It has been a few days since their big hunt, but the dinosaurs returned before they were even noticed that they were gone. Everything is calm now, but winter is just around the corner, growing closer everyday.
Dinosaurs are beginning to sense the change in climate and are beginning to migrate south. However, some are going to stay and endure it.
But, today will be special...for Velcie, as it will be a day to remember.
Velcie was laying under a tree close to Fluttershy's cottage. Fluttershy was inside, tending to her animals. Velcie was just resting, when a familiar smell caught her attention. She shot her eyes open and raised her head up.
She sniffed the air before she got up and began walking to the edge of the Everfree Forest. Fluttershy was feeding some squirrels when she saw Velcie. Velcie stopped a few meters from the edge of the forest.
She remained motionless for a few moments before she sniffed again. Then, she let out a caw. However, there was no response. She did it again, but this time, a response.
Velcie's eyes widened before she became excited. She let out more caws, pacing back and forth excitingly. After about a minute, movement was seen among the bushes. Velcie stopped and watched closely.
After a few seconds of rustling, a head poked out from the bushes. It was another Velociraptor. It looked like Velcie, but a little bit smaller. The Velociraptor walked out from the bushes.
The two stared at each other before the smaller one walked up and nuzzled against Velcie and Velcie embraced it, as it was sort of like a hug, for this was Velcie's sister. She was smaller b/c she was younger.
Suddenly, another caw was heard as another Velociraptor came out from the bushes. Velcie's sister looked back as the newcomer skidded to a stop. The Velociraptor stared at Velcie and she did the same.
Then, the Velociraptor went up and nuzzled her and she did the same for this was her brother. He's a little skinnier than she is, but they are the same size.
Suddenly, a deeper caw was heard before a large Velociraptor appeared from the bushes. The newcomer is bigger than Velcie and her siblings and is older in appearance.
The Velociraptor has a scar over his left eye, but this is Velcie's father. She immediately nuzzled him before he gave her a big smile.
"How did you guys get here!" Velcie said with ecstasy.
"It was the weirdest thing" her brother said.
"See, we were looking everywhere after we lost you" her sister said.
"And suddenly, we were here, in this weird place" her brother added.
"I'm so glad to see you guys" Velcie said.
"And we're happy that you're safe, honey" Velcie's father said before they all got into a big group hug.
Fluttershy watched the whole thing from her cottage. She wondered who these strange Velociraptors were, but the more she thought about it, the more she realized it. This was her pack that she told about.
Fluttershy wanted to meet them, but she was afraid that things could go awry. So, she waited until the right moment.
"So" Velcie's father began, "Where have you been on your own this whole time?"
"Well, not entirely on my own. Early on, I met a friend who helped me out. She's new, and I doubt that you'd know what she is, but she claims to be something called a 'pony'" Velcie said.
"Oh, did you eat her?" her brother asked.
"No! What is wrong with you? She is my best friend and, without her, who knows where I'd be" Velcie retorted.
"May we meet her?" her sister asked. Velcie thought about it. It would be nice, but at the same time, she knows how Fluttershy is, and the results could be disastrous.
"Not right now. She's tending to her animals right now, which are not for eating" she said with a growl, looking at her brother.
"Well, we have some news as well" Velcie's father said before he let out a caw.
Suddenly, there was rustling before another Velociraptor came out of the brush. The newcomer was a little bigger than Velcie and a male. He was more buffed than her brother.
"This is a new member of the pack. I'd like you to meet Vellon" Velcie's father said. Vellon shyly smiled at Velcie and Velcie smiled back before blushing a bit.
"He joined a few weeks ago and is my main raptor, of course next to Velox" Velcie's father said, gesturing to her brother.
"Well, he's just as much of a brother as I could ask for" Vellon said before he grabbed Velox under his arm, giving him a noogie, frazzling up Velox's head feathers.
Velox just shook his head and it straightened his feathers. The two then looked at each other before smiling.
"Well, it looks like he is already part of the family" Velcie said with a small laugh and a smile.
"So, besides this...pony, have you made any other friends?" her sister asked.
"Actually, yes, but you'll meet them later" Velcie said.
"Are they more ponies, or Velociraptors. If they're Velociraptors..." Velcie's father said, growing more aggressive.
"No, daddy, they're not more Velociraptors, or ponies. Do you really think I would leave this pack, especially since you guys are my family" Velcie said. Velcie's father apologized for his growing anger.
