Chapter 37: The Cool Cat Curse
"Is it possible that he seriously hasn't figured out about the curse yet?" Asks IHE.
YMS laughs. "It's very possible. I mean look at him, he looks like a complete dumbass!"
Ralphs raises his hand and the two of them stop snickering at once. "While I would love to bully Cool Kid for his stupidity some more, it is unreasonable for us to assume everyone knows about the Cool Cat Curse. Even someone like him."
"The what?" Cool Kid asks while grinding his teeth. Ralphs smiles and pulls out a remote from his robe and turns on the TV behind him.
"It's time you learn Cool Kid about who Cool Cat really is." The TV is on, and a timeline of people is shown. Cool Kid isn't given enough time to comprehend it before Ralphs starts talking again.
"You see Cool Kid, Coo Cat isn't just some strange cool being who lives on Earth. Or some really cool alien. No, he is like me. He is a God."
Cool Kid stares at him flabbergasted. "A...G…"
"That's right Cool Kid, a God. He is a being far above humanity. One who's right it was to rule over them. And yet, he only wanted to help them. He wanted to move the sands of fate in a way it wasn't supposed to! He interfered with you mortals, and changed far too much." IHE and YMS both nod in agreement.
"If it wasn't for him….the world would be the way it's supposed to!" says IHE.
Ralph continues. "Cool Cat left the heavens and went down to Earth. However, he didn't have the power to take on a physical form, so he had to resort to possessing people. So what he ended up doing was possessing those he found great potential in. Those he believed had the ability to change the world, they just needed a little push. He didn't want to control them though, so they still had control of themselves while Cool Cat was in them."
Cool Kid stares at him, he's baffled by what he's saying, but for some reason, it feels true.
"While Cool Cat was in them, these people would climb to great heights, achieve more, and change the world! Some of the people he possessed were Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, Stalin, Teddy Roosevelt, George Washington Carver, Obama, and many many more. However there was a catch. Cool Cat had certain expectations of each person he possessed, he knew what they were capable of and would keep pushing them until they could reach that point. His constant pressure and power had the ability to unlock potential within anybody, but it would also lead to their downfall. Cool Cat's power would lead to a slow deterioration of the brain. If they didn't achieve their greatness that Cool Cat expected, they would go insane. Once their brains were lost, all that was left in them would be Cool Cat, and he would end up possessing their bodies for real until they died. The only ways to remove Cool Cat from oneself would be to either achieve that greatness he expected, or die."
Cool Kid grips the sides of his seat. Kill people!? There's no way Cool Cat would do that!?
"Once one of these two states were achieved, Cool Cat would leave that person and hunt for the next. The transition would take seconds at most. Only a few people have ever been known to fulfill Cool Cat's expectations. One of the ones we really know about is Obama. Either By getting ObamaCare passed in America or being the president that killed Bin Laden. After doing One of those two, Cool Cat was pleased and left his body."
IHE leans over to YMS "I vote for the Bin Laden one, that was cool."
YMS nods. "Same."
"Most however, die. Either because Cool Cat rotted their minds like Stalin near the end of his life,, or because their lives were tragically cut short like Martin Luther King. It's truly a tragedy…." A few moments of silence pass. "Tell me Cool Kid, do you know who was the most recent person Cool Cat chose to possess?"
Cool Kid stares at him while shaking a little, he refuses to say anything. Ralphs smiles.
"The answer is your good friend, Derek Savage." Cool Kid's eyes widen. His body stops shaking and he stares at Ralphs in shock.
"We still don't know why Cool Cat chose him. We suspect Cool Cat wanted Derek to make people aware of Cool Cat and make him an icon. That's our current theory. However, Derek was a totally different beast. Somehow, he figured out Cool Cat had possessed him. With this knowledge, he used that power to create a media empire and make as much profit as possible with the power of Cool Cat. And for a while, this worked splendidly for him. He had amazing books, comics, and even soon to be films about the great Cool Cat, all raking him in cash. But that's when he realized something. You see, he's the one that coined the term Cool Cat Curse. He knew that if he didn't live up to whatever Cool Cat's expectations were, he would die an early death. But instead of embracing death or trying to change himself, he went for a third intriguing option."
