[[Eric POV]]

I head towards the elevator Tobias had used to go up and see Tris but Matthew was waiting at the bottom for me, "if you are looking for Mr. Eaton, he was escorted this way so he may calm down." I followed him down a few corridors, my gut telling me something was wrong. I was led outside and over to an aircraft, as soon as I came to the mouth opening Rommit was standing there with a gun pointed at me. "Get on." I looked over and saw Four and Byron sitting there with guns pointed at them as well. I walked on board and sat next to Byron, "what the hell did you two get us into?" Tobias only shook his head. "We have to find a way out of this they will be going after Kara next..." Byron whispered to me, I figured this had to do with Four going after Tris, Byron probably stepped in to help and here we all are. We were being taken to a place far off where they will more than likely kill us to get to the girls. I saw Mathew whispering to Four and then him give me a look, darting his eyes between me and another guard, I got the idea. I nudged Byron, "hold on, we're going down." He understood immediately and Four and I took that time to jump up and start attacking the few soldiers that were with us. Rounds went off and someone shot the pilot, I figured we could knock him out and land, but this was a way down too. We all held on to something, since the hatch was opened, apparently they thought to shoot us and Sparta kick us out the door.

The chopper spiraled out and finally crashed close to the building we hid from the rain in on our way to the bureau. We shuffled out, catching our breath from the wind being knocked out of us on landing. I looked over and noticed Rommit sputtering up blood and spit, I knew I would take my chance now for what he did. I walked over to his crawling body and kicked him in the side, hard. He coughed more and landed on his back, I knelt down, holding him by his shirt collar. "I am going to enjoy this…" He opened his mouth, more than likely to beg, I hit him right in it. The skin on my knuckles broke from hitting his mouth so hard; his teeth tore at my flesh. He cried out and Four came over to stop me, dragging Mathew behind him. I shook my head, looking over at Byron, "he tried to rape Kara out in the fringe." Byron got up and grabbed Four by his forearm, pulling him and Mathew towards the building, allowing me to take my time on Rommit. "You aren't going to like this; I will make you suffer first." I hit him over and over until I could feel my arm about to give out; I doubt you could make out his features at this point. He finally stopped screaming but I could see his chest still rising and falling, I leaned down to whisper in his ear, as I pulled a large knife out from one of his side clips. "Maybe you will learn in your next life." I stabbed him roughly in his gut, ripping the knife up towards his chest. He let out only a whimper before I watched his body go limp. I left his corpse to rot as I made my way into the sham of a building the others were in, Mathew had finally come to and was sitting on a beam with his arms folded, looking like a frightened child.

"Was that really necessary?" I looked up at Four, from cleaning my knife off in some of the water dripping down. "Tell me, if it would have been Tris that he tried that on, would you have let him live, your girl and your child being attacked like that, again?" He looked down, "no, but I wouldn't have tortured him like you did." I smiled, resheathing my new knife, "and that is where we are different, even Kara would have tortured him and I bet Tris wouldn't have, although I am sure she would have also let him live. We all have a common goal here; we just have different paths of getting there. So far you have been ho-hum about what Kara says and does, we should stick to whatever plan she has; they have all worked so far. But this...now that was all me and my plan." He nodded, "well she isn't here now so we need to improvise. I want you to take Byron and Mathew and head back to the bureau. I know Kara will kill me if I didn't send you back to her, Mathew needs to tell Tris I abandoned you all for my own accord. I am not sure yet if she is still following David, but she will know for sure to quit once she hears that. She knows I would never leave someone helpless, and no offense Matt but you kind of are. I am sending you two because my mother will more than likely kill you and we can't have that. I need her to catch me though, I need to talk some sense into her about going to war with Johanna's Allegiant army; this has to end." I agreed and looked to the others to see if they were ready to go, other than some bumps and bruises they looked fine to travel. We took off on foot and hurried back towards the bureau while Four went in the opposite direction back to Chicago.

