Chapter 22: Shane's Karma: Part 1

Previously:

"I'm tired of fighting it. I must accept what I am. Who I am." A rainbow of light shot around her. "I am the daughter of the Moon and the Sun." Standing on the branch, Zoey and Vixey jumped down and attacked the putties. Watching her fox destroy half of them, she walked further into the fight. "I've had enough pretending. I will no longer hold back."

Holding her hands out, her Ninja Fire combined with her Light and destroyed the rest of the putties. "I know who I am, now. I am a Star Witch."

Calling her Fox back into her, she looked up, "No." She shook her head.

"I am the Star Mystic."

"Man, I am worked," Dustin complained as he walked into Ninja Ops, followed by the rest of the team. They had just finished various forms of training exercises set by Sensei. The teens from Angel Grove seemed to be the only ones not tired.

"So am I." Blake nodded. "Ten-mile run, two fight simulations and an obstacle course," he listed off, dragging his feet.

"Please. That course was easy." Zoey said, sitting on the table.

"Says the professional." Tori glared at her, "You participate regularly in Parkour, Free Running, and Cross Fit."

"Yadda, yadda, yadda."

"What is Parkour?" Dustin asked.

"Parkour is about going from point A to point B the faster and most effective way possible. Then there's Free Running. It's about going from A to B any way that you want to and doing whatever your body allows you to do to get there." Looking over, she poked him in the arm. "You guys should be pretty good at it. A lot of the Ninja training we do is Free Running."

Seeing the confused looks, she continued, "Parkour builds strength, power, coordination, and balance. It teaches you adaptability, which is perfect for Ninja Training. It's also perfect for law enforcement training. The Silver Guardians have adapted it into their training methods, along with a Cross Fit and Free Running obstacle course."

"I don't know how you four look like you do right now. I'm dead on my feet," Cam asked, leaning on his desk. "and you look like you've just rolled out of bed and down a hundred shots of caffeine."

"It's a gift. When you've grown up with our brothers," Jenna point to her friends, "you learn to keep up. Besides, we had a pretty active high school schedule."

"Well, let's not forget about the two hours of hard meditation," Hunter added, pulling off his arm guards.

"I don't know about you guys, but I took a two-hour nap." Raina spoke as she passed him. Andy, Jenna and Zoey raised their hands as well.

"Seriously?" Blake said, looking at the four. "How's that even possible? We were all sitting up, the whole time."

"Like they said, we learned how to keep up with our brothers and their friends. That included developing ways of conserving energy. Tommy taught us how to sleep without looking like we're sleeping." Andy said, sitting next to the girls.

"That really should be considered cheating." Hunter complained.

"Jealous." Zoey smirked at him from her table.

"Dude, you look more tired than all of us," Andy commented, turning the Red Ranger. "Training finally getting to you?" he asked, as Shane caught his breath and straightened up.

"I'm not getting a lot of sleep." Shane admitted, rubbing his eyes. "I keep having this weird dream."

"You should pay attention to that. Sensei says your dreams can tell you a lot about yourself," Tori said, walking over to him.

"Speaking of dad, where is he?" Cam wondered, looking around. "Dad?" he called out, but there was no response from the guinea pig.

"Look," Tori spotted a little scroll pinned to the side of Sensei's little house. They all gathered around as she lifted it, squinting at the tiny writing. "'Rangers, I have gone on a meditation retreat to reflection on and recharge my inner ninja," she read aloud as they all looked curious. "'In my absence, enjoy a well-deserved day off'," as Tori read this, everyone cheered happily.

"No way, is that what it says?" Shane took the note to double check, barely able to believe that they had a day off.

"Yeah," Tori nodded. Zoey noticed the Water Ninja go quiet and looked at Jenna.

"Well I'm thinking, maybe the track, then a movie...or maybe a movie...then the track..." Dustin looked torn, making them all start laughing.

"Hey Tor, what's the matter?" Blake asked, also noticing Tori's silence. "Don't tell me that you can't deal with a day off," he grinned as they all looked at her.

"No, a day off is great, especially tomorrow," Tori smiled at him. "I just thought that Sensei would be around for...you know..." she trailed off.