He smiles at Cool Kid, giving him a moment to take this all in and then continues.
"Derek didn't know that Cool Cat was a God living inside him, but he knew it was some entity. And using his abilities in the dark arts and intense knowledge, he discovered that one could remove Cool Cat from their body and save themselves from the curse. However, simply removing Cool Cat wouldn't be enough. Cool Cat would simply immediately return. Derek soon discovered that the only way to free himself from Cool Cat was to remove him from himself, and put him in someone else. Then, Cool Cat would be gone. Do you know who he chose?"
Cool Kid stares at him. His entire body is frozen stiff. Ralphs laughs again.
"He was desperate, so he wasn't thinking about his consequences. After filming his first Cool Cat film, there was a little boy there who's love for Cool Cat overshadowed every other kids' there. Derek decided that with that amount of love, that kid would be happy to have Cool Cat's soul within him. So, one day all the way back in 2015, Derek did the unthinkable, and transferred Cool Cat's soul into that child. Cool Cat has never possessed a child before, and its consequences were great. Since the child was so young, less than 10 in fact, he hadn't fully developed his mind or personality. So when Cool Cat possessed him, Cool Cat took over his entire brain. He was no longer that kid, he was now just Cool Cat."
He smiles at Cool Kid, looking for a reaction before continuing.
"Derek was wracked with guilt, and tried everything he could to save the child he had damned. But there was nothing he could do. One can't remove the Cool Cat Curse from another, only from themselves. After years of watching this child grow into the Cool Cat symbol he created, he finally found something that might help. By putting the now young adult in cryo sleep, Cool Cat would be suppressed while he looked for a true cure. However, he wasn't expecting the cry sleep to end so soon, and for that young adult to come into the world once again. You get what I'm saying, don't you, Cool Kid?"
Cool Kid looks up to him, with tears flowing down his eyes. Ralphs smiles and nods.
"That's right. Cool Kid, you are that child. You ARE Cool Cat! You know why you can't remember your parents, your life, or even your real name? It's because Cool Cat erased it from your mind when he possessed you. Now that you're an adult and you've been in cryo sleep for so long, Cool Cat's power is back to being how it is in a normal adult, but you feel it, don't you? You see horrible images when you pass out? You have voices in your head telling you you're not doing good enough and you let people die? People crying out for you to save them? That is Cool Cat, demanding you do more. The only thing you can remember of your pre-Cool Cat life was your love for Cool Cat. That's why you went on this hunt for Cool Cat. It's why you named yourself Cool Kid. You are nothing but a slave to him."
"And you want to know something sad? All of your friends already knew this. Tyrone, FaDoug, he whole police station. Derek told them the situation when you awoke from cryo sleep, and they chose to help you in your desires so they could keep you safe while Derek found a way to save you! Me and my friends intervened and made it real. We never expected we'd be able to control everything, we just wanted to destroy Cool Cat. It's funny how things work out that way!"
He stands up and lightly pats Cool Kid on the head, who is sitting in his chair with tears pouring down his face. His mind is now completely broken. The voices, screaming for them to save them were now louder than ever.
"Don't worry Cool Kid we're going to save you. Just like we did for Dirty Dog. Using my powers, we can separate souls from bodies without killing the bodies. We can even reinsert the souls, making the bodies nearly immortal. I'm sure you've already seen the results when you battled Dirty Dog though, so there's no need for a more complex explanation. Instead we'll just get on with it."
He nods, and YMS runs over to a machine and starts pressing buttons. A device raises down from the ceiling and places itself around Cool Kid's head. Ralphs smiles at Cool Kid, who's not even trying to struggle.
"It's okay Cool Kid, we're going to save you from that monster." He nods at YMS. He presses a button, and the device emits red electricity. The electricity shoots through Cool Kid's head. His entire body shakes in pain and shock.
"Finally...Cool Cat will be dead."