[[Back to Kara's POV]]

We had just watched Edgar capture Tobias and him trying to talk sense into his mother, he had no idea about the memory serum, or it being used on his father. He did look like he was up to something at the end there, but we had to figure out a plan. "I need to see David." Tris demanded, and I tried to stop her but it was no use, "Caleb grab Will and Chris and find Nita, tell her we need help from above. She will understand." I followed Tris towards the lift to David's office while Caleb left his station to get the others. "Tris I don't know what you think David can do about any of this…" She insisted on going so I jumped in with her and we rode up to his office. She hauled out of the lift quickly and over to where he was sitting, "so what have you decided about the factions? Are you going to reboot the project?" He didn't say anything to her, "You're planning on wiping the memory of Chicago and then what? You were never planning on helping the Allegiant were you?"

"Tris those people were cruel to you, they killed your parents." "For you to spend all that time watching us grow up you have learned nothing about us David." He turned to me but Tris stopped him before he could speak, "Four is there." He turned back to her, "and he is damaged, they all are." I was already making my way to his balcony where his ship sat, "where are you going?" Tris followed me, knowing full well my intentions. Mathew, Eric and my father burst through his elevator, we all stopped to look at them. Mathew looked worse for wear but Eric and my father looked stronger than ever, and ready for a fight. "Four left us in the outskirts, abandoned us there while we were unconscious," Matt began to ramble, but I looked to Tris and she knew that meant there was definitely a plan brewing in Four's mind. Eric and Byron came over to us, knowing they could read what I was thinking. "We're going to borrow your ship David…and don't plan on us coming back." "You can't do this!" "Watch us."

We all climbed in with Byron at the helm since he could fly it, I let Tris sit next to him to help navigate. Caleb with Will and Chris were in another ship next to us, I leaned down to Tris. "I hope you don't mind but I got a few friends together." She smiled and we took off, I could see other crafts coming up from behind us. "We either need to step on it or shoot back Byron." "I got this; your old man still has some tricks up his sleeve." I smiled and he sped off, Caleb was flying the other one and was smart enough to figure out how it worked and was able to keep up with us quite well. I saw the other ships coming around to cut us off, they started shooting at the glass. We could hear David over the radio, "I want them brought down safely, and alive. Kill the others but I need Kara or Tris brought back here!" "Fat chance of that happening, why don't we show them who they are really messing with?" Byron let me take control over from there, I began firing back at their guns first and then at their propellers in order to take them down. One went quietly but the second one saw what I was doing and was dodging my attacks, "ok we can play hardball, no problem." He managed to hang in front of me so I took opportunity to speed up and hit him directly, being so close threw him off and I was able to start shooting, knocking his guns out instantly. "Go ahead and follow us but good luck bringing us down." By this time we had just passed through the barrier and were heading across the desert.

I looked over to see Chris holding up fingers, "What is she doing?" I smiled already ahead of her, "Caleb must have told her to let us know he changed radio frequencies. I hit the few numbers she showed me and was able to hear them, "there is an incognito button that will make the ships invisible, that is more than likely how they managed to spy on Chicago and drop off supplies without being noticed." I looked around and found what he was talking about; I hit it as we got closer to the city. Caleb went right in and headed over to the main building while I held off on the outskirts of the wall. "There she is…" My dad looked down and saw my mother's body, "let me out." The others protested but I understood and appreciated that he would risk being seen just to get her somewhere safe. It wasn't right how he left us or how I left her, and I think this was his way of correcting it. I slid the door open and he hopped out, "I love you Kara," I smiled to him, "I know." I closed the hatch and flew to where Caleb was hovering.

"Ok Caleb, stay here and keep that thing hovering, Will I need you to do the same for this one. Be our eyes and ears, these things should be able to scan and read the layout for the buildings." Chris jumped out jacket on and gun at the ready. She had an extra jacket for Tris, Will got in our craft while I jumped down and Eric handed me my jacket and gun. "Damn, how did I not notice how smoking hot you looked?" I turned to him while putting my jacket on and shouldering my weapon, I smiled at him and we kissed before following the others into the building. "Okay if Peter is here then he has contact with David, which means everyone knows we are headed this way or that we're already here. Look alive and use your drones." Tris looked at her jacket and glove; I remember she didn't train with us so she didn't know how to use them. I pulled my hand up and flicked my fingers showing her how it worked; I pressed the button on the side of my head gear and then hers. She caught on within seconds and we took off down the hallways. We took out man after man that Evelyn had put up on guard, Chris and Eric took off down another corridor that would loop around back to the main control room and meet us inside for back up and to take out any that could surprise us from the other side. Tris and I kept focus and stopped by a cell to break Four out before preceding inside, she caught him up to speed on the memory serum while he shouldered his jacket and weapon, preparing for war.

