Under My Control
Chapter 28
Sometime Later
The drive to the hotel was quiet. Lucas focused his gaze forward. Gripping tightly on the steering wheel. He was hurt, angry, and felt humiliated for actually believing this was going to happen. Every so often he looked over at Brooke she was silent. He knew that wasn't good. What he was feeling did not compare to her emotions right now.
He would be there for her through this. Be the strong support she needs. Brooke hated being vulnerable especially in front of people she loved and cared for.
Eventually the couple reached the hotel. Lucas parked his car quickly. Brooke leaped out of the car with rage.
He followed her lead as she raced inside. Bypassed the reception desk. And took hard purposeful steps through the hallway.
At some point we reached the front of Sam's hotel room.
Brooke bawled up her fist and knocked on the door multiple times.
"Fuck this." She yelled. Going into the purse getting out the spare keycard and opened the door.
She slammed the door open and looked around room.
I went in after her. Noticing how quiet it seemed it there.
"Sam! I know you and you're mom are in here!"
"Come out right now! We know everything!" Brooke yelled.
Opening the door to the closet and the bathroom and the bedroom only to find them empty.
Brooke was fuming. I took ahold of her hand in mine.
"Their gone Brooke. They must of caught on to something after Levi's visit. We should go. There is no point in wasting anymore time." Lucas said.
"They can't get away with this! It was wrong! They deserve to pay!" Brooke exclaimed. Her voice breaking as she looked away from him.
"I know. I want that for you more then anything. To get peace and closure but i don't believe it's going to happen it can't. Won't. I'm sorry. Brooke come on. Let's go home." Lucas said. Taking her hand in his.
...
Awhile Later
The two went back to the house. It was quiet and empty. Jonah was back at daycare and Jamie was in school.
Brooke let go of Lucas's hand.
"I'm going think. Clear my head." Brooke said.
"Okay i'm going for a run." "I'll bring lunch back." Lucas said.
"Alright i'll see you then." Brooke said. Watching as Lucas left their home.
She took a deep breath and walked up the stairs taking her time. Soon arriving at the nursery. Brooke entered the room and shut the door behind herself.
Brooke stared around at the walls. The furniture and toys. She walked over to the crib and picked up the purple monkey she had as a child. Clutching it tightly.
Her hands traced the letters on the wall. Which spelled out Haley Karen Scott.
Brooke felt to her knees. Wrapped her arms around herself. And cried. Tears fell hard and furiously down her face.
Her heart was broken and she finally allowed herself to feel it.
...
Lucas ran down one of the multiple running trails in the park.
He ran into his lungs burned. His legs ached. Until he had no other choice but to stop.
He cried for the loss of the daughter he loved and now would never have. When he was able to regain his composure he left the park. And attempted to act as if everything was normal when he went to get lunch.
...
When Lucas returned to the home with lunch for himself and Brooke he was surprised to see she was awaiting him.
He could easily tell that she had been crying.
"I can't do this anymore Luke. My heart can't take another break like this. It it wrong and unfair to you. I give up. This is the world telling me i'm not meant to be a mother and i've finally decided to accept it." Brooke proclaimed.
