Drew yawned as he woke up and rolled to his side to look at the clock. It was weird that his mom didn't wake him up yet. He blinked a few times before gasping, "Darn it."

He threw his blankets off of him and ran down the hall, "Mom!"

Drew pushed open his mom and dad's door, but they weren't in bed; instead, he could hear talking in their bathroom. He bit his lip and slowly walked to that barely open door.

"I-I might throw up again."

"Okay, that's fine."

Drew peaked through the crack and saw his dad lift his mom from the edge of the tub where her feet were in the water and sit with her next to the toilet.

"Not too fast, not too fast," his mom said.

"I'm sorry," his dad whispered.

In a minute, his mom coughed and threw up into the toilet. She started crying, "It hurts so bad. This isn't helping."

Drew stumbled backwards. His mom was really sick. Her insides were falling out of her mouth and that certainly was not good.

He saw his dad's cellphone on the nightstand and quickly grabbed it. Once he watched his dad put in the password, so that wasn't a problem. He opened the phone app and scrolled through all the names. There wasn't an Uncle Will or even a Doctor Will, but there was a Will Halstead, so that was probably the right person. He clicked his name and walked back to his bedroom to wait.

"It's my day off, what's going on?" Uncle Will mumbled.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Drew said, "I thought you could help me."

"Drew?" Uncle Will asked, "Buddy?"

"Yeah," Drew sat on his bed, "Are you busy?"

"No," Drew could hear Uncle Will making a lot of noise, "Drew, what happened?"

"My mom's really sick," Drew bit his lip, "I don't know what's wrong, but she's crying and I saw her puke. She said she's really hurt and whatever my dad's doing isn't working. You have to come save her."

Uncle Will took a deep breath, "Okay, I'll be right there."

"Please hurry," Drew nodded, "I'm really scared."

"All right, bud, I'll be there in about ten minutes. Are you ready for school?" Uncle Will asked.

"No, but I don't think I should go today if my mom's sick," Drew said, "I might be sick too."

"I'll check you out when I get there, but for now, just get dressed and brush your teeth, okay?" Uncle Will replied.

"Okay," Drew sighed and hung up the phone. He set it on his dresser before picking up the outfit his mom had set out for him last night and going to change in the bathroom.

"Let's try the hot water on your feet again," Jay whispered to Hailey.

Hailey groaned and didn't fight him as he lifted her up and set her back on the edge of the tub.

Jay turned the hot water back on to heat everything up again and set the cold washcloth on the back of Hailey's neck, "There you go," he breathed and massaged his fingers over the back of her head.

Hailey bit her lip to fight back tears. Crying never helped her migraines, but the pain was so bad, she couldn't help it.

Jay always sat with her though – whether it be in the dark on her bed or on the tile floor of the bathroom – he was always there. Unfortunately, they couldn't figure out a good trick to end her migraines like they'd found to end his panic attacks.

Hailey leaned against Jay's side and breathed him in, "Thanks for not wearing cologne."

Jay chuckled, "I'm in my pajamas."

"Thank you," Hailey mumbled.

Jay held back a laugh and kissed the top of her head, "Anything for you."

Hailey took several deep breaths and closed her eyes, doing her best to try to relax. Jay held her close and continued running his fingers through her hair.

"Pull the bottom," Hailey whispered.

Jay bit his lip, never liking when he asked her to do that, "Are you sure?"

"Please," Hailey begged, "It usually helps."

Jay quietly sighed and gently tugged at the hair on the back of her neck.

Hailey groaned in appreciation, "Thank you."

"You're welcome," Jay said softly.

That sat in silence until Jay heard the front door open. His eyes widened and he straightened up, "Hailey."

"Ow, don't do that," Hailey whimpered.

There were quick footsteps on the stairs and Jay jumped up, knocked Hailey off the edge of the tub, and ran out of the bathroom, "Drew!"

"What?"

Jay leaned over the stairs to see Drew and Will standing at the front door. He caught his breath, "W-What's happening?"

"Drew called and said Hailey's sick," Will explained.

"Come on, she's in her bathroom," Drew grabbed Will's hand and led him upstairs.

Jay stared at them, "What? How?"

"I used your phone," Drew said, "Let's go, Uncle Will! Mom needs you."

