Hailey walked up the stairs and to Kim's desk to set a vase of flowers down.

Kim smiled and looked up, "What's this for?"

"For the baby shower," Hailey smiled, "And as a sorry for my son pushing Cara off a chair yesterday."

Kim laughed softly and shook her head. She stood to give Hailey a quick hug, "Thank you, they're beautiful."

"You're welcome," Hailey rubbed her back before stepping back.

"How is he?" Kim leaned against the side of her desk.

Hailey sighed, "Well, we moved his bedtime up half an hour for the week and he's pretty mad about that. He says he's mostly mad at himself, though, which worries me."

Kim nodded, "Did he go to sleep right away then last night?"

Hailey scoffed, "No. He cried for a while, but he seemed to wear himself out around 9pm, so whatever."

"I can't imagine how hard it is," Kim said.

"It…" Hailey took a deep breath, "I don't know. He just gets in his head and it's hard to pull him out sometimes, you know? It's like," she looked around and spotted Jay talking to Hank, "It's like convincing Jay we're in Chicago after a nightmare, but every other day and takes twice as long."

"Gosh," Kim breathed, "You're amazing, Hailey, do you realize that?"

Hailey shook her head, "I'm not. I'm overwhelmed is what I am."

"Yeah," Kim nodded, "And that's completely understanding."

Hailey ran a hand through her hair, "But god I love him – I love them both."

Kim smiled a little, "That is very obvious."

Hailey bit back a smile, "And soon there will be a third."

"It's exciting! You've definitely got a lot of love coming at you," Kim said.

"Thank you," Hailey lightly touched Kim's arm, "If we all get off early today, want to come help us make sense of the nursery?"

"I'd be honored," Kim laughed.

"Perfect," Hailey smiled and walked back to her desk.

"Hey," Jay set his hand on her shoulder, "I might have to work late tonight."

Hailey's smile fell and she sat down, "We were going to start thinking about the nursery."

"And I want to do that, but look," Jay showed her his phone, "Everything's been leading to tonight and I have an in…"

Hailey blinked and listened to Jay drone on about the case and why he was the only one who could try to do the deal. She swallowed and rubbed her sweaty hands against her jeans as she nodded along.

"Okay," she finally breathed, "Um, not a problem. Kim said she'd come over and I'm sure Vanessa would join to help us get started."

"Perfect," Jay kissed her head, "I'll have Kevin with me the whole time."

"Sure," Hailey numbly nodded and looked at her email.

"You're the best, baby," Jay smiled and sat at his own desk.

Hailey weakly smiled at him before grabbing her bottle of water and taking a big drink.

Hailey parked the car in the school parking lot and ran through the crowd of people with Adam to get to the front of the school.

"Hey, excuse us," Adam pushed past a dad with a stroller.

"Sorry," Hailey breathed while dodging a mom with her twins.

"You're late!" Cara yelled.

"And we're sorry," Adam quickly grabbed her and hugged her tightly.

"Ten minutes is a long time," Drew said.

"I know," Hailey nodded, "I'm so sorry, sweetheart."

Drew put his folder down and hugged her around the stomach.

Hailey closed her eyes and set her hand on Drew's head, "Thank you."

"Where's Kim?" Cara asked.

"Working with Drew's dad," Adam said, "We need to stop back at the district to pick my car up before we go home."

Drew looked up at Hailey, "Dad's working?"

"Yeah," Hailey lightly brushed Drew's hair from his eyes.

He winced and stepped back. He swallowed hard then picked up his folder, "For a long time?"

Hailey nodded, "I'm sorry, honey."

Drew sighed, "I have something really important to show you though."

"Like what?" Hailey squatted down.

"But Dad's not here," Drew said.

"How about you show us," Adam bounced Cara in his arms, "We'd love to see what you've got there."

Hailey smiled, "Sound good?"

"I guess," Drew opened his folder and pulled out a piece of paper, "Look, I haven't scratched in five school days."

Hailey's smile widened, "Drew! That's awesome!"

Cara leaned over to look at the paper, "Whoa, you got some cool stickers."

Drew's face lit up and he nodded fast, "They are pretty cool."

"That's really great," Adam held his fist out, "I'm happy for you."

"Thanks," Drew laughed softly and touched his fist to Adam's.

"I'm so proud of you," Hailey lightly held Drew's face, "So proud."

"It's just school days," Drew shrugged, "I scratched a lot yesterday."

"I know, but school days is a good start," Hailey kissed his forehead.

"Do you think Dad will be proud?" Drew asked.

"Oh your dad's going to super proud," Adam smiled, "He's gonna want to hang this on the fridge."