"He's been recently thinking of Mom again" Velcie's sister replied. Velcie tried to hide that memory. Then, she went up to her father.
"Dad, I won't ever forget what happened to Mom, but we must look towards the future" she said.
"She used to say that to me. You so have your Mom's spirit, sweetie" her father replied. Velcie tried not to cry at that last remark, but she held it back.
"So, are you going to tell us who your friends are?" Vellon asked.
"Oh, right! Well, anyways, they're dinosaurs" Velcie said. Her family was surprised to here that.
"Like, dinosaurs...of different species?" Velox questioned
"Yes, but they are not what you think they are. We have a strong friendship among each other. They have been there for me, and will continue to do so as that's what friends are for" Velcie said.
That's what really calmed them down, as normally, dinosaurs weren't friends with each other in terms of different species.
"Anyways, I'd like to introduce you to your new home...Equestria!" Velcie said, "And this is where you will be staying". She gestured to Fluttershy's cottage.
They followed her to Fluttershy's cottage.
"What is that?" Velox asked.
"That is a building, or, more specifically, a cottage. This is where ponies live. Even though they are animals, they are a lot smarter than we are" Velcie said, in which she continued to explain everything.
"So, how long have you been here?" Vellon asked.
"A few months" Velcie replied, but this really shocked them.
"Well, I'm proud of her" Velcie's father said. She smiled back at him. Soon, they reached the foot of Fluttershy's cottage.
"Now, you all wait here. I'm going to get my friend" Velcie said before she let out a caw. Soon enough, Fluttershy appeared at the door.
"Hi, Velcie..." Fluttershy said before she was cut off by the 4 new Velociraptors.
"Who are these dinosaurs?" Fluttershy questioned.
"Fluttershy, allow me to introduce my family" Velcie said.
"Hello" she waved her hoof. The four just nervously smiled back before slightly waving.
"Is this your pack you were talking about?" Fluttershy asked before Velcie nodded.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Fluttershy, my best friend" Velcie said and Fluttershy smiled.
"It's a pleasure to meet you" Fluttershy said.
"Can she understand you?" Velox asked.
"Yes, she can" Velcie said.
"And I can understand you" Fluttershy said. Velox jumped a little bit at that.
Velcie's father stepped forward.
"Nice to meet you, Fluttershy. I'm Velcie's old raptor, but you can just call me Talon" Velcie's father, named Talon, said.
"You're her father?" Fluttershy questioned and he nodded.
"I also thought Velcie was the name I gave her" Fluttershy said, bamboozled. Talon couldn't help but laugh.
"Good guess, and what a coincidence" Talon said, Anyways, I'd like to introduce you to Velox, Velcie's brother, and Velcie's sister, Vivienne."
"Who's this?" Fluttershy asked, gesturing to Vellon.
"Oh, he is not related, but he is part of the pack. His name is Vellon" Talon said.
"Nice to meet you all" Fluttershy said with a smile.
"You guys are going to love it here" Velcie said.
"I hope you told them about my animals" Fluttershy said.
"Don't worry, they know not to eat them" Velcie said. But, with that said, they noticed Velox was missing. They heard munching as they looked to see him chewing on something.
"Velox, what are you doing?" Velcie questioned. He soon turned around to see a tail hanging out of his mouth. Fluttershy and the others gasped. Fluttershy was just about to faint, but Talon stepped in.
"AYE! Spit that out, spit that out!" Talon said before he walked up to his son and smacked the back of his head. He spat out a squirrel, who was covered in saliva. The squirrel crawled away with wide eyes.
Vivienne quickly ran over and picked up the squirrel. The squirrel tried to crawl away, but she kept it in her claws.
"Awwww, are you okay little guy" she asked. The squirrel, terrified in her fingers, slightly nodded.
"Oh, you poor little thing" she said before she held the squirrel to her chest.
Velcie and Talon were scolding Velox, while Fluttershy stood in a frozen position, still gasping. Vellon walked over and waved his claw in front of her face.
"Hey, you okay?" Vellon asked, but no response came from her. Velcie then turned and came back to Fluttershy.
"Fluttershy! Snap out of it!" she said, shaking and slapping her before she finally came back. She immediately went to Vivienne and the squirrel.
At this point, Vivienne was nuzzling the little guy's chest, making him squeak in laughter.
"Is he okay!?" Fluttershy asked.
"Don't worry, he's fine. He was just in a bit of shock" Vivienne replied. Fluttershy sighed in relief before her eyes turned to Velox, her expression changing from anxious, to angry.