"What?" Hunter frowned, not understanding what was going on.

"Oh, Man!" Shane exclaimed, putting his hands on his head, "Are we stupid? 'Cause tomorrow…It's your birthday!" He sang as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and smiled. Every cheered and hugged Tori in excitement. "What?!"

"Why didn't you say anything?" Zoey smacked her on the arm.

"I thought I had. Honestly, we've been so busy with Lothor that I forgot. And you've had a lot on your plate on your own, it probably just slipped my mind."

"Don't worry about me. We need to celebrate."

"How about a beach party?" Dustin suggested as he put an arm around the Water Ninja.

"What do you say, Tor?" Blake looked to the Blue Ranger, who was now smiling brightly.

"Alright, sure," she nodded. "Sounds great to me!"

"Alright, let's meet at the beach first thing in the morning!" Hunter called, high-fiving Shane as they all started to head home, excited for the next day. The ones who actually lived in Ninja Ops, even temporarily, walked to the back to head to their rooms.

"Just make sure you get enough sleep tonight," Tori told Shane as she walked past him. "I think tomorrow might be something special after all."

1-2-3-4-5

Zoey, Jenna, Raina, and Andy rode towards the beach in Zoey's jeep with the top down. Enjoying the sun, Raina leaned forward from the back, "It was nice of Tommy and Jason to drop this off for you to use today. Do you need to take it back or do you have somewhere you can park it?"

"Kelly said I could keep it parked in the back of the store."

The early morning light on increased the beauty of the day. Pulling up to the beach, Zoey saw everyone, minus Shane, unloading Tori's van. They looked up in surprise as Zoey parked next to her.

"Where'd you get the jeep?" Hunter coming over. It was matte black with purple accents on the trim and wheels. It had stylized pink flame graphics, with purple and silver stars going up the sides. It had a black leather interior with purple, pink and silver accents. The hood had a custom kitsune in purple, pink, and silver painted on it.

"Holy crap!" Blake looked in awe.

"It was my birthday present from my brother." Getting out, Zoey looked it over in happiness, "My parents could understand the black and purple, as they're my favorite colors, but they were really confused with the flames. The Kitsune was just added a couple of weeks ago. A little add-on from Jason."

"But you're the Pink Ranger." Dustin said, confused.

"Our Ranger colors happened by chance, Dustin. Zoey's favorite color has always been purple. Ever since she was a little girl." Jenna said, chunking a bag at him. "Mine used to be pink. I still like it, but I'm more of a metal person. Give me any color in a matte or metallic shade, and I'm happy."

"You know, I can see you as a silver Ranger." Zoey said thoughtfully. Jenna grinned in response.

Andy looked around and noticed something missing. "Hey, where's Shane?"

"I don't know. Has anyone seen him?" Tori asked.

"Yeah, we gotta get this show on the road!" Blake cheered.

"Beach." Zoey smirked as he threw a towel at her.

"Hey, come on. We can't leave without him," Dustin shook his head as he walked over, a ring around his waist and an inflatable board in his hands. He held up another floaty ring in the shape of a fox and placed it on Zoey's head.

"Isn't he bringing the cake?" Zoey smiled, pointing to the Yellow Ranger, "Nice glasses."

"Hey guys!" They looked around as Shane ran up to them, carrying a large box. "Here Tori, happy birthday," he grinned as he held it out to her, making her smile.

"Hey, that doesn't look like beachwear bro," Hunter commented as he took the box from Tori. Shane's smile faded, and he looked away.

"Don't tell me you're bailing!" Tori's smile fell. Hunter shook his head, a rubber duck on his head as he walked away. Picking up a giant inflatable wolf, he tossed it at Jenna.

"Ok, look. I had that same dream again last night," Shane admitted. "I think it's trying to tell me something," he insisted.

"Like, how to ruin your friend's birthday?" Tori frowned, and Shane sighed.

"It's just, I have a weird sense that something isn't right. I gotta go check out the woods," he told them.

"Shane, I'm the first person to say duty before pleasure," Cam spoke up as he leaned against the van. "But I left Cyber Cam online in Ninja Ops. If anything weird shows up, he'll let us know," he insisted.