"Well, he can't, this needs to stay in my behavior folder," Drew explained while putting it back, "But thank you."

Adam chuckled and winked at Hailey, "You're welcome."

Hailey smiled, "I agree, Dad's going to love this."

"We need to go," Cara lightly patted Adam's face.

"Yeah?" Adam smirked at her and kissed her nose, "And why's that?"

"I have to go potty," Cara said and held up two fingers, "You know? Like real bad."

"That's not clean talk," Drew shook his head.

Hailey laughed and set a hand on Drew's back to lead him to the car, "It's fine."

"Just saying," Drew shrugged.

"Drew, you're something else," Adam chuckled.

"I hope it's a good something," Drew said.

"A very good something," Adam nodded and reached out to squeeze Drew's shoulder.

Jay walked up the stairs to the bullpen with Kim and smiled, "Hey! I didn't know you were going to be here."

Drew smiled and waved at him from Jay's desk, "I wanted to show you something, so Mom's letting me do homework here for a little bit."

"That's great," Jay dragged a chair to his desk and sat next to Drew, "I'm happy you came. Where's Mom?"

"She said she needed to talk to some mean people," Drew shrugged and pointed down the hall, "Probably a criminal."

"Oh," Jay slowly nodded, "Well, what did you want to show me?"

"Here," Drew pulled his folder out of his backpack and set it on the table, "Open it."

Jay chuckled and went through the daily behavior log, "Nice job."

"No, no," Drew pushed Jay's hands away and grabbed the sticker chart, "Look! Five school days without scratching!"

"Great!" Jay smiled and hugged Drew to his side, "I'm so proud of you."

"Mom and Officer Adam said you would be," Drew nodded.

Jay nodded, "Well, I know you've been working hard at it. Soon enough you won't even scratch at home."

"I don't know," Drew put the paper away, "That seems really hard."

Jay raised his eyebrows, "Why would that be hard?"

"I don't know," Drew sighed, "It's easier to not scratch for seven hours than a whole day at home."

"But Mom and I can help you not scratch," Jay said.

"Mom said you're not coming home tonight," Drew zipped his folder back in his backpack.

"Yes," Jay slowly nodded, "But I can still help you."

"When you're home," Drew pointed out.

"Well, yeah," Jay breathed.

Drew shrugged and went back to his homework.

Jay sighed and moved his chair around Drew to look at his computer.

"Cool, Dad's here, let's go, Drew," Hailey said while walking into the room.

"Okay," Drew stood and put his homework in his backpack quickly.

"You don't want to stay for a bit?" Jay asked, standing and putting his hands in his pockets.

"Drew said he'll help me clean out the office a little so that when Kim comes over we can get to work," Hailey put her hand out.

"I just have a little bit of homework left, I need to finish reading something," Drew said.

"That's fine," Hailey took his hand.

"Bye Dad," Drew waved.

Jay quickly caught up with them as they walked toward the stairs, "Hails," he grabbed her free hand.

"Yes?" Hailey stopped with a sigh.

"What's going on?" Jay asked under his breath.

"I'm going home with our son," Hailey said coolly.

Jay bit his lip, "Did I do something?"

Hailey looked in his eyes, "No, nothing."

Jay glanced down to Drew staring up at them. He breathed out and tugged Hailey against him, "I love you," he whispered in her ear.

Hailey closed her eyes for a moment before whispering back, "Love you too." She stepped away with a deep breath and walked Drew downstairs to her car.

Hailey huffed and pushed the desk into the hallway.

"Mom, I can help?" Drew said while scooting on the desk chair out of the room.

"I've got this one," Hailey sighed and gave it one last push before straightening up.

"Is Cara coming with her mom?" Drew asked.

"Would that be okay?" Hailey crossed her arms.

Drew blushed, "Mom."

"Drew," Hailey said.

Drew sighed, "I'm a nice kid."

"I know you are," Hailey knelt in front of him, "You are very kind."

"I will be nice to Cara," Drew said quietly, "I made a mistake, Mom," he played with his fingers.

Hailey nodded, "I know," she gently took his hands.

Drew's lip wavered, "I'm sorry."

Hailey sat up and pulled him against her, "I know you are."

There was a knock on the front door before it was pushed open, "Hailey! You home?"

Hailey kissed the top of Drew's head then hurried to the stair railing, "We're up here!"

"Sit down and take your shoes off," Kim said.

Hailey smiled down at Kim and Cara, "Thank you for coming."

"Of course," Kim smiled up at her then walked with Cara upstairs.

"Hi Drew," Cara waved.

