainting their beloved hero, but those who thought along these lines didn't know just how much Sasuke and Naruko valued each other.

Most people considered that Naruko's obsession only ran a one-way street, unaware that it ran both ways. Sasuke's entire world revolved around Naruko. She was the light to his darkness, the one beacon of hope that kept him mentally stable despite all the crap that life, including this village, had put him through. She was his sun, sky, and one true love. Hell, if one were to gaze into his eyes, they could see that Sasuke was a lovesick fool for Uzumaki Naruko.

"If you pay attention to his actions, then you'll understand just how far Sasuke's love for Naruko goes. Which is infinite, but instead of listening to me, look closer," advised Shikamaru. Temari didn't know why her boyfriend insisted that underneath that cold mask, the Uchiha had feelings. When in fact, the man was a block of ice and nothing was going to change her mind, but giving her boyfriend the benefit of the doubt, Temari looked closer and that's when she saw it.

The couple had moved towards the sword selection, Naruko picking out swords for Sasuke to hold, handing over a solid black sword with a dragon hilt. Naruko said something to Sasuke, nodding her head as a big grin split across her face before turning her back to him. It was at that moment Temari stared in disbelief as she spotted the corners of Sasuke's mouth lifting into a ghost hint of a smile, pure and affectionate, aimed directly at Naruko.

"Well, I'll be..." Temari tsked her tongue in annoyance, emotions bitter, but the facts did not lie. "The Uchiha is a lovesick fool."

End of Fool!