"We all told him that he needed to listen to his dreams." Zoey said, holding up a hand, "We need to trust him. If he thinks he needs to go, then he should go." She chunked a beach ball at his head, "But he better be careful, or he'll find out first hand just how well my bruise balm actually works. Capisce?"

"Capisce." Giving her a thumbs up, he started to back up. "I'll catch up later, ok? I promise," Shane said, before turned.

"You better!" Tori warned, and Shane ran off. Before anything else could be said, a giant beach ball hit Zoey in the back of the head and pinged Tori in the face. Laughing, the Yellow Ranger froze when Zoey turned around and glared at him. The other guys, seeing the look on her face backed up in fear. Andy leaned around and whispered.

"Run."

Charging after Dustin down the beach, Zoey left the others to get the rest of the stuff.

1-2-3-4-5

Once they got down to the beach, everyone started setting up blankets, chairs and inflatables. "A little more to your left." Zoey leaned back in her chair directing Dustin on umbrella placement. "Perfect."

"You could have done that yourself you know." He grumbled.

"Yes, but would you have learned your lesson?" Grinning, she stood up to help Raina and Andy with the collapsible picnic table.

"You guys, do you think we did the right thing?" Tori asked, still worried. "Maybe we should have gone with him."

"What, because he had a nightmare?" Hunter scoffed as he pulled his shirt off.

"I dunno, maybe she's right," Dustin shrugged as he straightened up. "I mean, he did seem pretty tweaked," he commented.

"If he needs us, he can contact us," Jenna shrugged as she took off her tank and skirt to reveal a vintage black and purple high waist and halter bikini set.

"Yoo hoo!" Zoey waved her hand in front of Hunter's face as he froze, staring at his girlfriend. She looked over as Jenna sat in her chair, looking like a 50s pinup. Shrugging, she turned to a grinning Blake and Tori. "We have our morphers. He can call us if he needs us. I have a feeling this is something he needs to do himself."

"He's the big, bad Red Ranger. He can handle himself." Raina said, pulling off her shirt. She was in board shorts and bikini top similar to Tori's, only white and black. She sat down in her own chair, completely missing the look on Dustin's face.

Zoey nudged Tori and they both laughed at their cluelessness.

"They're right. Come on guys, we're here now!" Blake insisted. "It's a party, right!" he reminded them. "So let's party!"

"Yeah. Last one in the water is a little girl!" Hunter called, and Zoey froze after removing her sundress to reveal a pink and black halter swimsuit with boy short bottoms and the sides cut out. The girls turned to look at him as Tori stepped up with a glare in her eyes.

"You are so gonna pay for that," Tori warned, and he ran off towards the water with the three girls following. They trailed off as Jenna out ran them, throwing her hat and glasses off, and jumped him from behind. When they collided, they landed in the water, Hunter holding onto her to keep her from going under. Dustin, Andy, and Blake ran over and grabbed the other three to drag them into the water. Creating a game of chicken, with a reluctant Cam coming into the water to referee, Jenna and Raina faced off to see who would go against Zoey and Dustin.

"Come on Hunter, hold on to her!" Blake yelled, laughing at his brother's struggle.

"She a little more vicious than Tori, no offense Tor, so it's a little more of a struggle." Hunter grunted to trying to keep a grip on Jenna's legs. "Besides, I don't think I should be taking advice from someone who's already lost."

Blake and Tori shared a look before pushing them into the water. Come up, coughing, Hunter charged and dunked his brother while Jenna just glared at Tori.

"Was that necessary?" She demanded, spitting out water.

"Sorry. It had to be done." The water Ninja apologized as Raina and Andy celebrated.

"Alright, Dustin. One more time." Zoey encourage boosting herself onto Dustin's shoulders.

1-2-3-4-5

After being declared the winners, Zoey was laying on a towel drying out and Dusting was wearing his sunglasses crowing like a rooster. "Dusting, enough." The Pink Ranger said, getting annoyed. "You look like a Kelzack on crack." Dustin, looking offended at the laughter, opened his mouth to comment, but their morphers stopped him.

"Hey party animals, I think we have a problem," they all got up and gathered around as Cyber Cam contacted them. "We've got an alien visitor in the forest, and here's a newsworthy item. He's not working for Lothor." Cyber Cam told them.