She takes to the air and slowly flies over to Velox, which Velcie and Talon were still scolding him. The two noticed her, and Velcie knew what was coming.
"What are you doing..." Talon asked, but Velcie gestured him to back away.
"Now, you listen here, mister," Fluttershu began, "Just because you think you're a predator, doesn't mean you need to hunt down cute, little furry animals! As long as I am here, not a single dinosaur, or animal, is going to be mean, or a bully! You got that?" Fluttershy said, giving Velox the STARE.
Velox cowered in fear. He was so overcome by it, he couldn't even respond.
"I said, you got that?" Fluttershy asked. Velox continued to cower in fear, until the intensity of the stare broke him loose and he began to cry.
"I was just hungry" he sobbed, "Is that to much to ask!" He began to weep and sob as tears begin to let loose from his eyes and fill the ground under him. At this point, Fluttershy begins to feel bad.
"Oh, it's okay. I understand how not eating can cause somepony to be cranky. Tell you what, I'll cook you all up something to eat" Fluttershy said. The Velociraptors all agreed.
With that said, they soon head back to the cottage. It was all new for Velcie's pack, but they believed that this could work.
Later, over lunch, Velcie and her family sat down under the shade of the tree Velcie always slept under. Fluttershy put bowls at their feet and presented to them with her own 'Dinosaur Chow'.
Fluttershy made it for carnivores so they didn't have to always eat meat. Fluttershy sat down with them, and Angel was with her as well. They had both brought their own salads.
Velox eyed Angel as food, but he kept his urges back...for now. Angel was a little more uncomfortable with more of these things here, but he dealt with it as it was Fluttershy's way.
"So, Velcie" Fluttershy began, finishing a bite of her salad, "You never told me about your mother. Is she here?". Anxiety began to build among the group and Fluttershy noticed it.
"Oh" Fluttershy said, "I-I'm...sorry".
"It's okay" Vivienne said.
"What happened?" Fluttershy wondered. Talon took in a deep breath before sighing and closing his eyes.
"It was a few years ago" Talon began, "It was just a normal day at our oasis. Velox had went on patrol, when he alerted us with a caw. A pack of Velociraptors had appeared. Unfortunately, it was a pack that lived close by that we were always in competition with for the food in the area. They apparently wanted the whole area to themselves. We were outnumbered, 5 to 7. Since Velcie, Velox, and Vivienne were kids, the odds were greater. However, Claw, my mate and their mom, fought them off, giving us time to escape. But, she sacrificed herself just to save us. The worst part was, we watched her die before our eyes. I helped her, but I barely escaped with my life, which is how I got this scar. A Velociraptor's toe claw got me there while I was helping fight. I'm lucky he didn't get my eye."
Fluttershy was speechless after hearing that terrible story.
"That's awful. I...I had no idea..." Fluttershy suddenly said, trying to hold back her tears.
"It's okay, Fluttershy" Velcie said, "You didn't know"
"It's haunted Dad however for the longest time" Velox said.
"I've tried so hard to forget that day, but no matter how hard I try, it always comes back" Talon said, "If I see those Velociraptors again, they're going to regret what they did to her."
Talon clutched his claws hard before letting out a menacing roar. Fluttershy was scared a bit from that, but she regained herself.
"Dad, it's okay. If they ever show up, we'll help you" Velox said, putting a claw on his shoulder. Talon turned to his son with a small smile.
"That's right" Vivienne said.
"Yes" Velcie said.
"I'll try and help, but I'm not that much of a fighter" Fluttershy said, "But what they did to your Mom was wrong!"
"Well, it's the way life can be" Vellon said. They glared at him, but, the more they thought about it, the more they realized he was right.
"Well, Fluttershy, you don't need to fight. You can just use your stare" Velcie said. Fluttershy smiled and blushed at that fact.
Through the rest of the day, Velcie's pack rekindled their lost love and strengthened their bond with Fluttershy. They will eventually meet Velcie's dinosaur companions, but that's for another time.
However, things become heated as trouble is coming their way.
Next time: Winter arrives, and something happens that will break Rainbow's heart.
Author's Note: Hi everybody! WOW! I know. A chapter in just a few days! Well, when I said I would focus on Prehistoric Pals as soon as I got a computer, I wasn't lying.
Anyways, so there you have it! Velcie has reunited with her pack, and you got a little bit of backstory. I also want to apologize for not putting a Next Time in the previous chapter.