Jay watched them walk down the hall and whispered, "What the hell is happening?" before following them into the bedroom.

Hailey was stumbling out of the bathroom when they entered, "Jay?"

Drew flicked the lights on, "Uncle Will's here, Mom."

Hailey gasped and covered her eyes, "Turn it off."

Will quickly did as she said, "Sorry."

"What's going on?" Hailey peeked out from behind her hand.

"I'd like to know that too," Jay walked to Hailey and helped her onto the bed.

"No one woke me up for school," Drew climbed on the bed and patted Hailey's arm, "So I came in here to make sure you were alive and you were throwing up and crying. Then I called Uncle Will and told him he needed to come help you because Dad couldn't."

"That was about ten or fifteen minutes ago," Will nodded.

"It's just a migraine," Jay explained.

"Just a migraine?" Hailey shot out, "I never remember you having one. You don't understand how goddamn painful this is," she sniffled and her eyes started watering, "I c-can barely take this, J-Jay."

"I'm sorry," Jay whispered and hugged her to his side, "I didn't mean it like that."

Drew's eyes were wide as he stared at Hailey. He turned to Will, "You need to help my mom. She swore."

Hailey sighed and wiped her face, "Drew, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to swear. My head just hurts really really bad."

Will knelt in front of her, "How long has this been going on for?"

"It was pretty bad last night and just felt worse this morning," Hailey said quietly.

Will nodded, "Have you taken anything?"

"Two Excedrin last night, but I've thrown up twice since then," Hailey leaned into Jay's side.

"This sounds like a horrible disease," Drew shook his head.

"I'll take you to the ED," Will stood and put his hand out, "I can get you started on an IV for dehydration and get some medicine into you."

"I've never done that before," Hailey argued.

"I think you should go with him," Jay rubbed her back, "I'll take Drew to school then meet up with you."

"I'm getting scared," Drew said.

"Nothing to be scared about," Will shook his head and helped Hailey stand, "I've got you."

"I'm coming, just let me get my shoes," Drew ran out of the room.

Jay bit his lip, "I'll go talk to him." He followed Drew down the stairs and squatted next to him on the floor, "Bud, you don't have to put your shoes on."

"Yeah I do," Drew passed Jay his shoes, "Mom's going to the ED…whatever that is."

Jay chuckled, "The Emergency Department, it's where Uncle Will works and where you were that one time."

"Oh that was scary," Drew shook his head, "We are going."

"No," Jay set his hand on Drew's foot, "Bud, you're going to go to school. Let's go get you some breakfast. How do you feel about some Eggo waffles?"

"I don't feel good about that," Drew pushed Jay's hand away, "I'm going with Mom."

"Sweetheart, you need to go to school," Hailey said as she got to the bottom step, "Nothing interesting's going to happen anyways. I'll probably just sleep."

"But I'll hold you hand," Drew stood.

Hailey smiled a little, "Thank you, but I'll be okay."

Drew took a deep breath, "I-I," he scratched his arms, "I'm nervous."

"I will take good care of her," Will said and ran a hand over Drew's hair.

"No, don't," Drew flinched away, "I – no one touch me."

"Bud," Jay bent down to look him in the eyes, "There is nothing to be scared of."

Drew bit his lip, "Dad, we need to be with Mom."

"I know," Jay nodded, "And I promise to go see her as soon as I drop you off at school."

Drew shook his head and covered his face.

Jay helped Hailey into her coat and she said softly, "Drew, I love you."

"I love you too," he sniffled and walked to the kitchen.

Jay sighed and kissed Hailey's forehead, "I'll see you soon. I love you," he looked to Will, "Take care of her."

Will chuckled, "I will."

Hailey squeezed Jay's hand, "Take care of him."

Jay nodded and watched them leave before going in the kitchen and pulling out the toaster, "So Eggos?"

"How could you just let her go?" Drew yelled.

Jay turned and raised his eyebrows, "Drew, she needs to go get help. This way Uncle Will can help her out and I can take you to school."

"Don't you think she's scared?" Drew asked.

Jay walked over and sat next to him, "I think she wants help. Bud, I'm scared too, but I know she's in good hands."

"It's not fair that you get to see her and I have to go to school like a nerd," Drew put his head on the table.