Drew rubbed his face and waved back, "Hi."

"Kim said you're getting a baby," Cara walked over.

"Yeah," Drew nodded, "A boy baby."

"I have baby dolls, I'll let you borrow some to practice with," Cara stood in front of Drew's room.

"That's very nice of you," Hailey smiled. She looked to Kim, "Doesn't sound like a bad idea."

Kim nodded, "Just help him get the idea of holding a baby."

"Yeah," Hailey took a deep breath, "Well, want to see what we've got. Drew and I cleared out a lot of the stuff."

"Awesome," Kim walked into the near empty office with Hailey behind her.

"I ordered some Toy Story wallpaper," Hailey said, "I'm just not sure what wall I want it on."

"Like with Buzz and Woody?" Kim asked with a laugh.

"No, no," Drew sighed while walking in, "The blue with clouds!"

"Oh!" Kim nodded quickly, "Okay, yes, that is super cute."

"I like Frozen better," Cara said and sat in the middle of the floor.

"No way, Toy Story is better than Frozen," Drew sat next to her.

Hailey hesitated to move to the boxes and bags from the baby shower, keeping her eyes on Drew and Cara as they quietly debated which movie was better.

"They're okay," Kim shook her head and walked to the gifts, "Don't worry too much."

Hailey sighed, "Fine," she knelt next to the bags, "So, I don't really know what to do. Really, the only furniture item we have is the crib and it's not even put together yet."

"That was really nice of your mom to get that for you guys," Kim said and sat on the floor.

"Yeah, I'm a little surprised my dad let her come," Hailey said while pulling clothes and blankets out of bags.

Kim glanced at her, "Do you mind if I ask?"

"Jay yelled at my dad last week," Hailey breathed so Drew didn't hear.

Kim's eyes widened, "What happened?"

"My dad made some comments that we shouldn't adopt the baby," Hailey said quietly.

"I'm so sorry," Kim touched her arm.

Hailey shook her head, "It's okay. It's my dad – nothing new."

Kim chewed her lip and slowly nodded, "Okay."

Hailey looked around and rubbed her forehead.

"You good?" Kim asked.

"Uh, yeah," Hailey nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine."

"Okay," Kim looked around, "All right, um, maybe we can use paper to mark where the furniture can go?"

"I like that," Hailey smiled, "I'll go get some."

"Let me wipe your chin," Kim laughed and reached across the table toward Cara with a napkin.

Cara giggled, "Was I messy?"

"Very," Drew laughed and licked his popsicle.

Hailey smiled and passed Kim another napkin, "I think you'll need another."

"Thank you," Kim laughed again, "Oh, baby girl, you are sticky."

There was a knock on the front door and Hailey hurried to answer it, "Coming!" She opened the door to see Will standing on the porch with a wrapped box.

"Hey!" he smiled, "Am I interrupting?"

"Not at all," Hailey hugged him as he stepped in, "What're you doing here?"

"Brought a present for the baby," Will said and set it on the steps, "Where's Jay and the little rascal?"

"Is that Uncle Will?" Drew walked to the front of the house with his popsicle.

"Yes it is," Will chuckled and bent down, "Can I have a hug?"

"No," Drew leaned against the stairs.

Hailey gasped, "Drew!"

"I don't want to be touched," Drew shrugged.

"It's okay," Will shook his head and stood, "I understand, bud, sometimes I don't want to be touched either."

"I'm sorry," Hailey said and ran a hand through her hair.

"Really, don't worry about it," Will smiled a little, "Where's Jay?"

"Dad's working," Drew licked his popsicle, "Want one of these? We have orange and grape left."

"He's working?" Will raised his eyebrows and looked at Hailey, "I thought you said you guys were going to work on the nursery."

"Kim came to help," Hailey nodded around the corner to the kitchen.

"Hey Will!" Kim called out.

Will laughed and picked up the gift to walk in the kitchen, "Hey Kim."

"Have you met Cara yet?" Kim asked.

"I don't think so," Will smiled, "Hi Cara, my name's Will."

"He's a doctor and he's really smart," Drew said and sat back down in his chair.

"That's cool," Cara nodded, "I'm not a doctor, I just go to kindergarten."

"Kindergarten? That's awesome," Will sat down at the table.

"What'd you bring?" Drew leaned closer to the box.

"Some gifts for your baby brother," Will smiled.

"Can I please open it, Mom? Please?" Drew batted his eyes at Hailey.

She laughed, "Yes, go ahead."

"You're so lucky," Cara breathed and finished her popsicle.

