Nicole and John had been together for a year today. They both had never been so happy in a relationship. Three months ago John had moved in with Nicole to her home in Chicago. It was early in the morning. Nicole was standing at the stove making breakfast. She felt John's arms wrap around her waist.
"Good morning." He said.
"Good morning sweetie."
"Happy anniversary.
She looked at him and smiled. "Happy anniversary." They kissed.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
A few hours later Nicole was in her studio painting. John came in holding his cell phone.
"John wants to tell us happy anniversary." He said. He went over to her. She saw John T. on the screen.
"Hi John." She said.
"Hi mom." John T. said. "Happy anniversary."
"Thank you."
"We didn't know if you would remember." John said.
"Of course I remember." John T. said. "Most people say it's their parents twentith or thirtieth anniversary." "Not most people can say they were around for their parents first anniversary, probably because they weren't born or even thought of yet, but I can." "I hope you guys have a great day and I love you both."
"We love you too." Nicole said.
Later that night John sent Nicole a text asking Nicole to meet him at her gallery at nine o'clock. When she got there she didn't see any lights on inside but John's car was in the parking lot. She went inside.
"Sweetie." She called. She saw a single burning candle and went over to it. There was a note. She picked it up. It read.
Turn on the lights.
When she turned on the lights she saw John down on one knee. He was dressed in very nice clothes. She smiled and went over to him. He held out the ring box.
"Nicole I've been in love with you from the moment I you." John said. "In twenty-five years I never stopped." "Will you marry me?"
She bent down and kissed him. "Yes." She said happily. "I love you."
"I love you too."
