Chapter 37 - Moving Day

A month later, at around 1 am in the morning, everyone was asleep. Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. This is except for the chick, who was becoming a rooster and was crowing in the sun. Needless to say, it awoke Taylor and Ella, who rushed into their living room, searching for the cause of the racket.

"What the hell is that?! Taylor shouted to Ella. "Is that you?" Ella rolled her eyes and then they both realised who, or rather what, was making the noise.

"Ohhhhhhh!" Taylor snarled and stormed over to Finn and Dalton's apartment.

"Boy, you are really not a morning person," Ella commented.

"BACK OFF!" Taylor pointed at her finger threateningly at her friend and started banging on Finn's door. "Get up! Get up! Get up! God damn it! Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up!"

Finn and Dalton finally opened the door, blurry eyed. Taylor immediately started yelling at them.

"WHAT is that noise?" She shouted.

"YOU!" Dalton snarkily commented.

"It's the chick!" Finn explained. "She's… going through some changes."

"What kind of changes?" Ella asked.

"Well the vet seems to think that she's becoming a rooster. We're getting a second opinion tomorrow." He remarked. Taylor screamed and stormed back into their apartment. Ella followed her friend, laughing. A few hours later, Finn was alone in Taylor's apartment. Taylor was out somewhere, and Ella and Dalton were doing laundry. Suddenly, Taylor walked into the apartment, heaving a shopping bag.

"Hey! What are you doing shopping at 8 in the morning?" He asked, smiling at her mock-innocently. She glared at him.

"Well, I've been up since 6. Thanks to someone's DUMBASS rooster. You guys you really should get rid of those animals. They shouldn't be living in an apartment, especially not with all of these knives and cookbooks around."

Finn's eyes widened. "Wow, that escalated fast!" He cried. Suddenly, Ella and Dalton walked in, holding laundry baskets.

"I'm still right!" Dalton laughed.

"That is sooo not true!" She tried to convince him but failed.

"What's going on?" Taylor asked.

"She's mad because I know today's her laundry day and that means she's wearing her old lady underpants." Dalton said.

"I can check that for ya." Finn grinned. Ella hit him lightly on the shoulder, laughing.

"I just… I can't believe that you think that you and Finn know me and Taylor better than we know you." Ella said.

"Well… we-we do." Finn said. "You can only eat Tic Tacs in even numbers." He said to Ella.

"Yeah, what's that about?" Dalton asked. Finn then turned to his sister.

"And you… Ella, I believe, if you check Taylor's bag, you will find a half-eaten box of cookies in there."

She opened the bag. "You're good." She said. She took a bite of one of the cookies and immediately spat it out. "These, however, are not."

"I'm SO not impressed." Taylor defended herself. "Everybody snacks when they shop."

"Yeah." Ella backed up her friend.

"Oh yeah? Ella, how many items left in that bag?" Dalton asked.

Ella looked in the bag and replied. "Five."

"Okay, ten bucks says that we can name every item in that bag." Finn challenged the ladies.

"How many guesses do you get?" Taylor asked.

"Six." Dalton said.

"Deal!" Ella shook Dalton's hand.

"All right, we'll start with… apples." Dalton said. Ella took out a bag of apples.

"Yes!" Finn exclaimed, high fiving his best friend.

"Okay. Uhh, tortilla chips and yogurt." Dalton continued.

"Diet soda." Finn added.

"Yes. Yes. Yes." Ella reluctantly confirmed. Finn and Dalton were perfect so far.

"Orange juice." Finn suggested.

"No! There's no orange juice in there! We win!" Taylor cried.

"Ha-ha!" Ella exclaimed.

"Woah, woah, woah. Woah. Woah. We do have another guess." Finn said.

"Okay, fine. They probably won't get this anyways."

"Okay, the last thing," Dalton pondered. They both thought for a moment.

"Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh!" Dalton whispered something in Finn's ear. Finn shook his head.

"No-no, not for like another two weeks." Finn said. Taylor rolled her eyes. Suddenly, Finn jumped up.

"I got it! Scotch… tape." The guys knew they had gotten it right as the girls' faces dropped.

"How did you know she would buy scotch tape?" Ella asked her boyfriend. Finn smiled sheepishly.

"Well, we used all of it last night making scary faces." Finn admitted.

"Aww, man!" Taylor slumped her shoulders.