The doors opened with Evelyn and Peter in a glass encased room, "Evelyn don't do this." She looked over to us all, "I have to, I need to restore peace, and Johanna brought this on herself." "You don't understand Evelyn that serum will filtrate out into the entire city, you won't just erase Johanna and the Allegiant's memories, you will erase all of Chicago." She looked confused and turned to Peter; he shook his head to reassure her we were lying. "You won't be my mother anymore, I won't remember you and you won't remember me." She took a second to hear Four out and we saw it got to her, she tried to run over and hit the button to stop it but Peter shot her first. Four pounded on the glass in anger, "Peter stop this, why are you siding with David. Don't you think after he gets you to erase Chicago he won't do the same to you? You're dangerous to him, someone who only takes sides of those who will win. You're only signing your own life away as well." "You don't understand Kara, I'm doing this for you. I saw what Rommit tried to do to you out in the Fringe... you don't know how powerless and guilty I felt watching that. David said if I help do this, he wouldn't hurt you. That he would give us a ship and leave, go anywhere we wanted... I need you safe Kara."

I shook my head, leaning it on the glass. "I'm here with you Peter, I'm here now... David can't protect me from what is about to happen, only you can. What if that stuff erases my memory too?" "Then maybe you can forget what I did to you, maybe you can love me again... if I have to lose something, like your memories, to ensure the safety of your life.. I'm willing to take that chance. I sighed and banged my head gently on the glass wall. "That isn't how love works Peter; erasing my memories will only serve to hurt me, and if you cared about me in any way you would not want to do that to me." "It will help you, I promise, you will forget your dad ever existed. You can forget what I did to you, everything else I tried to do to you. You can forget your mother died, that you are divergent, all of it can be wiped out." I looked at him, dead in his eyes, "You will also erase the childhood where I fell in love with you. You would erase the love I had for my mother, the bond we made. You will erase all the good memories too, wouldn't that be worse than keeping a few bad ones? And what will I do when I wake up with no memory of being pregnant? Can you look me in the eyes and tell me you could live with the fear and panic that will instill in me?"

By the time he thought about it enough to change his mind, the serum started to slowly fill up the area, which means it was already pumping outside too. It also started to fill in the office where he was, he ran over to try and shut it off but it wouldn't stop. "David changed the codes, it won't shut off!" I slammed my fist into the glass, and David's voice could be overheard throughout the building. "I told you this wouldn't work but you had to go anyway. Don't worry once your memory is erased I will bring you and Tris back here safely and raise you as my own, your baby included. You will soon learn to understand what I am trying to do here." I pressed the com in my ear, "Caleb I need another way to shut this down, now!" "I am looking hold on," "We don't have time for you to look." "Okay, if you go back out and to the left there is a vent that leads to the main control area. You can turn all the power off from there; I don't think there is a way to bypass that system." I took off running immediately finding the air vent in the hallway and saw I was too large to fit, there was an access door next to it so I took that instead. When I got down I noticed the door in front of me locked and could hear David's voice again. "I will not let you stop this; it is progress and a new beginning." "Not a beginning that I want." I sent my drones up and through the vents in my place; I could hear Tris screaming at me to hurry up. I found the main control panel and used them to start shooting at them, David was yelling for me to stop and understand him but I only kept shooting. The lights went out and I could no longer hear David arguing with me. "You did it babe, the smoke stopped, a few people might have been affected but it is better than the whole city." I sighed in relief and turned around to head back up to meet them when I came face to face with Edgar...