"I know!" Drew said and set his popsicle stick on the table before tearing into the paper.

Kim bit her lip and glanced to Hailey. Hailey shrugged and shook her head.

"There's a lid," Drew gasped and pulled it off, "Hey look!" he pulled out a baby doctor onesie, "Like you!"

Will laughed, "Think he'll want to be like me?"

"Everyone wants to be smart," Drew nodded and set the onesie to the side, "There's so much stuff." He started pulling out several different first-aid items for the baby, "Wow, look at all this."

"Very on par," Kim nodded.

"You didn't have to," Hailey said softly.

Will shook his head, "It's fine, Hailey. He's my nephew."

"Me too, right?" Drew asked.

"Yeah, you too," Will smiled at him.

"Good," Drew sat back in his chair.

"Oh," Will took his wallet out and looked through it. He passed Hailey a folded piece of paper, "Consider it a gift from my dad."

Hailey raised her eyebrows and unfolded the paper. She breathed shakily, "Will."

"What is it?" Drew pulled on Hailey's arm.

She blinked quickly, "Um, it's money."

"Well, it's a bond," Will explained to Drew, "It's for when your brother goes to college, so he won't be able to get the money until he turns 18."

"So it's like future money?" Drew asked.

"Yeah," Hailey whispered and walked to put the bond in a drawer in the desk.

Kim smiled at Will, "That's really nice."

Will shrugged with a small smile, "I know it's what he would have wanted."

Hailey took a deep breath and rubbed her face.

Kim turned to watch her. She bit her lip and opened her mouth to say something, but Hailey walked back over and set her hand on Drew's back, "Thank you both for helping us out today."

"I didn't do anything," Will chuckled, "But is there anything you need me to do?"

Kim stood, "There's some heavy boxes upstairs that need to be moved, come with me?"

"Uh, sure," Will slipped his jacket off and followed her upstairs.

Hailey filled a glass with water and drank it quickly before grabbing the used popsicle sticks and throwing them out. She leaned against the counter and closed her eyes, listening to Cara and Drew talk about Halloween costumes and if they'll be able to trick-or-treat. She didn't have the energy to reassure them both, so she walked to the bathroom and sat on the closed toilet in the dark to clear her head.

Jay walked in the house and set his keys on the table. The downstairs was quiet and dark, but he noticed the light on upstairs, so he walked up to see the office furniture in the hallway. He smiled a little and walked in the office, "Hails?"

She was laying asleep on the ground next to pieces of the crib. His smile fell and he knelt next to her, "Hailey?" He brushed her hair back and gently lifted her into his lap, "Hey, you okay?"

Hailey blinked her eyes open and yawned, "Wha's going on?"

"You're sleeping in the nursery," Jay chuckled, "Were you putting the crib together?"

Hailey squinted and covered her eyes, nodding.

"Let's get you to bed," Jay said softly and helped her stand.

She stumbled into him and groaned quietly as they walked to their bedroom.

"You okay?" Jay repeated.

"What time is it?" Hailey yawned.

"Only nine," Jay rubbed her back, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Hailey shook her head.

"I'm worried about you," Jay helped her into their bed.

"Don't be," Hailey curled up.

Jay bit his lip, "Hailey," he ran his fingers through her hair, "Look at me."

Hailey turned to face him and blinked a few times.

Jay held her chin and looked in her eyes, "Feeling okay?"

Hailey's lip wavered, "My head hurts so bad."

Jay nodded, "Migraine?"

"I think so," Hailey breathed, "All day."

Jay kissed her forehead, "Have you taken anything?"

"No," Hailey whispered.

"Okay, I'll go get something," Jay straightened up.

"No, wait," Hailey grabbed his arm.

"No?" Jay raised his eyebrows.

"Can you please finish the crib?" Hailey asked quietly, "I want that done."

Jay sighed, "Okay, fine, but I'm going to get you medicine first and then I'll work on the crib."

"Thank you," Hailey closed her eyes.

Jay bit his lip and went in the bathroom to get her a glass of water and the pills. Once he helped her take them, he stayed until the stress and pain seemed to disappear from her face. He stopped rubbing his thumb over her forehead and breathed out as he stood. He wanted to lay in bed with her and hold her, but he knew when she woke up, if she still had the migraine, she'd want the crib done, so that's what he decided to do instead…because if his suspicions were right and the migraine had lasted her whole day, she deserved anything he could give her.

A/N: Kind of a two-part? Maybe? We'll see! I've actually been working on this most of the day and I'm pretty happy because I might work on a one-shot or another chapter tonight. Thank you guys for reading! I super appreciate all your kind words!