"All right! Ten bucks! Fork it over! Cough it up! Pay the piper! Gimme it." Dalton smirked at the ladies.

"OK, but that does not mean you know us better, I-I want a rematch." Ella said.

"Yeah, and none of these stupid grocery questions, real personal questions." Taylor said.

"Yeah! And the winner gets ten thousand bucks." Taylor added on. Finn and Dalton's faces dropped.

"You serious?" Dalton asked.

"Yeah, are you scared?" Ella had successfully gotten a rise out of Dalton.

"No! All right, who-who makes up the questions?" Dalton asked.

"Well, I can call up someone who doesn't have much of a social life to be the unbiased host. We'll write down our own questions and the host will read them, and make sure they are suitable for the competition. Lemme call him now." Finn said.

5 minutes later, Jahmene stood at the front of the apartment, facing them. He had arrived in New York two days before, as he had gotten a job as a judge on the Voice.

"Okay, each team will answer ten questions. The first team that answers the most questions wins. Okay, the categories are, Fears and Pet Peeves, Ancient History, Literature, and It's All Relative. Now, the coin toss to see who goes first."

Jahmene was a very dramatic person, so was a great host for their competition. He flipped the coin and it landed, without anyone calling it in the air. Jahmene rolled his eyes.

"Okay, somebody call it this time." He reminded them.

"Oh yeah!" they all laughed. Jahmene flipped the coin and Taylor called it.

"Tails!"

"It's heads." Jahmene announced and Finn and Dalton celebrated. "Gentlemen, pick your category."

"Fears and Pet Peeves." Finn said.

"What is Ella's biggest pet peeve?

"Animals dressed as humans." Dalton responded immediately

"That's correct. Ladies?"

"Same category!" Ella shouted.

"According to Dalton, what phenomenon scares the bejeezus out of him?"

"Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance!" Taylor cried.

"That is correct." Jahmene nodded. Finn turned to his friend in disbelief.

"The Irish gig guy?!"

"His legs flail about as if independent of his body!" Dalton cried. Finn rolled his eyes.

"Gentlemen, you're pick." Jahmene turned back to the guys.

"It's All Relative." Finn chose.

"Ella has a grandmother who died. You both went to her funeral last month, name that grandmother!"

"Nana?" Dalton suggested privately to Finn. Finn slapped Dalton on the upside of the head.

"She has a real name." Finn stated. Ummmm… Althea!" He randomly shouted.

"Althea?! What are you doing?!" Dalton cried.

"I took a shot. You got a better suggestion?"

"You're shooting with Althea?!"

"Althea is correct." Jahmene said. The guys cheered and hugged each other.

"Nice shooting!" Dalton said to his friend.

"OK, Ladies. Your turn?"

"We'll take Literature!" Ella said.

"Every month, the Sports Illustrated magazine comes to Finn and Dalton's apartment. What name appears on the address label?"

"Finn gets it! It's Finn Hudson!" Ella shouted. Taylor knew her friend had made a mistake.

"No!" She shouted. Jahmene shook his head.

"I'm afraid it comes to Finessa Hudgens."

"I knew that! Ella! Use your head!" She told her friend.

"Actually, it's Mrs. Finessa Hudgens." Finn admitted.

5 Minutes Later

Jahmene approached the ladies. "All right, the score is nine to eight, in favor of the guys. Ladies, if you miss this, the game is theirs. Pick your category."

"It's All Relative!" Taylor shouted.

"You don't have to shout everything." Jahmene stated.

"I'm sorry!" Taylor yelled, still not lowering her voice.

"Okay. What is the name of Dalton's father's Jamaican all-male burlesque?"

"Viva Las Gaygas!" Ella declared.

"Unfortunately that is correct." Dalton muttered. The girls jumped up and down in celebration.

"All right, we have a tie. Luckily, I have prepared for such an event." Jahmene opened up an envelope and held up some note cards. The Lightning Round!

"Ohhhh…" The competitors all gasped.

"Thirty seconds, all the questions you can answer." Jahmene explained.

"You guys are dead, I am SO good at lightning rounds." Taylor exclaimed.

"Oh yeah? Well, I majored in lightning rounds. We're gonna destroy you." Dalton stepped up.

"Huh, wanna bet?" Taylor asked.

