Chap 26 Inuyasha at the hospital bedside

Date: 2 Dec 2299 Saturday continued.

Inuyasha maintained his vigil at Kyo's bedside, talking to him constantly. The specialist rounded twice daily and nurses maintained constant care, but Kyo remained in a semi-conscious state. Eyes closed he seemed to hear but did not respond. Although Kyo was told to fight he needed frequent reminding. Inuyasha would drift off to a steady beeping only to awaken moments later to an irregular rhythm. Cyclic bouts of high and low blood pressure, along with grimacing and moaning, made Inuyasha's job even harder. Kyo was showing signs of worsening heart failure. Finally Inuyasha changed his tactics. Instead of reminding Kyo of the promise Sesshomaru made, he talked about the lecture he was going to give Yuki when he saw her next. The inuhanyou parent worked up a good mad and marched around the ICU room. As he suspected Kyo came to the rescue of his sister.

"Dad," a raspy voice attempted to get his Dad's attention.

Inuyasha whipped around to stare into the canary yellow eyes of his son.

"Dad, don't be too harsh…" but before he could say any more Inuyasha was smothering him, tears pouring down his cheeks.

"Kyo, don't leave me. I can't lose you," the pregnancy, Suzy's sadness, and lengthy vigil and lack of news from his husband had worn on Inuyasha. Tears flooded from his big round eyes. The light was burning in Kyo's eyes. There was hope. The hanyou held his son tight to his breast allowing the warmth to run back and forth between them.

A soft voice tried to speak. He tapped his dad to loosen his grip.

Loosening his hug enough to make eye contact, Inuyasha allowed a small smile to lift his cheeks.

"Dad, I'm going to drown in your tears," the cheeky comment was followed by a weak but present smirk.

Inuyasha tighten his hug again and whispered, "Deal with it, brat!" But even those words had no bite.
