"Go, Corsola!"
"Venus, let's go!"
"Razor leaf!" Aurora commands.
"Dodge and use ice beam!" Misty counters.
"Dodge the ice beam!" The razor leaf is destroyed by Corsola's ice beam. Venus manages to escape the ice beam too. "Poison powder!"
"Go in the water!" Misty orders.
"Wrap it before it does!" Aurora tells the Ivysaur. Corsola is slow out of water, so she gets tangled in Ivysaur's vines.
"Ice beam the vines!" cries Misty.
"Solarbeam!" The two attacks collide, but the solarbeam melts the ice beam into nothing before hitting the dual rock and water type directly. Corsola instantly faints.
"Return, Corsola! You did great." She smiles at the pokeball. She then looks at Aurora. "I thought I almost had you there."
Aurora smiles back. All the recent training with Dillon paid off. He had informed her of Misty's pokemon and moves to be aware of. "I heard you're a harder gym leader than others!"
Misty smiles and releases a Goldeen. "Dive!"
"Wait for it to come up, and then grab it!" Aurora demands. Venus is waiting on a platform for the Goldeen to pop out of the water.
"Horn attack!" Misty orders. Goldeen pops out behind Venus and hits her hard with the horn attack. Venus falls off the platform and into the water.
"Venus!" Aurora panics. The grass type struggles in the water before being hit with a final horn attack from Goldeen. "Return, Venus! You did great." She tells the pokeball. Aurora then looks at Pachirisu. "Ready?"
"Pachi!" the white mouse's cheeks spark.
"Let's go, Pachirisu!"
"An electric type? Okay." Misty smiles. "Horn attack!"
"Dodge and use thunderbolt!" Since Goldeen is attacking midair, it can't dodge the thunderbolt in time. Pachirisu is a lot faster than it and manages to dodge the horn attack.
"Dive and use horn attack!" Misty orders. Goldeen swims menacingly below.
"Thunderbolt the water!" Aurora orders. Misty grits her teeth.
"Flail!" But it is too late. Pachirisu is too fast and electrocutes the water. Goldeen rises up in a fainted state. Misty returns the white fish and looks at Dillon with a smirk. She then looks back at Aurora. "Before I choose my last pokemon, can you tell me your relationship with that boy over there?" Misty notices Dillon's face pale and Amy laughing hysterically.
Aurora's face pales too. "Uh. I don't think that's relevant to the battle." She says. Misty smiles.
"That boy visits the gym from time to time. I'm sure he told you about my pokemon and my battle moves." She tells Aurora. The girl looks away awkwardly. "It's fine! My battles are not private. I'm just curious."
"Uh. We're friends." Aurora tells Misty.
The woman seems to think to herself before pulling out a pokeball. "I expect great things from friends of Cerulean City." she says as she throws the pokeball.
"Gyara!" the giant blue serpent lands with a splash in the pool.
"What the?! She only uses Gyarados when challengers have more than 5 badges!" Dillon hisses.
"I guess she wants to see how good your girlfriend is." Amy says.
"She's not my girlfriend!"
"Guys." Granite interrupts.
Although shocked by the Gyarados, Aurora stays focused. Gyarados is a lot faster than she thought it'd be. "He's a flying and water type." She thinks to herself. "I've got the advantage." She looks at Pachirisu. "Thunderbolt!"
"Dodge and use hyperbeam!" Gyarados manages to dodge the thunderbolt attack, but gets hurt from the electricity hitting the water. However, its hyperbeam knocks out Pachirisu.
"So strong!" Aurora gasps as she picks Pachirisu up from the water. She brings the unconscious mouse to the sidelines and gives her to Granite.
"Type advantages don't matter." Dillon tells her as she hands Pachirisu over.
"I know." She says quietly before heading back over to the challenger's box.
"We're both down to our last pokemon." Misty states. "And Gyarados is pretty tired from that electricity. But we won't give up!"
"Gyara!" The blue serpent screams.
Dillon clenches his teeth. "Not fair, mom." he thinks to himself.
Aurora takes a deep breath and smiles. "Let's end this, Growlithe!" The orange and black pup emerges from the pokeball and lands on a platform. It growls and glares at the Gyarados.
"A Growlithe, huh?" Misty questions. "Water pulse!"
"Dodge with agility!" Growlithe avoids the attack by jumping on the different platforms leading to Gyarados.
"Surf!" A huge wave forms in the pool and pushes towards Growlithe.
"Jump on Gyarados!" Aurora cries as Growlithe avoids the incoming wave and leaps onto the large blue Gyarados. "Bite!"
"Dive!" Misty orders. As Growlithe chomps down on Gyarados, the serpent takes to the water with the fire pup. Gyarados shoots out of the water as Growlithe falls off its back and lands on the platform. Both pokemon are visibly weakened. Aurora looks on worriedly. It took a lot of effort to reach Gyarados who then almost drowned Growlithe.
"I don't know what to do!" She thinks to herself in a panic.
"Lightfield!" Her self doubt is distracted when she hears Dillon call her. She looks over to the stands. "You're not weak!" He yells angrily. He's standing and his hands are on the railing while his body is leaning over them. Pika is cheering from his perch on the railing. Even Pachirisu is awake and cheering loudly next to Pika. Aurora can't help but smile.
"I know!" She yells back. "You ready, Growlithe?!" She asks the pup. Said pup howls and gets into an aggressive stance.
"Well, this is interesting." Misty smiles. "Gyarados! Finish it with hyperbeam!"
"Let it hit!" Aurora orders Growlithe.
"What?" Misty looks on confused as the hyperbeam gets closer to the Growlithe.
"Now!" Aurora yells as Growlithe dodges the attack and uses agility to get close to Gyarados. "Bite!" The bite attack is enough to knock out the exhausted Gyarados since he had to recharge after the hyperbeam. Misty returns Gyarados as Growlithe runs over to his trainer. Aurora gives him a huge hug. "You did awesome, Growlithe!" she rubs his belly and pets him all over. Pachirisu runs up to them and joins in on the celebration followed by the rest of the spectators. Misty walks over to the group.
"Wow. I never thought someone with 2 badges could defeat Gyarados." She says. Aurora stands up and smiles.
"It was a close battle. I couldn't have defeated you with only two badges, though." She tells the woman. Misty gives her a questioning look.
"I had 4 badges." Aurora smiles while motioning to Granite and Dillon. Misty can't help but smiles. She gives Dillon an approving look, which he of course doesn't understand.
"Okay. Well, now you have 5. Here's the Cascade Badge!" she hands the badge to Aurora who pulls her friends into a group hug.
"Yeah! We did it!" she exclaims.
"Great job, Aurora!" Granite manages to mumble out.
"Let us go, Lightfield!" Dillon follows up with. Aurora lets them go and rubs the back of her head awkwardly.
"Heh heh. Whoops. Sorry guys." She smiles. "Now it's your turn Dilly Boy!" Dillon rolls his eyes at the nickname while Amy laughs quietly to herself. Misty stiffles a giggle as well.
"Okay. Well, I'm ready whenever you are, Dillon." She tells him. He nods and everyone goes to their respective locations.