Jay closed his eyes and tried not to laugh, "Drew," he shakily took a breath, "Drew…you…you're not a nerd for going to school," he covered his mouth with one hand and set his other on Drew's back.

Drew groaned quietly and kicked his legs, "Can we buy her flowers again then?" He looked up and set his chin on the table.

Jay chuckled, "Yes we can. We'll pick some up after you go to school, okay?"

"Is this a compromise?" Drew sighed.

"Yes," Jay nodded.

"Compromises are stupid," Drew mumbled.

"Don't say stupid," Jay stood.

"Mom swore today," Drew pointed out.

"She's an adult and she's in pain," Jay took the waffles out of the freezer.

"Whatever," Drew set his head back on the table.

Jay looked in Hailey's dark ED room and smiled before stepping in, "Hey," he whispered.

Hailey's head rolled to look at him and she laughed softly, "You look like my husband."

Jay laughed and sat next to her bed, "I am your husband."

"Jay Halstead?" Hailey asked, her eyes drooping.

"In the flesh," Jay took her hand, grateful Will had placed her IV in the hand not by the chair.

"Feel good," Hailey mumbled, "Feel so good."

Jay smiled and kissed her hand, "I'm glad. Looks like Will got you on some strong stuff."

"Will's name is Halstead too, just like ours," Hailey said.

Jay chuckled and glanced to the IV bag, not like he knew what he was looking but just to acknowledge that it was making his wife high as a kite, "Yeah, he's Will Halstead. My older brother. How's your head?"

"I've got blonde hair," Hailey slurred.

Jay nodded, "It's very pretty."

"You're pretty," Hailey giggled.

Jay kissed her nose, "Thank you."

"Wha' you think of this?" Hailey gestured to the room, "Sucky, huh?"

"Yeah," Jay whispered, "Really sucky."

Hailey breathed out slowly and laid her head back. She lazily blinked at the ceiling and groaned softly, "I was so stressed."

Jay's face fell and he raised his eyebrows, "You were?"

"So stressed," Hailey repeated, "So my brain," she made fireworks with her hands, "Poof."

"Hailey," Jay said softly and set his free hand on the top of her head. He rubbed his thumb over her forehead, "Talk to me about it."

She turned her head to look at him, "Too stressed, Jay. Another lady is giving birth to a baby and we might get to keep him," her eyes fluttered close, "Key word…might."

Jay kissed her nose, "It's scary, but-"

"And Drew," Hailey sighed, "Drew hurt Kim's girl. He has an IEP…Individualized Education Plan…IEP."

Jay bit his lip and leaned back, "Hailey-"

"I love him so much," Hailey whimpered, "I want to protect him. It scares me."

"I know," Jay whispered and squeezed her hand.

"And you," Hailey breathed, "You are my life. My forever. My soul mate," her head lolled to the other side and she groaned again, "But I worry about you every day…every day of my life. You're so important to me."

Jay swallowed and ran his hand over her hair, "I'm so sorry."

"Everything good?" Will whispered and walked in.

Jay looked up at him and slightly nodded, "She – uh – she seems kind of out of it."

"Yeah, I put her on a pretty strong cocktail," Will chuckled and looked at the monitor, "Hailey, how're you feeling?"

She blinked her eyes at him and breathed out, "Fi-go-grea-tastic."

Will nodded, "I'm glad to hear that. Once this bag's done, I'll definitely take you off some for your next batch."

"Wha'ever you say, doctor," Hailey pulled at the blanket.

"Are you cold?" Jay asked softly.

Hailey looked at him, "No, I'm Hailey."

"I'll get her another blanket," Will laughed and left the room.

Jay smiled a little and rubbed her arm, "Just relax, baby. Close your eyes."

"My brain is shrinking," Hailey whispered, "It feels good."

"Awesome," Jay kissed her forehead.

"Stay here," Hailey breathed.

"I will always stay with you," Jay whispered against her skin, "Always."

Hailey reached over and gripped Jay's shirt as her breathing evened out and she slowly fell asleep just as Will walked in carrying a blanket.

Jay glanced up, "Thanks."

Will spotted Hailey's hold on Jay and laid the blanket over her, "How're you holding up? You haven't looked at her IV, right?"

Jay rolled his eyes, "I'm fine."