"Those are the worst." Zoey commented. See the looks, she held up her hands, "What? You know what to expect with him. Those damn independent freaks with their own agendas cause way more problems."

"Can you reach Shane?" Cam asked, looking at Zoey with a frown.

"No can do," Cyber Cam responded. "Wherever that spaceship is, it's interfering with Shane's morpher."

"Well, keep trying," he said, "I'm on my way."

"You're going back?" Tori spoke so softly; it cause Cam to turn around apologetically.

"Only until I figure out what's going on," Cam promised. "With dad out of town, I'll just feel better checking things out myself."

"We'll come with you," Hunter offered, but Cam shook his head.

"No, stay," he insisted. "There's nothing we can do until we know what we're dealing with," he told them, and they nodded, knowing that he was right.

"Well, maybe it's a good alien?" Dustin suggested. "No-one ever considers that possibility," he pointed out.

"Have you ever met a good alien?" Andy asked.

"Many." Zoey and Jenna answered together, causing everyone to look at them.

"Doesn't matter," Zoey patted the Water Ninja on the shoulder, "Cam will call us if he needs us. So let's just relax and enjoy as much of the rest of the day as we can."

"Yeah. Listen to Zoey." Blake smiled, "Probably one of the only times you'll hear me say that." He planted an inflatable swan on her head," Don't let this get you down, ok? Come on, we can still have fun! Come on!" He encourage and managed a small smile out of her.

"You're right," she nodded. "I guess the day's not completely ruined..." she commented.

"Yet." Raina mumbled, walking back to the beach.

"Who's up for some volleyball?" Zoey asked, glaring at the White Ranger.

1-2-3-4-5

After putting on some dry clothes, they decided to split up and play four on four volleyball. Girl vs boys. Zoey and Jenna had brought tank tops and jean shorts to wear for non-water games. They were in the middle of their third game when Cam contacted them.

"We've got a problem. As long as that ship remains cloaked-"

"I've no way to track it," Cyber Cam finished for him, causing the girls to grin.

"Any word from Shane?" Hunter asked.

"His frequency is still jammed," Cam told them.

"He must be close to the source of the disturbance," Cyber Cam added.

"Let us know if anything changes," Hunter said as the other walked over.

"Birthday or not, I think we better head back," Tori suggested.

"Yeah, get outta here before some Kelzacks show up," Dustin agreed.

Jenna, rolling her eyes, slapped him on the back of the head, "Ow!"

"Aw, you just had to say it, didn't you?" Blake asked, pointing over to where Kelzacks crept between a couple of rocks, their backs to them.

"And that's why she slapped you." Zoey said, thumping Dustin on the side of the head.

"Hey!" He glared at her, rubbing his head.

"Come on guys," Hunter said, rolling his eyes, "let's check it out." They ran off and hid between some rocks, seeing Marah and Kapri, setting up a party.

"It's always those two." Raina glared. Her hatred for them, especially Marah, was obvious. Especially after the way she played Dustin.

"Hey!" Blake called, earning their attention. "If an alien freak throws a party, and nobody shows up, is it still a party?" he called with a laugh, and the two groaned.

"Aw man, I hate it when they do that," Kapri whined. "Come on!" she called to Marah, who was frowning.

"Yeah, I know, wait. I'm just thinking about it." she told her sister, which made the Rangers start laughing. "If an alien freak throws a party..." she wondered. Kapri rolled her eyes.

"Would you come on!" she yelled, hitting her sister. "Hey Kelzacks!"

The Kelzaks went at the Rangers as the teens jumped off the rocks and started fighting. They used the decoration as weapons, destroying the party area that was being set up. Spinning and kicking one of the Kelzacks back, Zoey ducked to avoid a chair being thrown at her. "Hey!" She sent a beam of light at it, sending the space freak into the rocks. "A chair? Really?" She flipped another before turner to Jenna, "When did this become the WWE?" Smiling, they punched another as came flying at them.

"Yo, dude," Andy said, landing beside them, "I love that show."