"Well, Now I'm so confused as to what we've been doing so far…" Finn remarked.

"How about we play for more money, say 15,000?" Taylor challenged.

"Say 20000?" Dalton raised the bar.

"Taylor, I don't want to lose 20000 dollars." Ella quietly told her friend.

"We won't." Taylor replied, confidently. "30000?"

"Taylor?!" Ella cried.

"I'm just trying to spice it up!" Taylor declared.

"Okay, so let's play for some cumin! Stop spending my money!" Ella said.

"I got it! How about, if we win, they have to get rid of the rooster?" Taylor suggested.

"Oooohh that's interesting." Ella said. Finn and Dalton jumped up.

"Hey, no way, that rooster's family!" Dalton cried.

"Throw in the duck too!" Ella said.

"What do you have against the duck?! He doesn't make any noise!" Dalton said, defensively.

"Well, he gets the other one all riled up." Ella remarked.

"Look, we are not gonna…" Dalton started but Finn cut him off.

"All right, hold on! If you win, we give up the birds." He said.

"Dah!" Dalton cried, shocked. Finn gestured for him to calm down.

"But… if we win… we get your apartment." He finished. Dalton's face lit up.

"Oooooh!" he exclaimed.

"Deal!" Taylor shouted.

"Give us a second, okay?" Ella said and dragged her friend away.

"Taylor, betting the apartment, I don't know about this."

"Ella, I have not missed one question the whole game. I own this game! Look at my hand." She held out her hand. Ella's face lit up.

"Why? Do you have the answers written on there?" She asked, excitedly.

"No! Steady as a rock! Now, are you with me?" She shouted.

"All right, let's do it." Ella agreed.

"Come on!" Taylor hyped her friend up and dragged her back into the living room.

"All right, gentlemen, you're up first." Jahmene said. Both Finn and Dalton stood up.

"Okay." Finn said.

"Okay." Dalton said, jumping around.

"You have 30 seconds. And the lightning round begins— stop jumping! (Dalton stopped jumping)—now. What was Monica's nickname when she was a field hockey goalie?

"Big fat goalie." Finn shouted.

"Correct. Ella claims this is her favorite movie…"

"Dangerous Liaisons." Dalton said.

"Correct. Her actual favorite movie is…"

"Weekend at Bernie's."

"Correct!" Ella scowled at them. "In what part of her body did Taylor get a pencil stuck at age 14?"

"Oh!" Dalton said, and he whispered something in Finn's ear and then Jahmene's ear.

"Eww! No! Her ear!" Taylor now was the one scowling, and Ella was laughing at them.

"All right," Jahmene continued. "Taylor categorizes her towels. How many categories are there?"

Finn and Dalton conferred and started to count to themselves.

"Everyday use." Dalton said.

"Fancy." Finn added.

"Guest." Dalton bounced back.

"Fancy guest."

"Two seconds…" Jahmene called out.

"Uhh, 11!" Dalton shouted.

"11, unbelievable 11 is correct." Jahmene smiled and the guys celebrated. They jumped on each other and screamed. "All right, that's 4 for the guys. Ladies, you're up."

"All right!" Ella shouted.

"Come on!" Taylor yelled.

"30 seconds on the clock. 5 questions wins the game. The lightning round begins…now!" Jahmene declared. "What is Finn's favorite food?"

"Burgers!" Taylor answered.

"Correct. Dalton was how old when he first touched a girl's breast?"

"14?" Ella tried

"No, 19." Jahmene responded.

Finn gave his friend a sympathetic hug.

"Dalton had an imaginary childhood friend. His name was?"

"Maurice." Taylor cried.

"Correct, his profession was?"

"Space cowboy!" Ella shouted.

"Correct! How old is Dalton?" The girls' hearts dropped. They looked at each other in panic.

"Oh gosh, How do we not know this?" Taylor shouted.

"When did he graduate college?" Ella suggested

"He didn't go to college!" Taylor cried, desperately.

"10 seconds, you need this or you lose the game." Jahmene reminded them.

"Ummm… 20? No, 24? No 27?"

Jahmene stopped the clock, signalling the end of the lightning round. Taylor and Ella's faces dropped.

"NOOOOOOOOO!" Taylor cried.

"Oh my God." Ella whispered.

Finn and Dalton leapt up. "YESSSSSSSS!" They cried, hugging each other.