Will held his hands up, "Sorry."

Jay sighed, "I'm sorry. This…she said she was stressed."

Will nodded and rolled a stool over to sit on Hailey's other side, "I had a feeling last night when I saw her. It's probably what triggered this, especially if it's been growing for a while."

"I feel like the worst husband," Jay breathed and rubbed his face, "I had no idea. I mean, I knew she was stressed – obviously – but stressed to the point of migraine? No way."

"When's the last time she even had a migraine like this?" Will asked.

"Oh, never like this," Jay shook his head, "She's never been admitted for one. Uh," he scratched his chin, "I think she had a small one before Drew came to live with us, but she called it a bad headache and slept it off. Last time she threw up from one was…maybe last year? I can't remember, I'm sorry."

"Don't be," Will said, "It's okay, a year's a good length of time to not throw up from a migraine."

Jay rubbed Hailey's hand between his two, "She said I'm one of the reasons she's stressed."

"You can't blame yourself," Will slid over to look at the monitors again.

"I will always blame myself for her getting hurt," Jay breathed.

Will glanced at him, "It's a migraine-"

"That I caused," Jay snapped.

Hailey stirred in her sleep at his voice.

Jay relaxed and stroked his thumb down her nose, "Shh, shh."

"No offense, but you're not the center of the world," Will said, "There are other things that could have caused this."

"Yeah, the kids," Jay sighed and held up Hailey's hand to prop his head against it.

Will shook his head, "Stress-wise, there's work, but migraines can be genetic too, Jay."

Jay closed his eyes, "I hate that she's here."

"She'll be better soon, promise," Will walked over and squeezed Jay's shoulder, "Honestly, she'll probably be out of here before Drew's even out of school."

"Okay," Jay whispered and brushed Hailey's hair back from her face.

"I'll be back in a few to change out her IV," Will said before leaving.

Jay swallowed and watched Will close the door. He took a deep breath and turned back to Hailey sleeping, glad to finally see her more relaxed than he could remember in the last few days…maybe even weeks.

Jay kept looking back at where his car was parked and tapped his foot against the ground as he waited for Drew to come out of the school.

"Glad she's okay," Adam lightly hit Jay's shoulder and took Cara's hand, "Let us know if you need anything."

Jay nodded and rubbed his chin.

"Bye Mr. Jay," Cara waved.

He smiled slightly, "Bye Cara."

"I mean it," Adam said as they walked away, "Call me."

"Yeah," Jay breathed with a nod of his head. He turned back to the steady stream of kids coming out of the building and stood in time to see Drew shoving people out of his way until he crashed into Jay's legs.

"Let's go," Drew panted.

Jay raised his eyebrows and held his hand out toward the other kids, "Why did you push people?"

"No, don't punish me," Drew shook his head fast, "Please! It wasn't from being mean! Dad!" His eyes watered and he tugged Jay's hand.

"Hey, hey," Jay squatted down, "I know you weren't being mean, but there was no reason to push all those people."

"Don't punish me more," Drew breathed shakily.

"I'm not," Jay pulled Drew against him, "It's okay."

Drew waited a minute before stepping back and hastily wiped his eyes, "We need to go see Mom."

Jay held back a smile and rubbed his thumb over Drew's cheek, "Let's go."

Drew held Jay's hand and walked with him to the car.

They were about ten feet away from the truck when the passenger door opened and Hailey shakily stepped out.

"Mom!" Drew yelled and ran to her. He hugged her around the waist tightly, "You're safe."

Hailey smiled and rubbed Drew's back, "Hi sweetheart."

"Are you okay?" Drew asked, looking up at her.

Hailey nodded, "A little shaky, but I'm all right."

"I worked super hard today and don't have any homework, so I have so much time to take care of you," Drew said, "Let me help you get in the car."

Jay chuckled, "I can do that, how about you get in your seat?"

"Are you sure?" Drew asked, "I'm strong, Dad."

"I'm just a little stronger," Jay nodded and opened Drew's door, "Hope in."

"Whatever you say," Drew sighed and tossed his backpack in the truck before climbing in himself.

"You okay?" Jay whispered to Hailey.

"Yeah," Hailey nodded.

"Dad, what's happening?" Drew leaned between the front seats.