"Guys, we've got a bigger problem!" Cam contacted them as they fought. "Zurgane is taking a new Zord out for a test drive, and I can only access the Wind Zord portals," he told them, making them groan.

"Hey Tor, you ready?" Dustin looked at the birthday girl.

"Oh yeah. No-one ruins my birthday," Tori growled.

"We'll take care of this mess," Hunter told them, and they straightened up.

"Ready?"

"Ready!"

"NINJA STORM!"

"FIRE STORM!"

"ICE STORM!"

"LIGHTNING STORM!"

"THUNDER STORM!"

"RANGER FORM, HA!"

"Power of Earth!"

"Power of Water!"

"Power of Fire!"

"Power of Ice!"

"Power of Thunder!"

"Power of Lightning!"

"Let's go," Tori called, and as the others started fighting off the Kelzacks, Tori and Dustin formed the Storm Megazord.

Back on the ground, the remaining Rangers restarted the fight with the Kelzacks. Pulling out her Glaive, Zoey started slashing at the Kelzacks. "Hey, Raina," she called out, looking at the White Ranger, "I'm surprised you haven't gone over and attacked Marah." Flipping over, she kicked one of the Kelzacks at Raina who sliced at it with her twin swords. "I mean, you took what happened with her and Beevil pretty personally."

"You know, I am showing some pretty good restraint." She connected her swords together and activated her crossbow. "White Lightning! Static Shock!" Her crossbow sent out a sheet of white electricity, destroying most of the Kelzacks.

"I'd say you're handling it pretty well," Andy said, using his staff to fight, "Does Dustin know you're crushing on him?"

"No. And I'd appreciate you not mentioning it to him either."

Everyone just laughed, knowing Dustin reciprocated those feelings, and regrouped.

"Hello! Losers!" They laughed even more at Kapri's whining.

"Does this mean we have to find a new location for our reunion?" Marah asked, looking said.

"Yeah." Her sister said, looking upset.

"What reunion?" Zoey whispered.

"Yeah, seriously. Who liked them enough to want a reunion with them?" The White Rangers asked, as the others just laughed some more.

The sisters glared at them just before disappearing, taking the Kelzacks with them.

"Ah, they bailed!" Hunter groaned, "Power down!" Everyone demorphed and looked around.

"They were really going to hold some sort of reunion here?" Jenna asked, smiling.

"Who cares. The less I see of those two, the better." Raina start mumbling in Spanish.

"You know, you speak that better than your brother," Zoey grinned, "and watch your language. I also speak it better than him."

"That's because he never cared to learn it. Every time our mom went on a rant, he just tuned her out." Crossing her arms, Raina sighed, "I didn't have that ability."

"Well, Sensei picked a really bad day to take off," Blake said

"No kidding!" The girls said simultaneously.

"That's just creepy." Andy shook his head, "You three need to stop spending time together."

Hunter picked up a dead flower, looking at it in confusion, "Let's get back to ops," He said, "see if the others are ok."

"Right." Everyone agreed before Ninja streaking away.

1-2-3-4-5

"The Storm and the Samurai Star Megazords are badly damaged," Cam told them as they walked into Ninja Ops. "It'll take hours, maybe days to make the repairs," he said.

"What about the other Zords?" Hunter asked.

"No luck accessing them yet," Cam shook his head.

"Some day off." Blake muttered.

"This must be the worst birthday ever." Dustin commented as he put an arm around Tori sympathetically.

"I can't even think about that right now," Tori mumbled. "I just have this really bad feeling that Shane is in trouble." she said, looking upset.

"Don't worry, Tori." Zoey said, looking confident, "Shane's a great Ranger. He can handle himself. We have to have faith in him." She looked around at everyone, "We have to believe that no matter, Shane can handle whatever is thrown at him."

This was fun to write, guys. I'm gonna be starting a new job soon, so my writing is gonna be slower than usual. I've gotten some pretty good responses to my story so far, and I'm going to try my best to keep it up. My poll for Dino Thunder now has four votes total. But only four things have been voted on. If you guys, as the readers, don't like my poll suggestions, leave your own in the comments. Tell me what you think should happen. I always look at the comments guys. Well, when my internet is working. Another reason why I'm not posting as often.