"Nothing," Jay said and steadied Hailey as she stepped up into the truck.

"Buckle her in," Drew said.

Hailey laughed softly, "You're being such a big help."

"Just taking care of you," Drew touched her hair then sat back in his seat.

"Here you go," Jay leaned over her and buckled her seatbelt in.

"Thank you," Hailey breathed and set a hand on the back of Jay's head.

"You're welcome," Jay kissed her cheek before stepping back and closing the door.

Drew set the book on the coffee table, "Did you like that one?"

"I loved it," Hailey smiled.

Drew sat up on his knees, "I'm a decent reader."

"You're more than decent," Hailey said, "You blow me away."

Drew blushed, "Thank you."

Hailey rested her head back on the couch and closed her eyes.

Drew studied her and breathed shakily, "Mom?"

"Hmm?" Hailey hummed.

"Did you still want to go on a date with me on Friday?" Drew asked quietly, "Because I'm okay if you don't want to. You need to be healthy."

Hailey sat up, "Sweetheart, I completely want to still go on our date. I'm very excited for the dance."

"Will you be healthy again?" Drew chewed his lip.

Hailey nodded, "I will be."

"Good," Drew hugged her tightly.

Hailey smiled and rubbed his back, "I love you."

"I love you too," Drew said.

Jay walked in the living room and smiled, "I have dinner."

Drew pulled back and his eyes widened, "What're you doing?"

Jay placed the plates of pancakes on the coffee table then set up three TV trays, "We're going to eat in here tonight?"

"Oh," Drew played with his fingers, "I don't know, Dad."

"Is something wrong?" Hailey asked softly and set her hand on Drew's back.

"We need to eat dinner at the kitchen table," Drew glanced to the kitchen.

"We don't have to," Jay said and went back to the kitchen to grab Drew's milk and water for him and Hailey.

Drew chewed his lip, "Are you sure?"

"Positive," Jay set the drinks down.

Hailey grabbed her water bottle, "Thank you."

Jay nodded and sat in the recliner.

Drew slowly ate, every once in a while scratching his arm.

Hailey watched him and took a deep breath.

Jay cleared his throat a couple times until she looked at him. 'You okay?' he mouthed.

She nodded and rubbed her forehead.

Jay bit his lip and took another bite of pancake.

Hailey straightened from tucking Drew into bed and whispered, "I love you."

"I love you too," Drew rubbed his eyes.

Hailey smiled and walked out, shutting the door behind her. She sighed and walked into her room looking forward to laying in bed under all her blankets, but was shocked to see Jay had lit a ton of vanilla candles around their room and was waiting on their bed.

"Hi," he whispered.

Hailey weakly laughed, "What's going on?"

Jay walked over to her and took her hand, "I don't know if you remember our conversation – which admittedly is a very weak word – from earlier in the hospital, but you said you were really stressed the past few days."

Hailey's eyes widened, "Jay, I-"

"Shh," Jay pulled her against his chest and looked in her eyes, "It's okay. I should have noticed it sooner and I'm so sorry."

"Don't be," Hailey shook her head, "It was my fault."

"It's not," Jay brushed her hair back, "I want to use this as a wake up call, though, and help you relax more."

Hailey smiled a little, "I want to help you too."

"Then help me by letting me help you," Jay slid his hand down her side, "Please."

Hailey closed her eyes and nodded.

Jay took her hand and led her into the bathroom where there were more candles lit and a bubble bath drawn.

Hailey weakly laughed, "Jay."

"Will said no to alcohol for the day, but I mixed some of your sprite with Drew's Hi-C, so I hope that's okay," Jay gently tugged at her shirt and waited for her to lift her arms before pulling it off, "I also brought a couple chocolate bars."

Hailey's smile widened, "You're incredible."

"Anything for you," Jay kissed her forehead and helped her out of her pants.

Hailey shivered and pressed herself briefly against Jay before stepping into the bath and groaning softly while sinking into the water, "This feels amazing."

Jay knelt next to the tub and ran his hand over her hair, "Want to be alone?"

Hailey blinked her eyes open, "I want you to stay."

Jay smiled, "Perfect."

A/N: Oh gosh, I had no idea when to stop this one and it ended up being pretty long, but I like it and I hope you do too! I hope you have a great day!
